The Political Rise of Angela Merkel on the Backround of the CDU Donations Scandal in 1999
Rubriciusová, Alžběta ; Picka, Ondřej (advisor) ; Nigrin, Tomáš (referee)
Angela Merkel, the current German chancellor, is one of the most important politicians of today. She has been involved in politics for 23 years and has held the post of the leader of CDU since 2000. Merkel' political start in the early 1990s was fast and had its climax in the CDU donations scandal which shook the foundations of the political party at the turn of the millennium. This bachelor thesis examines to what extent was this period of time crucial for Merkel's future political career and her steps. The donations scandal led to the party's financial crisis and fundamental staff changes. It damaged the party's image. This thesis will also deal with Helmut Kohl and his retirement from politics which was to a large extent provoked by the scandal and Merkel's role in it. This paradox, stemming from the fact that Kohl was Merkel's mentor since she entered politics, will be investigated. Merkel's political style will be analysed on the basis of her conduct in 1999. The role of German media was crucial in regards to the financial scandal and therefore will be analysed as well. The reflection of Czech media from that time will exemplify the importance of the CDU donations scandal for Merkel's career.

Kubešová, Pavlína ; Herczeg, Jiří (advisor) ; Gřivna, Tomáš (referee)
Criminal procedure, the public and media Pavlína Kubešová Abstract Information about crimes creates an important part of news in public and private media. Right to information about criminal procedures and criminality in general is in the democratic society undoubtedly a significant right of every individual no matter if through personal presence on a trial or receiving information from media. Presence of the public during a trial is a way how people can control the activity of the court. Criminal procedure is a case in which state has bigger interference with our rights and freedom than in other different cases. And that is why the public control is essential here. The possibility of the public to access information about criminal cases is then a guarantee for the accused that his or her guild will be debate before an impartial court rather behind the "close door". Media Picture of Volunteering: Mladá fronta DNES and Svět neziskovek in 2011
Tichotová - Fryčová, Linda ; Pospíšilová, Tereza (advisor) ; Navrátil, Jiří (referee)
The objective of this work is to survey the media picture of volunteering as provided to the public by the two Czech media - the most read quality paper in the Czech Republic Mladá fronta DNES and the professional electronic monthly Svět neziskovek. The survey consists of analysis of articles published in the respective media in 2011 for which the framing method (also called frame analysis) was used. With regard to the complexity of the phenomenon of volunteering, this work uses the theoretical concept of three paradigms (perspectives) as established by C. Rochester. These three paradigms (civil society paradigm, non-profit paradigm, volunteering as serious leisure) are identified in the articles, surveyed and mutually compared and subsequently the overall picture of volunteering as provided by the media is compiled. Quantitative evaluation of certain parameters related to volunteering within the articles (the field of voluntary activities, organizational context, age of volunteers and so forth) is also a part of this work.
