English as a Lingua Franca in IT Advertising Campaigns

Ve 21. století můžeme s jistotou hovořit o významném počtu lidí, kteří používají angličtinu, ať už v každodenní komunikaci, nebo se ji intenzivně učí. Angličtina se stala světovým jazykem vědy, techniky, vzdělávání a podnikání a jako hlavní komunikační nastroj obdržela status Lingua Franca (ELF). Anglický jazyk využívají představitelé různých kultur, a proto se angličtina vyvinula na úroveň nadnárodního jazyka, který propojil vlastnosti různých jazyků a kultur. Ačkoli je výzkum v oblasti ELF stále ještě v počáteční fázi vývoje, pokusím se v této semestrální práci o identifikaci jeho specifických rysů, a to v reklamních kampaních v IT sektoru s využitím tiskových zpráv od předních světových IT společností.

S rostoucím množstvím globálních kulturních modelů se problém jazyka v mezikulturní komunikaci stává stále významnější. Tato bakalařská práce poskytuje přehled některých jazyků a jejich užití rodilými mluvčími, přičemž definuje vliv mateřských jazyků. Práce pojednává také o kultuře a jejich definicích, zatímco popisuje kulturní modely, zejména Lewisův model a Trompenaarsův model. Teorie je následně aplikována na subjekty této práce, a to Anglie a Japonsko.
Multilingualism and interculturality in international or interregional projects and work environments

Mastering communication is the key to successful project management. While stressing the importance of communication within any working team has become a commonplace, the latter seems often helpless when it comes to implementing this principle on-site. In addition, there an ongoing requirement for pre-existing communication management methods to be continuously adapted to ever-changing work environments. First of all, in today's globalized society, the frequencies of intercultural interactions have dramatically increased and international teams have become mainstream within the workplaces. Therefore, interculturalism is nowadays a core issue in internal communication as well as a challenge for the coworkers' cooperation and productivity. Furthermore, in the digital age, information and communication technologies (ICT) are introducing new opportunity for extending the scope of cooperation beyond borders so that interregional projects rely increasingly often on remote teams. However, the virtual space transforms the interaction modes between the individuals and, unlike in a physical space, tailored strategies regarding the communication is necessary to ensure group cohesion. The following research focuses on a case study of the communication management within an international remote team. This case offers a point of departure to analyze cross-effects of both interculturality and virtuality on the communicative effectiveness between the working partners as well as their overall impacts on the project progress. Besides, the given team proves to have little knowledge in basic communication management, hence this case study aims to evaluate the different aspects of the project management process that could be affected by the lack of an appropriate communication strategy. Then, the results of the data analysis will be confronted with the scientific literature in an attempt to find some problem-solving communication management practices that would especially applies to intercultural and virtual working teams.

Culture of an international company

Working life of most individuals is carried on in organizations. Every organization creates its own corporate culture, that is influenced by external environment and its culture. This thesis is focused on theoretical hypothesis of this subject and their comparison with several real life experiences. It describes corporate culture and its impact on shared values, norms, symbols and artefacts. It concentrates on international companies, where members of different national cultures have to cooperate, and it considers the importance of good preparation and awareness of possible differences as factores, that enable realization of own ethnocentrism, which can subsequently reduce culture shock, caused by different approach to time, space, and especially to communication. The paper focuses on french ethnocentric companies, coming to the Czech republic after 1989 and keeping deliberately french management. Those managers, representatives of the french national culture, are confronted with the local czech culture. The thesis presents results of selected researches with their experience with czech employees. Business in Russia: legal and business culture environment

The thesis discusses the fundamental differences between the legal systems of Russia and Czech Republic, the legal forms of business and process of establishing companies in Russia. The work also deals with the characteristics of the legal consciousness of Russians and Russian mentality traits that affect business communications. There are discussed not only the basic cultural dimensions but also the latest trends in the development of Russian business culture. The key to a successful business in Russia is willingness to solve problems, not only through formal (e.g. law enforcement), but also informal way - through personal relationships. In comparison with the Czech character the Russian one is distinguished by greater openness and emotionality, including readiness to open conflict, and greater interpenetration of personal and professional relationships. Establishment of a company in Russia is much simpler and cheaper than in Czech Republic.
Use of coaching in hotel chains management

Coaching has become a phenomenon of the 21st century. It is considered to be one of the most effective methods of personal and corporate development and the way of communication. When participating in management style, coaching tends to strengthen responsibility, creativity, motivation and power to overcome internal and external barriers obstructing staff improvement. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the use of coaching in hotel chains management. Borders disappearence, free trade and the internationalization process create favorable conditions and new opportunities for expansion of hotel chains, recruitment of international workforce as well as the arrival of large numbers of both domestic and foreign tourists. The society has discovered the extraordinary potential of multicultural teams, but also realizes the threat caused by their improper leading. Nowadays, the managers and directors are forced to work under increasing pressure. Firms and employees requirements are becoming more and more demanding. On one hand, flexibility, independence, expertise and ability to act effectively in crisis situations are needed. On the other hand, ambitions and aspirations of employees themselves are also getting more obvious. The companies already know that a well-chosen leadership styles lead to the attainment of corporate goals and achieve personal and professional staff developement. During the eight-month work placement in one of the leading Spanish hotel chain Iberostar on the Canary Islands was studied approach and management styles on different levels of the organizational structure. Based on observations, structured interviews and the actual involvement in the managerial team work, the study serving as a basis for a final proposal for the application of coaching in this particular chain has been created. Considering the international work environment and multicultural teams, so typical just for tourism industry, the issue of cross-cultural management is also discussed. The previous coaching and intercultural communication studies at Johannes Kepler University in Linz have become the theoretical basis in this area.
