Bradna, Jakub ; Žikovská, Petra (advisor) ; Holcová, Irena (referee)
Use of Work of Art in the Internet Environment and Liability Relationships Abstract This thesis deals with the use of work of art in the Internet Environment and liability relationships arising on the Internet. The thesis examines the essential concepts that accompany the use of works on the Internet, their historical development and context. In particular, the author's exclusive right of communication to the public, the violation of which gives rise to a copyright tort, or the definition of an Internet service provider (ISP) under various EU legal regimes. The thesis also offers a summary of the most important aspects of the most recent applicable EU digital legislation (DSM and DSA), as well as a reflection on lessons learned from the enforcement of previous digital legislation. The thesis defines the conditions for limiting the liability of ISPs, the so-called safe harbor, and the consequences of leaving the safe harbor. This thesis offers a comparison between the American and European concepts of safe harbor. The thesis describes the construction of the copyright tort that may arise after the loss of safe harbor protection, assuming that the ISP is directly or secondarily liable. The thesis offers a brief summary of unfair competition and criminal liability as well. This thesis pays particular attention...

Nuclear reactors for new units in the Czech Republic
Brunčiaková, Miriama ; Martinec, Jiří (referee) ; Katovský, Karel (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is concerned with nuclear reactors in operation, in construction and in project plans. Because of that it is a very actual theme. Czech Republic tries to solve the question about building two new reactors for Temelín-3,4. There are two competitors in this tender. First of them is the CzechRussian consortium MIR.1200 with the alike named project MIR.1200, and the second one is Westinghouse company with the project AP 1000. Both of these projects belong to III.+ generation of nuclear reactors. In comparison with the previous generations, this generation brings evolution changes and uses much more passive security elements. The project AP 1000 solves heavy accidents by passive security systems solely. The project MIR.1200 uses combination of both active and passive security systems.
Non-fish prey in the diet of fish-eating mammals, Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) and mink (Neovison vison)
Tuzarová, Veronika ; Čech, Martin (advisor) ; Poledníková, Kateřina (referee)
The Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) is considered, along with the American mink (Neovison vison), a significant fish predator not only in the Czech Republic but also in other regions across Europe. One of the goals of this study is to determine, based on available literature, the types of prey that form the diet of the Eurasian otter and the American mink, specifically focusing on the non-fish component of their food and how the percentage representation of these items changes in the diet of both species depending on habitat and season. Another objective is to verify whether the American mink has a higher proportion of non-fish prey in its diet compared to the Eurasian otter. The processed data describing the diet through spraint analysis in biomass units were divided according to climatic regions, i.e., temperate, Mediterranean, and also based on the type of aquatic environment, i.e., stagnant or flowing water. The results of the study indicate that the American mink consumed, on average, three times more non-fish prey (74 % biomass) throughout the year than the Eurasian otter (24 % biomass). The seasonal variation had the most notable impact on the consumption rate of frogs and birds in the non-fish diet of both predators. According to the analyzed data, both predators especially focused on frogs,...
Is it possible to research translation activity of women who were members of "The American Women's Club" in Prague in the 19th and early 20th century?
Suchomelová, Kristýna ; Kalivodová, Eva (advisor) ; Topor, Michal (referee)
This thesis focuses on the translation activity of women who were members of the American Ladies' Club, since its establishment in 1865 until 1910. It provides a short overview of the historical context, focusing mainly on the development of the Czech women's movement and the history of the American Ladies' Club. It then describes the research that was conducted and which sources were used. Next, the results of the research are described, mainly in terms of how the translation activity of the Club's members developed over time and what languages and genres were translated. The relationship between individual members' translation activity and their own literary work is also examined. This general overview is then accompanied by a translation analysis of two selected translations and their original texts. Key words: women translators, The American Ladies' Club, Prague, 19th century, early 20th century, translation history
Contemporary American right-wing extremism using the example of the Proud Boys with a focus on the ideology of violence
Šaník, Jan ; Charvát, Jan (advisor) ; Dopieralla, Jakub (referee)
This thesis examines contemporary American extremism, using the example of the far-right, all-male organization Proud Boys, whose members refer to themselves as "Western chauvinists." Thesis analyzes the group in terms of its history, organization, and hierarchy. Paying special attention to the group's ideology, the thesis aims to place the group in the larger context of American society and to name the factors that influenced the group's direction in terms of its ideological grounding in violence. In this thesis, I will defend the thesis that violence plays a privileged role that co-creates the ideology of the group as a whole. The thesis is designed to provide an answer to the question "what role does violence play in the Proud Boys?" Through an in-depth qualitative content analysis, this thesis discusses the relationship between violence and the ideology of the Proud Boys and explains how violence contributes a unifying role. In general, this study contributes to an understanding of both the motivations and behaviors of the Proud Boys group and contributes to the larger discourse on extremism in contemporary America.
Social and Environmental Mobilization in the Arctic: Exploring the Discursive Strategies of the Gwich'in People
Jurčová, Alžběta ; Císař, Ondřej (advisor) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (referee)
This thesis explores the discursive practices of the Gwich'in tribe in Alaska, specifically in the context of the environmental conflict over the proposed oil development in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, an area they have inhabited for generations. Over the years, the tribe has been actively engaged in political activism to protect the Refuge from oil development, with a specific focus on safeguarding the Porcupine Caribou herd that inhabits the area. Drawing upon the theoretical framework of political ecology, the thesis posits that the core of this conflict lies in differing ontologies of nature rather than divergent interests. To address this research problem, the thesis investigates the discursive strategies employed by the Gwich'in and their evolution, utilizing critical discourse analysis guided by Van Dijk's sociocognitive approach. By analyzing testimonies given by Gwich'in speakers before the US Congress between 2003 and 2019, the research identifies four key discursive strategies utilized by the Gwich'in. The empirical evidence supports the hypothesis that ontological differences underpin the tribe's discursive repertoire. Through an exploration of the Gwich'in tribe's discursive practices, the thesis seeks to gain deeper insights into how their discursive practices contribute to...
Connectedness between stocks of cryptocurrency-linked US companies and the Cryptocurrency market
Šamaj, Tomáš ; Šíla, Jan (advisor) ; Čech, František (referee)
This Bachelor's thesis studies connectedness effects between returns of US-listed cryptocurrency-linked stocks (CLS), the traditional US stock market, and ma- jor cryptocurrencies. We present results of connectedness measures obtained by utilizing the Dynamic Networks framework. Our dataset contains daily returns of 20 CLS, the stock market index S&P 500 and five major cryptocurrencies, with a time span ranging from September 2021 to July 2023. The connected- ness measures indicate a significant total connectedness among variables within the system, across the whole time span. We also present directional connected- ness measures for individual variables and decompose the total connectedness into time horizons. We report the short-term horizon of connectedness effects between 1-5 days to be the most significant. Finally, we build Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regressions for CLS returns and find connectedness measures to influence returns of CLS with high exposure to the cryptocurrency market most significantly. Keywords Connectedness effects of returns, Cryp- tocurrencies, Bitcoin, Dynamic Networks, Cryptocurrency-linked stocks, Stock market Title Connectedness between Stocks of Cryptocurrency-linked US companies and the Cryptocurrency market.
Vietnam War during the years 1964-1975 from the perspective of Rudé právo and New York Times
Matoušek, Martin ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Groman, Martin (referee)
The main goal of this bachelor's thesis is to focus on key events of the conflict known as the Vietnam War through the perspective of the Czechoslovak and American periodicals i.e., the Rudé právo and the New York Times. By examining newspaper articles focusing on the most important events, it will help to understand the extent to which the subjective interpretation of the Czechoslovak communist periodicals differed from the American ones, and then to objectively put this information in a historical context. Given the period in which the war took place, it is assumed that both periodicals were to some extent subject to propaganda and did not inform their readers objectively. The work consists of three main parts, the first part outlines the historical and political situation in Vietnam and the United States. It then analyses the researched periodicals in a historical context. The second part focuses on the qualitative analysis of selected newspaper articles from both periodicals and their subsequent comparison. The third part then focuses on the final analysis of the data obtained in the second part and evaluates with what accuracy the information in the articles with the historical context coincided and whether the periodicals were objective in their information.
Issues in British-American relations: the Falklands War
Podolková, Klára ; Hornát, Jan (advisor) ; Raška, Francis (referee)
Diploma thesis Issues in British-American relations: the Falklands War deals with the special relationship between Great Britain and the United States and analyses in particular relations between their leading political figures - American president Ronald Raegan and British prime minister Margaret Thatcher. The aim of the thesis is to find out whether the special relationship played any role during the Falkland Islands War in 1982. The theoretical part is focused on the search for a definition of the term special relationship. I found different definitions of special relationship, but no universal one exists. The thesis operates with the definition of John Dumbrell, who says that the special relationship existed, specifically during the Cold War. The analytical part examines British-American cooperation during the above-mentioned conflict and the role of the United States as a mediator. The diploma thesis concludes that the special relationship played a role in the Falkland Islands War. It was reflected in the two countries' military, satellite, and intelligence cooperation. Even the personal relationship between Reagan and Thatcher confirmed the existence of a special relationship. The role of the US as a mediator was criticized as it proved to be non-neutral. Also, it was concluded that the...
