Evaluation of International Financial Integration on Growth in CEE Countries
Yang, Yang ; Jeřábek, Petr (advisor) ; Li, Yating (referee) ; Čech, František (referee)
The thesis examines the influence of international financial integration on growth in Central and Eastern European economies using a two-way fixed effects model with macroeconomic data for 16 Central and Eastern European countries from 2007 to 2021. The thesis draws several conclusions. First, the ratio of net FDI inflows and outflows to GDP does not present a significant effect on growth. Although the stock data on FDI is similarly not significant for the overall sample regression, the regression of the sample divided into developed and developing economies shows a positive effect of FDI liabilities on economic growth for developed economies and a negative effect of FDI liabilities on economic growth for developing economies. Second, for both the overall sample, developed economies, and developing economies, none of the portfolio investment asset variables are statistically significant, except for portfolio investment assets in developing economies. Third, both portfolio debt and other investment debt negatively affect economic growth in developing economies and the overall sample, while the result is not significant for developed economies.
The Impacts of Economic Globalization on Poverty and Income Inequality: Evidence from CEECs
Hu, Yi ; Jeřábek, Petr (advisor) ; Amini, Chiara (referee) ; Semerák, Vilém (referee)
This paper aims to explore the relationship between economic globalization and poverty and income inequality in Central and Eastern Europe Countries (CEECs). Despite the considerable research on the effects of globalization on poverty and income inequality, there is a lack of consistent conclusions and a specific emphasis on CEECs. To address these research gaps, we employ two-way fixed-effects regression model, country fixed- effects regression model, and random effects-regression model to examine the impacts of the KOF economic globalization index as well as its sub-indices on World Bank absolute poverty estimates and World Bank Gini index estimates using panel data of nine high-income CEECs from 2004 to 2020. Overall, the study suggest that economic globalization reduces both poverty and income inequality in CEECs, which contradicts the expectation that globalization may exacerbate income inequality. By disaggregating the impacts of economic globalization, the results show that trade and financial globalization can significantly reduce poverty yet only financial globalization can substantially decrease income inequality. Additionally, positive effects of restrictions are more robust than those of actual flows. These findings support policies that promote economic openness in CEECs to mitigate...
Kinematic analysis of deformed quartzite from the Vysoký kámen: implications for development of the Saxothuringian orogenic wedge
Ildžová, Tamara ; Jeřábek, Petr (advisor) ; Jouvent, Marine (referee)
The Saxothuringian orogenic wedge is an impressive example of a collisional orogenic wedge formed during the Variscan orogeny in the Bohemian Massif. The Vysoký kámen area in the Erzgebirge Mountains (Saxothuringian Domain) represents a part of the outer wedge which was not subducted into the great depths during the evolution of the wedge. To better understand a polyphase deformation in this frontal part of the former accretionary wedge, the study focuses on macro and micro-scale analyses of deformed quartzite and quartz veins from the Vysoký kámen area. Two main deformation fabrics (S1 and S2) were formed under slightly different P-T conditions and linked to two deformation events (D1 and D2). The S1 fabric defined by coarse-grained recrystallised quartz grains and by axial planes of folded quartz veins is related to a simple shear regime but also shows stretching in the folds axes in the NS direction. This subhorizontal and gently eastward dipping metamorphic foliation is associated with deformation event D1 during which the area subducted. Minerals such as paragonite and rutile, and a higher silica content up to 3.17 a.p.f.u. recorded in micas reflect a subduction environment. The second deformation fabric S2, characterised by fine-grained recrystallisation, is generally identified as...

Jeřábek, Petr ; Štolleová, Barbora (advisor) ; Starcová, Marcela (referee)
The submitted bachelor thesis traces the development of advertising strategies of companies oriented to the production and sale of fast-moving consumer goods by analyzing their advertising production in selected daily press and animated and live-action advertising films available to Czechoslovak consumers in the interwar period. It traces the quantity of promotional messages and development trends in their placement on the basis of an analysis of contemporary periodicals. In terms of the content of promotional messages, it analyses the common linguistic and visual motifs used to communicate with customers. The thesis highlights the advantages of selected media for the purpose of influencing customers and their consumption habits. The findings of the thesis enable an assessment of the standard of promotion of convenience goods in Czechoslovakia in terms of implementation of contemporary progressive trends popularized by Czechoslovak advertising theorists, as well as its position within an international context. Optimization of a loop-mediated isothermal amplification method for a detection of Haemophilus influenzae infection.
Zadáková, Kateřina ; Jeřábek, Petr (advisor) ; Svášková, Dagmar (referee)
Haemophilus influenzae is a gramnegative, rod-shaped and predominantly human pathogen. Infection caused by this microorganism is especially dangerous for children under five years of age, who are mainly at risk of pneumonia and meningitis.Althought vaccination is available against its most dangerous type b, it still causes problems, especially in developing countries. Due to the insufficient vaccination, strains that are more resistant to the antibiotics are more spreading in these countries. Equipment requirement of current detection options for H. influenzae infection(e.g. polymerase chain reaction) causes, that reliable detectionis a problem in poor countries. Loop-mediated isothermal amplification could be a cheap and reliable method. The aim of this bachelor thesis was the design of sets of primers and their applicationinthe LAMP reaction. The designed primers targetedthe ompP6 gene, which was alreadythe target of LAMP reaction in some studies and is also a frequent target in PCR detection. As a part of the optimization, different volumes of the reaction mixtures and multiple detection options were tested -colorimetric detectionusinganacid-base indicator and fluorescence detection using different dyes monitored in real time. Key words: Haemophilus influenzae, loop-mediated isothermal...
Optimization of a loop-mediated isothermal amplification method for testing samples of patients with acute upper respiratory tract infection.
Čížová, Kateřina ; Jeřábek, Petr (advisor) ; Bělonožníková, Kateřina (referee)
The bacterium Staphylococcus aureus is currently one of the most frequently detected pathogenic bacteria in laboratory practice. It is particularly problematic when it comes to antimicrobial resistance. An important tool in the fight against this pathogenic microorganism is a suitable method of its detection, which could be the loop-mediated isothermal amplification method. The presented diploma thesis deals with the optimization of this method for the detection of the nuc gene of the Staphylococcus aureus bacterium. A protocol was established for the detection of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria using loop-mediated isothermal amplification method using newly designed "primers" targeting the nuc gene. To improve the detection limit of the method and to combat false positives of the negative control, steps were taken to optimize the method. Using the method, we were able to safely distinguish samples containing template DNA with a concentration of 0.05 pg/μl from a negative sample within 20 minutes. Using an optimized protocol, it was possible to reliably identify the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus in clinical samples taken from the breath of patients. The result of the work was a new, fast, and reliable method of detecting the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus using the loop mediated isothermal...
Intra-industry trade and human capital endowment: a case of EU-CEE trade
Zeng, Jiayi ; Semerák, Vilém (advisor) ; Merrino, Serena (referee) ; Jeřábek, Petr (referee)
To assess the effect of human capital endowment on intra-industry trade between CEE countries and the EU, this paper used trading data from 2000-2019 in the machinery sector between the Visegrad and Germany as the representative. Meanwhile, this paper used secondary and tertiary educational attainments separately as the proxy for human capital endowment and included other factors influencing intra-industry trade. Before the econometric regression, a descriptive statistical analysis was carried out, and we recognized that the intra-industry trade between the CEE countries and the EU is of vertical nature. According to regression results, we found that the domestic market size and the difference in economic mass had a positive relationship with the intra-industry trade of CEE countries. Similarly, the GDP per capita was positively correlated to intra-industry trade in this area. In addition, geographical distance and contiguity levied significant impacts on intra-industry trade of CEE countries. However, the effect of EU membership was nonsignificant in our sample. More importantly, secondary and tertiary educational attainments had opposite influences on intra- industry trade between CEE countries and the EU, which implies that although they have high educational attainments, the CEE countries...
Age of metamorphism and geodynamic evolution of Vepor Unit in the Central Western Carpathians
Rajmonová, Eliška ; Jeřábek, Petr (advisor) ; Peřestý, Vít (referee)
Western Carpathians are characteristic for their complicated geological structure and uncertain tectogenesis. To understand the context of geological structure and evolution it is important to date the rock units and compare the results with geochemical analysis. The dating can bring results of the age of rocks or of their specific minerals. And because the minerals do not grow at the same time in the rocks, it is possible to date the exact event, which is connected with the growth of an exact mineral and with that connected structure. With respect to the results of dating and observing it is possible to create a model of geological evolution in the locality and support the idea of an exact geological period. The subject of this research is the Vepor Unit in the Central Western Carpathians. The dated rocks (orthogneiss and quartzite) contain garnets that are a product of metamorphosis and for that reason, the garnets are younger than the protolith. This research aims to find the age of the garnets and the age of the associated metamorphosis using the Lu-Hf method. Based on some older articles the age of metamorphosis is assumed to be on the boundary of the Lower and Upper Cretaceous. The research is also focused on the chemical composition of garnets and the macroscopical structure of the rocks...
Physics of the H2O-weakening effect in deformation of quartz
Pongrac, Petar ; Jeřábek, Petr (advisor) ; Stipp, Michael (referee) ; Peč, Matěj (referee) ; Kronenberg, Andreas (referee)
In order to investigate the influence of H2O on relationships between mechanical behavior, microstructural properties, deformation mechanisms and H2O distribution in natural quartz aggregates, the Tana-quartzite samples were deformed with various quantities of added H2O. The samples were deformed in axial shortening setup (1) with constant conditions of 900 řC, 1 GPa and strain rate of ∼10−6 s−1 , (2) in strain rate stepping in interval ∼10−5 to ∼10−7 s−1 , and (3) in temperature stepping in interval 750 řC to 950 řC. The constant conditions experiments were carried out with added H2O in a range from 0 (as-is) to 0.5 wt%, while the strain rate and temperature stepping experiments were carried out using only as-is and 0.1 wt% H2O-added samples. With respect to their mechanical behavior, the samples after con- stant conditions experiments are grouped into low-H2O (0-0.2 wt% added H2O) and high-H2O (0.3-0.5 wt% added H2O). The low-H2O samples show relatively similar mechanical behavior, with 0.1 and 0.2 wt% H2O-added samples showing slightly lower strength compared to the as-is ones. Behavior of the high-H2O samples is more erratic and less systematic, dividing samples to the weaker ones and the stronger ones. Most of the strain in the weaker samples is localized in the vicinity of the thermocouple...
