Content analysis of chosen periodicals targeting at university students

This thesis presents a complex view of the specifics of the media titles designed for college students in the Czech market, their historical development and current situation. It focuses closer on analysis of commercial media targeting university students. Titles named EuroCampus and Studenta (formerly Stip) were used in comprehensive analysis. The combination of suitably selected quantitative and qualitative methods of research of media content and opinions of audience provides important answers to questions such as: if students have knowledge of this kind of media titles, how the titles are perceived by this audience or if the editorial and advertising content brings original topics and interesting information which may be helpful after graduation. The theory of this thesis is defined by the current situation in the media market in the Czech Republic. Another important theoretical point is creating the typology of student media titles and analyze the history of publishing magazines EuroCampus and Studenta. The practical part is based on theoretical background of methodology explored by thematic agenda, content analysis of selected titles and in-depth interviews with the audience. Television as a factor of socialisation for early adolescents

This dissertation analyzes the trending habits of children as mass-media users. The goal of this dissertation is to show how children use massmedia, what does television mean to them and who are their favourite celebrities. The empirical segment is based on analysis of data taken from questionnaires created purposely for quantitative research. These questionnaires were given to students in the 6th grades of elementary schools and 1st grades of 8-year secondary grammar schools, both in Prague in the Czech Republic. At the beginning, there is a general theoretical part - an overview of mass-communication and its influence on the socialisation of children and a series of advantages and disadvantages of the impact of mass-communication on children and also characteristics of the age group of my respondents. The following text is divided in three parts that relate to three parts of the questionnaire. The first part analyzes how much children use media in their leisure time, what types of media are most popular amongst them. The second part focuses on television, what TV programmes are popular amongst children and why, if adolescents have something forbidden from their parents and what they think about watching television. Comparison of tabloidization trends of czech journals Blesk and Aha! in 2006-2012

Diploma thesis "Comparison of Tabloid Trends in Czech Daily Tabloid Press Blesk and Aha! in the period of 2006-2012" focuses on tabloid trends of two Czech tabloids Blesk and Aha! in the period of 2006-2012. One of the goals is to compare the degree of tabloidization in both daily press throughout time in respect of defined tabloid features. The study clarifies and defines tabloid features and how they change in time through quantitative content analysis. The quantitative part is completed with qualitative case study which compares the tabloid aspects in tabloid press Blesk and broadsheet Lidové noviny. The results of the analysis say that some tabloid trends, for the most part visualization, are more intense, on the other hand some presumptions are not confirmed, for example big titles or short texts in the articles. Czech tabloid daily press is characterized by dominance of home news and soft news, this proportion did not change through time. The results of case study about death of former president Václav Havel in 2011 indicate that Blesk and Lidové noviny refer about the same topic in a different way in the beginning. Social network Common sing: subcultures and media

In the course of 20th century, various subcultures became important part of our society. They were formed by mutual belief and shared interest in values often dissonant to those of majority. This paper describes larp community, fellowship that creates and organizes theatre- like role playing sessions. Live action role playing is about establishing new fictional worlds and retrieting legendary tales with main focus on joy experienced during the game. A radio documentary "Fenomen larp" (i.e. Phenomenon LARP) complementing this paper provides detailed insight. Main goal of the work is to put together the overview of the means of communication within larp community with accent on zines, webzines and Facebook. It also describes the way mainstream media covers the topic and what is the public opinion towards larp together with content analysis of texts published in "Pevnost" (i.e. Citadel) magazine. In appendix there are photographs from documentary shooting, interview with Helena Jiskrova (creator of Common sign social network) and overview of media outputs on larp in Czech Republic during 2014.
Gramification and its practical applications through the use of tablets in the context of school education

This thesis examines the use of gamification principles in education, specifically where tablets are being used in the classroom. Individual chapters deal with explaining the concepts related to gamification, educational games and the specifics of implementing tablets into education. Their specific usage was examined through conversations with the teachers and students of Year 2 of a primary school, with the results being recorded in the research section. Research questions examined the theoretical concepts introduced in the first part of the thesis and centred around the theme of education via tablets. The types of tablet applications used were also investigated. When possible this thesis compares the views of teachers and students on the areas examined.
Analysis of online adolescent users behavior and its impact to real life

The diploma thesis analyses the impact of online behaviour on a real life. It is divided into a theoretical (chapters 1 to 3) and practical part (chapters 4 to 7). The first chapter introduces the current trends and generally the topic of social networks, the internet, online communication and relationships. The second chapter describes main forms of cyber antisocial behaviour. The third chapter is focused on the process of socialization and growing up from the point of view of developmental psychology. It also shows individual mental and behavioural frames of the cyber reality which penetrates the real world. The practical part deals in four chapters with different forms of a research which aim was to verify outlined hypotheses and facts mentioned in the theoretical part. The selected methods are quantitative research among high school students distributed through questionnaires, the qualitative interviews among high school teachers and the quantitative analysis of the educational journal. The fourth chapter describes theoretically the methodology of the research. The last three chapters document each part of the research, partially verify the outlined hypothesis and interpret the results.
Difficulties of internal communication in the multinational company

The importance of corporate communication is even more highlighted nowadays than it has been couple years ago. The reason behind is that companies are constantly growing and effective employee communication within such companies is becoming more difficult. This Diploma thesis aimed to find out how to improve internal communication in selected company. For this purpose a solid communication theory has been presented and a real company chosen to be examined in the analytical part. The analytical part examined and wraped up outcomes from questionnaire and interviews. The outcome of the thesis offers an answer to a research question How can multinational company improve its employee communication and revealed opportunities for improvement. New media as a topic of media education

The thesis deals with media education with special reference to new media. Media education has been a part of Czech curicula since 2004 and schools struggle with how to cope with it. In past few years new media came out to be a significant element of media education. New media are important part of everyone's life in informational society. Therefore it is neccessary to widen media literacy to new media as well. Children are growing with new media and they take them as a natural part of their lives. On the contrary teachers very often do not need new media and use them marginally. The author of the thesis tries to map how teachers and children are facing new media not only in media education but even in their lives. The first part of the thesis describes basic elements of the issue - informational society, media literacy, media education and new media. One chapter deals with media education in the Czech Republic, its past and present. The second part of it describes the methodology of the research with its advantages and disadvantages. The main part of the thesis contains a mixed research combining two methods (questionnaries and in-depth interviews).
