Union of the journalists following of events Prague spring and its consequences at the time of normalization

The diploma thesis desribes the situation in Czech Union of Journalists during the Prague Spring era and the normalization era. Its aim is to explain to the reader how the situation changed after the intervention of Soviet army in August 1968. Prague Spring is generally perceived as a period of regime measures release and progressive ideas establishment. On the other hand, in the era after the Occupation strated theperiod of normalization and consolidation, which brought many repressive measures to light. It all took its toll in the function of Union of Journalists and the whole media sphere. The function of the Union o journalists becomes important from the political and ideological view. Attention is on the Union's structure as well. Thesis is focused on the period of 1968 to 1972 and embraces the historical events from Prague Spring to VI. Congress of the Union, in which the allegiance to Communist Party of Czechoslovakia was pladged by the journalists. It describes how the journalists were forced to conform their pursiut to the regime. Main focus is on the way of presentation of the journalists themselves, the relations in the Union and the change of the prestige and role of the journalist in the society before and after the normalization era. French press and Czechoslovakia under the Normalization

The aim of this thesis is to map and to present the chosen themes of cultural and political scene of the Czechoslovakia under the normalization, as that they were presented in a given period and in a specific french journal. Among a great number of press published in France beween 1968 and 1989, I've chosen Le Monde as a significant journal. Firstly I expose the main problematics of my subject and I contextualize it in time and space. Then I propose a quantitative analysis, followed by an interpretation considering the cultural and political evolution in both countries. In order to complete the image of Czechoslovakia under the normalization made by media, I also use the press published by Czech and Slovak emigrants living in France. The image made by french television, whose importance grows continuously from 1970s, contibues as well to my problematic. I consider this thesis as a contribution to the Czech-French cultural relations in 1968-1989, a theme that has not been studied enough by historians.
Czechoslovak-Mongolian political, economical and cultural relations 1968-1984

This thesis research relations between Czechoslovakia and the Mongolian People's Republic during the normalization process. The work is focused on the transformation of relations between both countries from the Prague Spring period to the revocation of Yumjaagiin Tsedenbal in 1984. The remaining five chapters, covering the time scope of foreign policy, monitor economical relationships, ideological and cultural section of Czechoslovak-Mongolian relations during the normalization process. The content of the thesis draws chiefly primary sources: government delegations, period articles, official reports, cultural campaigns and other archival material. Thanks to these sources it was possible to authentically describe relations of both countries
The Calamity: Neoformalist Analysis and Narratological Analysis

In my thesis I analyze narrative structure and style of THE CALAMITY (KALAMITA, Věra Chytilová, 1981). The aim of my analysis is to discover what kind of techniques Chytilova uses to violate norms of classical narration and style, how she uses film form to reflect upon lapses in morale and tries to disrupt social tendencies of the Normalization Period. I use neoformalist theory (David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson) and narratology (David Bordwell). Ideological Influencing in the Czechoslovak Children's Magazines of the 1970s

(in English): The aim of this thesis is to characterize ideological influence on the Mateřídouška magazine's pages in years between 1969-1979. The stress is laid down on the reader and their right to have a proper childhood in the period of so-called "normalization". I tried to solve the problem by analysing the previous evolution of the magazine and a consecutive analysis of given period's selected volumes. The research did show that Mateřídouška does place a great stress on tradition and it is necessary to evaluate it as a whole unit. Despite the outstanding return to the real socialism the ideology does assume a specific form. On the basis of discovered facts we can characterize this form in a more precise way and present a picture that children could have seen and read on the pages of Mateřídouška. Statue, location, relation - Bohemia in 80's of the 20th century

As a subject to my bachelor's thesis I chose the sculptures and installations made by Czech artists during the period of 1980s, which were created with the aim of exterior placement, out of the traditional exhibition spaces represented by museums and galleries. The keynote of my work will be the relation and interactions between a piece of art and its surroundings as well as the concept of space itself and its overlooked qualities that art may help to reveal. I decided to focus on the exhibition known as Malostranské dvorky, which took place in Prague in 1981. The idea that has led to the organization of the exhibition and its specific circumstances will be my main interest alongside the description of the particular works of art displayed and their destiny during and after the official end of the exhibition. Furthermore, I will compare the exhibition held in the intimate and unique atmosphere of the old Prague quarter with art that was produced in the same period of time within the official state commissions for newly constructed housing estates and public buildings, such as department stores, hospitals and more. Ladislav Helge: Caught between film and politics

The aim of the thesis is to map political activities of Ladislav Helge, a film director. Due to his social sensitivity and sympathies for the Red army as a liberator of Czechoslovkaia, he favored left-wing politics. At the beginning of his career he was not involved in politics and instead immersed himself fully in his profession of a film director. His first initiation to the world of politics came with the shooting of Frona. This film represents a turning point in both his artistic and political activities. Gradual de-Stalinization across the 1950s happened alongside Helge's first independent film project and his deliberate joining of KSC. The political intervention of the communist party into the liberal functioning of Czechoslovak film during the Banska Bystrica film festival determined his political activism that was to follow. In the mid 1960s Helge, as a leader of a professional film organization FITES, stood up to the attempts of the communist functionaries to curtail the artistic freedom of filmmakers belonging to the New Wave movement. Between 1968 and 1969 he led the Coordinating committee of creative associations and defended the freedoms gained during the Prague Spring. History and quality of the Most Beautiful Czech Book Contest from the point of view of evaluation committee and responses of period press

in English: This bachelor thesis deals with the Most Beautiful Czech Book Contest press evaluations between 1966 and 1990, also regarding the overall quality of Czechoslovak book design, typography and polygraphy. Summarization of the historical development is carried out by analyzing contemporary specialized and nonspecialized periodicals. The work is divided into theoretical and historical context of the issue, the analysis itself and a brief biographical introduction to Oldřich Hlavsa, Milan Hegar and Jiří Rathouský, the three masters of Czechoslovak book design and typography.
