This bachelor thesis contains a translation of Calvin Thomas's article "Last Laughs: Batman, Masculinity and Technology of Abjection", which was published in a gender- oriented magazine Men and Masculinities. The second part of this thesis is a commentary on the translation. The commentary includes a translation analysis; it focuses according to relevance on extratextual and intratextual factors and on various translation problems that occurred in the process. The commentary describes strategies for dealing with the problems as well as the typology of translation shifts that occurs in the target text. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to translate Chapter 10 - Mirror Worlds - from George Basalla's book Civilized Life in the Universe: Scientists on Intelligent Extraterrestrials. This thesis includes the translation and the source text, as well as a commentary on the translation. The commentary theoretically reflects the translation process and is divided into four parts. The first part contains an analysis of the source text and potential translation problems. The second part describes the selected translation method and also comments on the differences between the source and the target communication situation. The third part comprises typology and solution to the translation problems. The fourth part describes the shifts that have been made in the course of the translation process. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to translate a part of the first chapter from James Twitchell's The Living Dead: A Study of the Vampire in Romantic Literature (subchapters The Vampire in Folklore, The Influence of Christianity and Other Influences) published in Durham in 1981, and to describe the whole process. The thesis includes three parts: the translation of the source text, the commentary and attachments, which include the source text, a questionnaire used to assess specialized knowledge of recipients, and a chart summarizing its results. The commentary includes four parts. The first one contains a source text analysis. The second one describes the communication situation of the translation and the method of translation. Reading film and literature

The first aim of this thesis is to translate Brian McFarlane's essay, Reading film and literature from The Cambridge Companion to Literature on Screen, so that it can be accepted by the Czech reader. Its second task is to comment on this translation; the commentary itself is conveniently arranged in three parts. The first part is dedicated to the translation analysis of the original text, its composition and to the relevance of the source context to the target recipient. The second part methodically describes problems that arose during the translation process and outlines their solution. The last part gives an account of the typology of translation shifts and tries to give reasons for their occurrence.

The aim of this thesis is to translate the chapter The birth of an industry written by Douglas Bruster for the publication The Cambridge History of British Theatre. This thesis further contains a commentary of the translation. The first part of the commentary is devoted to translation analysis of the original text, the second part concentrates on description of the translation problems and their solutions. This thesis is concluded by a typology of translation shifts.

The object of this bachelor thesis is to translate the first chapter called A history of seduction from Mark Tungate's Fashion brands: branding style from Armani to Zara and to describe theoretically the process. The thesis is comprised of three fundamental parts - translation, commentary and the attached source text. The commentary is divided into four parts. The first one contains an analysis of the source text for the purpose of translation, the second part describes the selected translation method and the relation between the translated text and the original communication situation. The third part of the commentary comprises typology of the problems that occurred during the process of translation and the last part describes the necessary shifts that have been made in the translation.

This bachelor's thesis consists of a translation and a commentary covering four points: translation analysis of the original, translation method, typology of translation problems and shifts. The translated text is a part of a book Women in Ireland: A century change written by Myrtle Hill. The book gives an account of the involvement of Irish women in important events which took place in Ireland in the 20th century. It also brings interesting information about their everyday life at that time. It contains much information about Irish culture and politics of that time and many citations from texts which are about hundred years old. The translation of the citations and the culture- bound facts will be a major challenge.
