Teaching English and Pupils with Special Educational Needs

TITLE: Teaching English and Pupils with Special Educational Needs AUTHOR: Janka Kociánová DEPARTMENT: Department of Special Education SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Lenka Felcmanová, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: The thesis deals with the teaching of English of pupils with special educational needs, focusing on pupils with specific learning disabilities (SLD). The issue of pupils with SLD and didactics of English language are described in the theoretical part. The aim of the practical part was to find out how pupils with SLD are taught English in primary schools, which forms of education, the most frequently aids (textbooks, materials, etc.) and methods are used. Quantitative as well as qualitative methods were chosen for the research - the questionnaire survey (the questionnaire for teachers), aids and analysis of materials, interviews with teachers and case studies. On the basis of the obtained data, the effectiveness of the various activities is evaluated and a list of the recommended teaching aids, materials and resources is presented. The Utilisation of an Interactive Screen in the Practical Elementary School

This work is focused on the education of pupils with Mild intellectual disabilities, accurately a use of interactive whiteboard during instruction of pupils with special educational Leeds. The aim of this work is to find out how the interactive whiteboard is used in tuition and whether its use is expedient in terms of the specific Leeds of pupils with Mild Intellectual Disability. The theoretical part deals with the mental disability itself, its aetiology, specifics and mainly cognitive functions of people with mental disabilities. There is outlined the systém of Czech education dealing with pupils with mild intellectual disabilities too. Last chapters are devoted to the interactive whiteboards, thein types, programs, utilization and educational couses for pedagogues. In the practical part, the author deals with the work of pupils with mild intellectual disabilities on interactive whiteboard and its use during instruction. It has been chosen the qualitative research by methods of structured observation and interviews, by the technique of semi-standardized interviews. The detected information was collated by the open encoding method. Subsequently, the results of both methods of obtaining information were descussed and then, the conclusions were drawn. The fundamental finding of reseach, which responds to identified research questions, is that the interactive whiteboards is often used in schools, but selectively and expediently in various ways. These lessons preparing is more time-consuming so not every teacher does use this option. Pupils are motivated to work on an interactive whiteboard in the most cases they work on an interactive whiteboards very well. In almost every cases, the interactive whiteboar is always used by only one user, so for others i tis only a frontal teaching method. During my observation, I came up with several suggestions, which were discussed with the teachers.
Application of Music Therapy in Special Education for i-CT Framework

This bachelor thesis describes development of virtual guitar application for the purposes of music therapy in environment of special education for mentally challenged. Hence this thesis deals with issues of development of similarly focused applications, an analysis of some already existing applications of this kind and a design, implementation of a new application. The resulting application follows on design principles of " Computer as Therapy " project and it is based on i-CT Framework simplifying design and development of applications in indicated environment. The development is focused on multi-platform development with support for operating system Android and iOS. The verification of the application has been done in environment of mentally challenged people.
Application of AAC in Special Education for i-CT Framework

This bachelor thesis focuses on analysis of communication needs in special education during sessions with mental disabled people and also focuses on application, which addresses this problematic. Developed application enables users to create sentences by choosing picture symbols representing words or their own creating and subsequent voice synthesizing of constructed sentence. This application is designed for mobile devices with Android and iOS operating systems and was develop in accordance with " Computer as Therapy " design principles and serves as extension (add-on) for i-CT Framework, which encapsulates and simplifies interaction and management among applications designed for special education.
Inclusion and Its Expected Social-economic Impacts at Elementary Schools in the Czech Republic in 2016

The bachelor thesis deals with inclusion at elementary schools in the Czech Republic and tries to estimate expected social-economic impacts. In the theoretical part of the thesis terms such as integration and inclusion are defined, then the current legislationrelating to the education of pupils with special educational needs is described and last but not least the system of the Norwegian and the Finnish special education is presented. Firstly, the practical part shows based on macroeconomic data that inclusion may have positive economic impacts on assumption that sufficient financial sources are invested and appropriate conditions are set up. Finally, the results of the own questionnaire surveyproving that the appropriate conditions are not set up for the persons concerned in the Czech Republic.
Communication skills development integrated pupils 1st stage of primary school

This thesis deals the special pedagogical problems of education of integrated pupils in primary school. The aim of this thesis is analyze the communicative skills of pupils with different educational needs. The partial aim of this thesis is finding development of individual language levels of children with special educational needs in primary school according to a story from the book that commonly used in the classroom. The theoretical part is the basis for meeting performance targets. It dedicated to communication, speech and its development and individual education program. The practical part is based on method of qualitative nature - casuistries of pupils with different educational needs in primary school.
Specific Needs of Deaf People Studying at Universities in Czech Republic

The thesis focuses on the issue of education of people with hearing disabilities at universities in the Czech Republic. It emphasizes the specific educational needs of people with hearing disabilities who study at the university, and which meet the needs by support services. Work specifically address to the different types of support services and centres to support students with special educational needs at universities that offer these services. The survey, conducted in the form of online questionnaire, found that the use of support services is frequented and at the same time, the quality of these services is rated as very high. The survey also followed the use of modifications graduation exam correlated using a modification of entrance exams for universities. Created an online questionnaire in the Czech sign language provides effective feedback deaf students to the centres to support students with special educational needs. Posibilities of Support for Teaching a Foreign Language to Pupils with Special Educational Needs at Younger School Age

Doctoral thesis titled Posibilities of support for teaching a foreign language to pupils with special educational needs at younger school age responds to the need to change the traditional approach in teaching a foreign language to pupils with specific difficulties. The aim is to map the use of a support program designed to support the curriculum in the English language to pupils with special educational needs of younger school age and on the basis of proven support program of applied within normal normal teaching hours to propose recommendations for practical language teaching. Theoretical bases of the current knowledge about specific learning difficulties young learners. Research is based on analysis of identified problem areas and analyzing pupils' acquired knowledge of the English language among pupils research sample, under which the pupils of the experimental group targeted presented support program, which includes elaborate didactic material aiming to promote the adoption of English curriculum. Analysis of the results of the output test of acquired knowledge pupils of the experimental group was focused on mapping the displacement achieved language skills, analyze the level of motivation and activities of pupils.
