Art Museums: Changes in their Social Function
Černá, Lucie ; Paulíček, Miroslav (advisor) ; Balon, Jan (referee)
Art museums still have an essential role, both for the art world and the wider society. This thesis deals mainly with their transformation and challenges they have to face in relation to contemporary society. It focuses on the development of museums, the transformation of values they embody and also on changes in normative expectations in conjunction with them. The paper also discusses the role of museums with increasing emphasis on their educational role, because this role could help museums to succeed in their current efforts to open to the wider audience. Today, these attempts to democratize represent crucial task of art museums. These efforts, however, depend on the concept of aesthetic taste which the paper also deals with. To be successful, it is desirable to view taste as a skill that can be cultivated through education. Since those who influence success in this field are museum professionals, this work deals also with their position within the museums and the art world and the strategies which are used by them. The fundamental shifts in art museums and their responses to the demands of the public occurred as a result of institutional critique that began in the 60's of last century. The new museology, critical curating and relational aesthetics can be included under this trend. As these...

Jirsa, Prokop ; Kotas, Jan (advisor) ; Dřímal, Ludvík (referee)
The outcomes of the Second Vatican Council have brought essential changes into liturgy, having impacted the liturgical space as well. However, the totalitarian communist regime that was in power in Czech lands at the time allowed only a limited space for the application of the Council outcomes in practice. That is why the post-Council situation in liturgy is in many ways unique in the Czech Republic. After the Velvet Revolution there was a rapid and rapturous development that has brought not only positives, but also certain negatives stemming from the too-quickly loosening grip of bondage. The aim of this thesis is to monitor the state of the discussion on liturgical space in the period between the Second Vatican Council and the present day. The theoretical part looks at the summary of the discussion in the Czech Republic before the Second Vatican Council, then briefly presents concept of sacred space of the Second Vatican Council and at the end outlines the pre-Council and the post-Council European context. The practical part consists in the finding, researching and evaluating of materials concerning the subject. They have been assessed according to three main criteria. The first is a historical viewpoint sorting the materials by the time they came into being. The second classifies them by the...

Fousková, Veronika ; Sokolová, Věra (advisor) ; Kalnická, Zdeňka (referee)
Toyen and sexuality is a frequent topic of art history texts written about the artist in the last twenty years. Toyen provoked with her erotic drawings and illustrations, her appearance and mysteriousness shrouded around her. Where did the roots of her desire, depicted in her work, came from? What was the role played by contemporary context? How her contemporaries wrote about sexuality? Were there any interpretations of the artist's work based on the known information about her person or personality? What was the Toyen's position as a woman? The empirical part of my thesis is based on research, where I try to seek for answers to the questions found in the texts published in Czechoslovakia. The research is bounded by years 1922-1947. Years when Toyen entered respectively left the Czech art scene. Her work has therefore been interpreted by persons who lived in the same cultural context, some of them were actually her personal acquaintances. I will also try to answer the question whether the contemporary texts differ from the texts written after 1989, eventually how. Within the examining the reflection of sexuality in the work of Toyen I will also ask myself whether the perspectives of view are different in the eyes of men and women. The question put in this way accompanies, depending on the answer,...
