Operation and sustainable development of the data warehouse
Hník, Pavel ; Pour, Jan (advisor) ; Šedivá, Zuzana (referee)
The present diploma thesis focuses on the subject matter of large data warehouses under the aspect of their sustainable operation and development, seeking to analyze the key factors which influence the operation of data warehouses at large businesses. The thesis is divided into three main sections, preceded by a short theoretical introduction. The first part aims at explaining and illustrating the architecture of data warehouses, with the bulk of this section being devoted to a description of the key components of data warehouse solutions as a whole, and the various available alternatives for their technical implementation. The second section familiarizes the reader with the manner in which data warehouses are managed and operated, discussing the most important operational tasks in individual sub-sections. The final section focuses on working with client tools within the ETL platform of Informatica Powercenter. This work's original contribution lies in the comparison of how the design of individual components expresses itself in the simplicity and quality of routine operations. As a matter of fact, data warehouses can only be operated as conveniently and competently as they were designed and implemented. In this thesis of mine, I primarily draw on my immediate experience and acquired knowledge from data warehouse operations at a large domestic enterprise.

Coufal, Jiří ; Ovečka, Libor (advisor) ; Matějek, Jaromír (referee)
English Abstract Possibilities of Justifying Ethical Principles for Dealing with Conceived Human Life This thesis proposes the spectrum of ethical questions connected with interventions into the conceived human life and suggests ways, how to answer these questions. Following up the limited expressions of the Scripture about life of man before nativity, it reminds the history of a conceived human life in the church tradition and its teaching. It refers to the dignity of man as a person from the philosophical and theological point of view and proposes reasons making the meaning, that the human embryo is a person already from the conception, well-founded. It considers the opinion opposition of its meaning, which comes out from empirical positions, from the reasons of its unity and its inability to propose proofs, as a mere doubt, which cannot cut out an existence of a human person from the moment of conception. Further this work deals with the real and ethical aspect of the individual interventions into the human life. Namely deals for example with the interruption, contraceptive methods, assisted reproductive technology, problems of embryonic stem cells, cloning and gene therapies. It mentions public end professional discussion, international conventions and the Czech national legislation in that field. The...

Čechová, Lucie ; Royt, Jan (referee) ; Hlaváčková, Jana Hana (advisor)
This work is an investigation of Czech Gothic murals in castle chapels in Bohemia. The key for including of a mural to the catalogue was the founding date between early middle-ages up to the year 1526; end of the hegemony of the Jagellon dynasty amongst Bohemian Kingdom. The core of the work is a comprehensive catalogue of such murals. Included are 12 localities where these murals can be found, dating through 300 years of the middle-ages. Not included in this catalogue are the three well-documented sacral spaces in Karlštejn castle, although they also fit the time period in question. It must be acknowledged that the Karlštejn chapel murals are key elements in understanding this style and era, due to their quality and influential nature. This essay sought to isolate and explore any specific typology in this class of artwork. However, it must be stated that no such unique common character exists. The murals are more a reflection of the requirements and tastes of the individual patrons; they also express the fashion of their particular eras. There are also discrepancies in quality, which vary from century to century. In the 14th century, the quality of the investigated murals cannot be compared to that of paintings in the court of the King. However, by the late 15th and 16th centuries, the quality of murals...

Magic realism and baroque literature
Urfus, Ondřej ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (referee) ; Housková, Anna (advisor)
The thesis is focused on comparison of the Magic realism with the Baroque. Common characteristics were analyzed in following literary works: the baroque play by Pedro Calderón de la Barca (1600-1681) Life is a dream (La vida es sueo) and the novel The President (El Segor Presidente) by a Nobel Price-winning Guatemalan writer, representative of Magic realism, Miguel Ángel Asturias (1899-1974). The analysis was accomplished by using the transhistorical method which allows to interconnect two trends from different time periods and sociological aspects. Suffering, distress, insecurity and neverending armed conflicts characterise the Baroque period. Beginning of dictatorship, insecurity and persecution of indigenous population create a background of the magic realism in Latin America. In the formal expressions and content we can find following Baroque features in the Magic Realism: important contrasts (opposition of darkness and light, space and exuberance, barbarian manner and mercy), animalization of characters, theatralisation of Calderon`s theatre (théâtre dans le théâtre); syncretism, lots of metamorphs and allegory, oxymorons and important textual sonority. Asturias`s novel sometimes changes into a poetic prose and therefore it is approaching Calderon's literary expression. Additional irony in Asturias`s...

Trnka, Radek ; Vančata, Václav (advisor) ; Bartoš, Hynek (referee) ; Šípek, Jiří (referee)
Two hundred and one college students (101 females, 100 males) voluntarily participated in the present study. 7 basic facial expressions of human and 10 basic facial expressions of chimpanzee were used as stimulus. Slides were presented by data-projector on a projecting screen in the experimental room, while students judged individual facial expressions. After the judgment session, students filled out the Czech short version of the Personal Attributes Questionnaire (PAQ; Spence & Helmreich, 1978). Data were assessed in general linear model with decoding accuracy for human facial expressions as a dependent variable and sex of subjects and M-F types of persons as effects. Biological sex was found to be significant for correct recognition of human facial expressions. M-F types had no significant influence to accuracy of decoding of human facial expressions. Additional t-test showed females reached higher accuracy scores for human facial expressions than males.

Anotation THE PERMANENT DIACONATE AS A PARADIGM OF ECCLESIASTIC SERVICES The Permanent diaconate, that have on the west extinction to practically for a thousand years, was restoration on the Second Vaticans council, practised on the years 1962-1965. The Personality of Ralph Vaughan Williams with a view to an Analysis of his 8th Symphony
Velická, Helena ; Bělohlávková, Petra (advisor) ; Nedělka, Michal (referee) ; Portych, Jiří (referee) ; Pecháček, Stanislav (referee)
Vaughan Williams was an extraordinary ordinary man and a very great composer who has reached during his lifetime the hearts of a very large section of his countrymen. Music was the mainspring of his being and he put all that he knew into his music. The essential importance of this composer consists in symphonic and song work. He is an author of nine symphonies, ballet, film music and five operas but the very best success reached he with his choral works. He found the basis and inspiration in the music of his own land and has devoted a good deal of energy to the collecting and arranging of folksongs. The influence of that association on his work is obvious but it is egually evident that he is far from being merely an imitator of folksong. The accents of traditional melody appeal to him but his mode of expression is his own - it is wholly personal and it makes use of passing dissonance in a way which no study of folk melodies could possibly have suggested. He was a friend and admirer of romantics but showed distaste for several favourite romantic emotions. His style is half traditional half modern and that is why his music is understandable. The assignment of my diploma thesis was to design a polyfunctional building. Function of the building is based on the requirements of the Land Use Plan Brno, cadastral zone Židenice. The aim of the design was to improve the quality of public space in the area by creating parks, urban parterre with services, parking and by bringing missing features to the area. The building is located in the centre of the plot. The main facade is oriented to the main street. Design creates new parking on the ground and in the underground garage. On the first floor are rentable spaces for commerce and services. At 2nd and 3rd floor are open space offices with the possibility of spatial variability solutions. Architectural expression of the building is simple, consisting as a compact mass with parterre subsided, useful in terms of energetical sustainability. The facade of the building is made as a combination of a transparent double skin facade and opaque ventilated facade with fibre cement panels. Structural system is a precast concrete frame with a cast-in-place reinforced concrete shear core. Foundation is made as a reinforced concrete pads and strips.
