Narrative methods in literary reportages of Wojciech Tochman
Beshirová Idris, Esther ; Hájek, Roman (advisor) ; Čeňková, Jana (referee)
In this thesis I deal with three literary reportages from the collection Pánbůh zaplať by the Polish journalist and writer Wojciech Tochman who represents the Polish School of Reportage. These are the reportages Člověk, který vstal z kolejí, Vzteklý pes and Mojžíšův keř. I focus on what kind of narrative techniques Tochman uses in the process of writing reportages, what kind of function they have and if the usage of these narrative techniques influences the trustworthiness of a literary reportage. In the case studies I analyze every reportage with the help of a one chosen narrative technique. In the reportage Člověk, který vstal z kolejí I focus on the narrative gaps, in Vzteklý pes I deal with the usage of focalisation and in Mojžíšův keř is the main focus the storytelling through characters. Literary analyses show that the narrative techniques are used for better coherence and impresivness of Tochman's texts. These techniques help to express experiences of described characters and allow an independent interpretation to the reader. They are also used as references to important social phenomenona which enable to Tochman to bring universal testimony about the subjects of literary reportages. The thesis also deals with the problem of the trusthworthiness of literary reportages which leads to an...
Work of Czech Radio Council between 1992 and 2002
Hájek, Roman ; Moravec, Václav (advisor) ; Trunečková, Ludmila (referee)
According to the Czech law Czech Radio Council is the body through which the public excercises their right to control public service medium. Thesis Work of Czech Radio Council between 1992 and 2002 analyzes the operation of this supervisory authority in the first decade of its existence. Two basic approaches are applied. The first one is the quantitative analysis of the agenda of the Czech Radio Council. Based on research of the records from the Council meetings, the analysis divides the issues discussed by the Council into ten basic cathegories that are then quantified and compared. However, use of the above method necessarily leads to considerable standardization of the input data. Numeric outcome is therefore combined with historical interpretation that introduces factual operation of the Council and presents it in the context of integral functioning of the Czech Radio. Based on these two approaches the thesis provides a concept of periodization of the Czech Radio Council operation between 1992 and 2002. The text attempts to apprehend the Czech Radio Council in broader context of the development of public service broadcasting and its control, and also in the context of media system transformation in Central Europe after 1989.
Comparison of the media image of prosecutors G. Falcone and P. Borsellino in Italian press before and after the year 1992
Šauerová, Jana ; Cebe, Jan (advisor) ; Hájek, Roman (referee)
The topic of Mafia and the fight against it has always been very closely followed by media. The content of the news does not, however, always reflect the truth; sometimes we can even see an inclination to subjectivity and bias. On the example of Italian prosecutors Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, it is shown how the media formed the medial image of people who were particularly engaged in fighting the organised crime. Falcone and Borsellino were two Sicilian prosecutors who made a significant contribution in fight against the Mafia in the 1980s and 1990s. The medial image of both prosecutors was changing over time. The goal of this thesis is to compare the medial image of both prosecutors created by two Italian daily newspapers before and after 1992 (the year of the assassination of the prosecutors) and to asses the eventual differences in the approach of these periodicals. Qualitative analysis of selected regional and national newspapers shows that before the assassinations in 1992, Falcone and Borsellino were criticized and attacked, on the other hand, after 1992, a heroization process occurred. The medial content of both periodicals have been compared and specific topics covered by each of them have been identified.

Analysed categories are then narrator, focalization, description of a character and a alternating of the report and contextual parts of the feature genre. An important part of the work is analysis of intentionality of the use of certain type of narrators and focalization. Some of the narrative strategies, types of narrators and focalization used in the context of the journalistic texts influence the degree of objectivity/subjectivity of the narrative. Through analysis the comparison of the feature genre in Czech and Anglo-American journals is made, how they differ and what they have in common.
