Czech and Slovak media representation of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia
Kvítková, Alena ; Šafařík, Petr (advisor) ; Lizcová, Zuzana (referee)
The master thesis Czech and Slovak media representation of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia is concerned with the way in which media portrayed the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. Through the analysis of articles on the topic in question it examines the media image created by each newspaper respectively, by Czech and Slovak newspapers as two units and the overall image based on all of the collected data. Three Czech (Mladá fronta DNES, Rudé právo and Blesk) and three Slovak (Smena, Pravda and Nový Čas) newspapers served as the source for the analysis. Articles from two periods were collected - from the time the act on the dissolution of Czechoslovakia was passed and from the time the actual dissolution took place. The aim is to establish the overall media image of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, but also to compare and contrast the image created by Czech and Slovak newspapers and to study their differences concerning the overall positive, negative or neutral image as well as the implemented media frames. In addition, the thesis also focuses on the different portrayal of the dissolution in right-wing and left-wing newspapers and broadsheet and tabloid press. The final confrontation of the results with public opinion surveys is also important as it proves the connection between the media agenda and...
Reflection of the TV series Holocaust in the selected print of the West Germany
Gerstnerová, Dominika ; Emler, David (advisor) ; Lizcová, Zuzana (referee)
The topic of this bachelor thesis is the television series Holocaust and its reflection in the selected German press in the period from January 15 to February 5, 1979, when Holocaust was introduced on German television for the very first time. Because of the fact that the series confronted German viewers with a sensitive and serious topic from the near past, and was processed in a very commercial way, it caused commotion all over the world and the series became the main subject of controversial public debates. On the occasion of the premiere in Germany, local periodicals widely contributed to the discussions and published an unexpectedly large number of articles in which they discribed both general information on the storyline, the course of broadcasting or the growing viewership, and opened more serious topics about the greater meaning of the series and its effect on the public. It should be noted that in the late 1970s, when the television product was introduced, Germany was divided into two separate states: the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) and the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). This thesis analyzes exclusively the reflection in the West German press, which is represented here by the weeklies Der Spiegel, Stern and Die Zeit, and aims to analyze in detail the main issues...
"Oi! Warning" and "Dazlak - Skinhead" - Skinheads as a threat for German society?
Koryntová, Eva ; Lizcová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Zelená, Alena (referee)
This thesis deals with the German skinhead subculture in the 1990s and its presentation in the contemporary films Dazlak - Skinhead and Oi! Warning. Firstly, the theoretical part describes the origin and attributes of the skinhead subculture in Great Britain and its evolution in Germany. Afterwards, it focuses on the two films, puts them into the context of the history of the skinhead movement in Germany and introduces their storyline and characteristics. Furthermore, the presentation of skinheads in these films is analysed. The basis of the analysis are four theses, which the specialist literature defines for the skinheads characteristic: tendency to right-wing extremism, violence and aggression, the working-class origin and specific lifestyle characterized by listening to skinhead music, drinking alcohol and attending parties and concerts. Most of these statements are confirmed by the two films. However, both of them present the subculture in a different way. The black and white film Oi! Warning does not focus on the issue of right-wing extremism but on violence, aggression and skinhead lifestyle. For its overall aesthetics, tragic ending and the negative character of the "real" skinhead Koma, it can be argued that this film presents the subculture in a negative way. Dazlak - Skinhead tries to disprove...
Jörg Haider's impact on the Austrian Free Party (FPÖ)
Floder, Daniel ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Lizcová, Zuzana (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the impact of Jörg Haider on the development and changes of Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) mainly in the time of his chairmanship of the party on the federal level between the years 1986 and 2000, when the small party, troubled by infighting between the German-nationalist and the liberal wing, gradually transformed into a practically unified right-wing populist party. The aim of this thesis is to define the influence Haider had on his party given the party's exponential rise in popularity, a trend that culminated in the federal election of 1999, where the FPÖ won a staggering 26,9 % of votes. The research therefore focuses on Haider's personality and party governance, which includes his way of making decisions within the party, pushing through his ideas, dealing with the opposition of his party colleagues, and, last but not least, his political and ideological directing of the party. Haider's behaviour within the party, and in public, is also analysed in the thesis, with regards to the behaviour of the other members of the FPÖ. The thesis also deals with other time periods of Haider's life and the FPÖ's existence. One of these periods is the time before Haider became the chairman of the FPÖ to bring a better contextualization and understanding of the ideological...
The Role of Investigative Journalism in a Democratic Society on the Example of Günter Wallraff
Hubeňáková, Monika ; Šmidrkal, Václav (advisor) ; Lizcová, Zuzana (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the topic of investigative journalism in a democratic society, on the example of Günter Wallraff, a pioneer of German investigative journalists. His work and methods are controversial and questioned, so I focused on what ethical and legal obstacles his two selected works had to overcome. I chose two reports - Informationen aus dem Hinterland and Ganz unten, from the seventies and eighties of the twentieth century. Both reports were filmed with a hidden camera and were therefore not accepted by the public at first, but after the Federal Constitutional Court's decision, the hidden camera search method was just recognized if it leads to the detection of misstatements. To answer the research questions, I worked with period archival articles and secondary literature. I have connected concrete information from the articles with the knowledge from secondary literature. Reconstructing the link between the two works, the motive of the whole work was journalism as the fourth power in the state, which ensures respect for human rights and freedoms and thus contributes to the maintenance of a democratic society.
The Importance of two German-Czech European Battlegroups with regard to German-Czech Relations
Žemla, Daniel ; Handl, Vladimír (advisor) ; Lizcová, Zuzana (referee)
The goal of this Bachelor thesis was to examine the importance of two German- Czech European Battlegroups with regard to German-Czech security relations. This thesis is concerned with the mutual security cooperation of both countries since 1990. It reveals a dynamic development in the bilateral relationships, especially a conciliation with the past, which has been a precondition for later successful cooperation. Differing historical experience projected into an attitude of both states towards their armed forces, which is noticeable until the present day. The thesis further analyzes the German role during the NATO enlargement in 1999 and discusses the military cooperation of the Czech Republic with the Federal Republic of Germany both in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the European Union. The main emphasis is placed on the concept of European Battlegroups and its practical realisation in four particular examples: Czech-Slovak (2-2009), the first German-Czech (2-2012), the first Visegrad (1-2016) and the second German-Czech (2-2016) European Battlegroups. The thesis does not marginalize current developments and therefore in its conclusion focuses on the planned creation of the second Visegrad (2-2019) and the third German-Czech Battlegroups (2-2020). The data mainly comes from numerous...
