Analysis of language of the Formula 1 commentators with main focus on vocabulary

The thesis covers the topic of sports commentary of Formula 1in Czech and Slovak language. Its goal is to find characteristics of commentary of this sport and compare fundamental differences from sports of the Czech mainstream (football, ice hockey). There is language analysis used for the purpose of the thesis with accent on vocabulary and its usage in the commentary with regard on the difference between vocabulary specific for motorsport and Formula 1 and common vocabulary used by the commentator. The analysis contains eight grand prix from 2021 to 2024. In selecting these races, attractiveness from both perspectives was taken into account, specifically both really attractive and less attractive races were chosen. The definition of specifics and contrasts of the Formula 1 commentary vocabulary is the main goal of the thesis. The text introduces main distinctions between sports journalism and other parts of journalism in combination with an outline of the definition of sports commentary and its problematic in academic world. The last drop - a series of articles about alcohol

The Czech Republic is among countries with the highest alcohol consumption per capita. Alcohol is widely spread and tolerated in Czech society, and both public debate and media fail to reflect its negative effects. Therefore, excessive alcohol use and addiction have become taboo topics with many prejudices and stereotypes. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to create a series of articles that address some less-discussed issues related to alcohol consumption. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on alcohol addiction, its impacts and treatment. It then analyses the media coverage of the issue, highlighting its shortcomings and offering possible improvements. Special attention is paid to the concept of social journalism as a tool for handling various social problems. The methodological part specifies the journalistic genres (interview, feature, and commentary) used in the practical part. It also describes the creation of the series of articles, choice of topics, interviewees, use of information, and ethical problems that arose during writing. Finally, the practical part of the thesis consists of five texts which address mental health, the relationship between children and alcohol, Czech beer culture, gender aspects of alcohol consumption, and abstinence.
Comparison of media coverage of the 2010 and 2022 FIFA World Cups in Slovak media

Bachelor thesis deals with the comparison of the media image of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and 2022 World Cup in Qatar. It compares it in two Slovak periodicals, in the SME newspaper and in the Šport newspaper. These two media are a fundamental part of the Slovak market and sport is one of their primary interests. The monitored period is the first 10 days of both championships. The theoretical part is devoted to sports journalism and its development. It also discusses social issues in sports and media coverage of high-profile events, which includes selected football world championships. It also describes in detail both World Cups, which the work research. In the practical part, using quantitative content analysis, the work classifies articles in selected periodicals into predetermined categories. Based on this, it compares which topics the selected newspapers covered in these periods. Furthermore, the work compares not only the topics, but also the authors and the scope that the media gave to the World Cups in individual years. The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis defines regional journalism, the magazine and the main formats that are part of the practical part: news, reportage, interview and editorial. It also provides a definition of downburst, introduces the Stebno municipality, presents the principles of journalists' behaviour during a disaster and describes my work on the practical part. The practical part, in the form of a magazine entitled Life in the Shadows, depicts the village of Stebno through journalistic and news texts. It is divided into four main sections: downburst, flood, treasure, and life. The texts are complemented by photographs on the topics, and everything is graphic in a magazine format.
The Evolution of Investigative Data Journalism, as exemplified by Processing Big Data Leaks

This thesis aims to describe and explain the issue of data leaks and their impact on journalistic practice. The research is based on already available definitions of terms related to the phenomenon and in-depth interviews with investigative journalists, programmers and data journalists and analysts. In addition to definitions of data and document leaks, the thesis describes specific challenges and issues involved in working with this information, and explains makes this journalistic field specific.
The development of football coach Pavel Vrba's media image

This bachelor's thesis deals with the development of Pavel Vrba's media image between 2011 and 2022. Pavel Vrba is one of the historically most successful Czech football coaches. In 2011, Vrba led football club FC Viktoria Plzeň to its historic first title in the top Czech division. Two years later, however, he used the exit clause in his contract in Plzeň and became the head coach of the Czech national football team. In the following years, his career was affected by several ups and downs, which may have had a significant effect on the presentation of his person in the media. How Vrba's media image developed and changed in six selected periods of his professional career is exactly what we will try to find out in this bachelor's thesis. The work is divided into theoretical, methodological and research part. The first of them defines the media image and representation as well as the concept of framing, describes the relationship between the media and sports, introduces the history of sports journalism and also the career of Pavel Vrba. Comparison of different approaches of selected Czech media to online formats depending on corporate convergence

The diploma thesis Comparison of Approaches to Online Formats in Selected Czech Media Depending on Corporate Convergence deals with the question of how the approach of selected Czech daily newspapers Mladá fronta Dnes, Deník Právo and Hospodářské noviny to their associated online news servers differs. Since the chosen media share a common characteristic, which is their originally purely print format, the author first describes the concept of media convergence, the process of media internetisation, explains the concept of digitalisation and the economic principles of media. As part of the research, the author first conducts a content analysis of texts published in the print versions of the media, which she then searches for on a news server and compars. The author also conducts three semi-structured interviews with representatives of the selected media. From the data obtained, it can be concluded that the situation is different in each of the media, both in most of the categories of content analysis examined and in the functioning of the newsrooms themselves. Analysis of information sources in Czech dailies'coverage about the Dozimetr case

The bachelor thesis focuses on the information sources used by the Czech printed national serious daily newspapers (Deník N, E15, Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny, MF DNES, Právo) in their coverage of the Dozimetr case. The thesis uses quantitative content analysis to examine which information sources the dailies quoted in the first month after the beginning of the Dozimetr case. In June 2022, the police charged thirteen people in this case, including then- deputy mayor Petr Hlubuček and Zlín businessman Michal Redl, for alleged corruption in the Prague Transport Company. One of the objectives of the research is to determine the extent to which the media cited unnamed sources or non-public police documents. The alleged overuse of such sources is regularly repeated in discussions of media coverage of criminal cases. The theoretical part of the thesis summarises the typology of information sources, information sources used in criminal cases and the way information is provided from criminal proceedings according to Czech legislation and case law. The relationship between sports and politics: Media coverage of the beginnings of the war in Ukraine in selected sports sections of the Czech media

This bachelor thesis examines the media image of the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in selected Czech online sports sections and media. The chosen period is from 24 February 2022 to 3 March 2022, i.e., the first week of the invasion. The thesis is divided into theoretical, methodological, and analytical parts. The introductory part is devoted to presenting the theoretical background of the thesis, which is based on the relationship between politics and sport, as well as the way in which sports journalism has influenced and historically shaped sport. The second section presents the aim of the thesis, the research method and the coding table. In the analytical section, the thesis then uses quantitative analysis to examine the texts in the selected media. Specifically, the research focuses on the number, source and type of texts, the thematic focus and the space provided to the parties to the conflict. The aim is to present the media image in the selected media and compare the results. The output is a practical part in which the predetermined research questions and hypotheses are answered.
The popularity growth of sport climbing demonstrated on media coverage of Adam Ondra

The bachelor thesis deals with the transformation of the reporting on sport climbing by three major Czech sports news sites Sport.cz, iSport.cz, and the sports section of iDNES.cz demonstrated on media coverage of the Czech climber Adam Ondra - a multiple medalist from the world and European championships, an Olympic participant, and the first person to climb the highest difficulty route ever achieved - considered to be the current best climber in the world. The theoretical part of the thesis encompasses, in addition to the profile of the observed athlete, the concept of gatekeeping and the related theory of news values which are subsequently applied to sports media and used in the analytical part. The thesis aims to capture the development associated with the transformation of reporting on Adam Ondra, and thus, on sport climbing as well. The purpose of the thesis is based on the hypothesis that the number of published articles is going to increase during the period under review due to Ondra's achievements. And that is going to be proven.
