Impact of reading on vocabulary, text comprehension and fancy of protagonists on children of pre-school age
Marklová, Tereza ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee)
This thesis is concerned with the impact of reading on vocabulary, text comprehension and fancy of protagonists on pre-school children aged 3 to 6. The purpose of the research part of the thesis is to find out to which extend reading impacts on vocabulary, text comprehension and fancy of protagonists of pre-school children aged 3 to 6. First hypothesis expects that during the one-month project children who are exposed the most to reading and working with a book are going to make the biggest progress in text comprehension and vocabulary. Other two hypotheses try to prove that older children are going to have better results than the youngest research participants at the beginning and the end of the project. Third hypothesis then adds that the youngest, 3 years old, children are going to improve significantly only in the questions that are repeated and that it is due to memorizing, not comprehension. Last hypothesis claims that children most involved in reading are going to take to new favourite characters. The theoretical part describes the development of a child since childbirth to 6 years, with an accentuation on the period between 3 and 6 years of age and analysis of fairy-tale as both a genre of literature and an instrument of child's development stimulation. The practical part of the thesis is a...
Otherness of Pupils from Migrant Backgrounds as a Topic for Story-Based Teaching
Neužilová, Dominika ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Komberec, Filip (referee)
This thesis examines the topic of teaching the theme of otherness of pupils from migrant backgrounds to younger school-aged children, specifically through narrative engagement utilizing the Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking methods. Within the framework of action research, reading lessons were designed and executed to explore various facets of the situations faced by pupils from migrant backgrounds. This educational intervention is meant to facilitate comprehension of these pupils' circumstances and foster the overall acceptance of them. An analysis of the outcomes for each lesson is presented, also the outcomes were evaluated in terms of pedagogical reflection. Moreover, two of them were evaluated by another teacher. Topic relevant literature for children was thoroughly examined and incorporated into the research findings. The reading lessons were based on the following four titles: Kiko and the Secret of the Paper Butterfly, Maja and Kim, The Arab of the Future and Eric. The following methods were employed: unstructured observation, thematic analysis, semi-structured interviews, and content analysis of the lesson outcomes. The research took place in a primary school in two classrooms: 4th grade, comprising of 22 pupils (Class 1); 5th grade, comprising of 21 pupils (Class 2). The lessons...

Empathy possibilities with literary characters in the reception of Jan Balabán's short stories
Klečka, Petr ; Neumann, Lukáš (advisor) ; Laufková, Veronika (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with reader empathy towards literary characters in Jan Balabán's short stories, specifically focusing on the means of text construction that enable this empathy. The theoretical part of the thesis first defines the subjects of the empathic response - the literary character and the reader. Subsequently, the empathic process is also defined. In the practical part, three short stories from different short story collections by Jan Balabán are then analysed, because the sub-research of the bachelor's thesis is focused on the transformation of the means of text construction key to eliciting an empathic response in the context of Balabán's work. The analyses themselves are structured into the different levels of literary character, narrator, story, space-time and language. The analyses then show that the empathic response in the reader is elicited in a similar way in the first two stories, mainly due to the blurring of the distinctions between the narrator's zone and the character's zone, which evokes a similarity with interpersonal interaction, as well as due to the sites of non-determinism that result in the elicitation of so-called external inferences. The third short story is more descriptive, the character's feelings are captured more explicitly, there is no blurring of the...
A comparison of teachers' attitudes towards qualitative and quantitative assessment before and after the Covid-19 pandemic
Výborná, Andrea ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Novotná, Kateřina (referee)
The aim of the diploma thesis is to analyze a sample of 46 Czech first-grade pedagogues, whether there was a change in their perspective on verbal assessment after distance learning due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This work is divided into two parts. The introductory part of the first, theoretical part contains information from scientific publications regarding the concept of assessment in general, its functions, its types and forms. In the next part, the theoretical part deals with quantitative and qualitative assessment with an emphasis on their influence on the student's motivation. In the second, practical part, I compared the results of 2 researches carried out by me in the form of a questionnaire. One was implemented in 2020 and the second, enriched with 2 update questions, was implemented in 2023 on the same sample of respondents. The conclusion of the thesis contains the answer to the question posed at the beginning of my diploma thesis. From the data collected from my 46 respondents, it appears that educators' views on verbal assessment did not change significantly after distance learning during the Covid-19 pandemic, although there was a slightly more positive perception of verbal assessment.

1 ABSTRACT The diploma thesis deals with the use of a lapbook in preschool education. The introduction of the theoretical part is dedicated to the explanation of the term lapbook and squashbook, the history of the lapbook, its use in Czech education and it aims to introduce this didactic aid. In connection with the theoretical preparation of the teacher for the creation of lapbooks, the theory of multiple intelligences and the types of learning styles are presented, which should be taken into account when planning the content of the lapbook. The positive benefits of working with the lapbooks in the areas of reading, information and mathematical preliteracy are presented. Furthermore, the three-phase E - U - R model, which will also be used in the research, is presented in theory. The practical part is devoted to the use of lapbooks in a kindergarten environment. It aims to compile the steps of teacher preparation for creating a lapbook, the creation of model lapbooks and methodical instructions for their creation. A qualitative approach to the research is applied with the use of case studies, participatory observation, unstructured and semi-structured interview and the analysis of the work with five lapbooks, which were created in the course of almost five months by five children aged 5-6 years. The...
