The bachelor thesis contains commented translation of two chapters of a German book called Verführt. Manipuliert. Pervertiert. Die Gesellschaft in der Falle modischer Irrlehren. Ursachen - Folgen - Auswege (Christa Meves: Seduced. Manipulated. Perverted. Gräfelfing/München: Verlag Resch, 20074, p. 50-88) and a commentary of the translation. The first part of the translation deals with men, their role in society and crisis of masculinity in the last decades. The second part, related to the first one, focuses on women and discusses crucial problems in our society. In her analysis of the society based on the author's own wide professional experience and scientific evidence, Meves presents not only overwhelming facts but also solutions for dealing with the crisis of European society. Further, the thesis includes a translation analysis according to Ch. Nord, A. Popovič and J. Levý and addresses particular translation problems and tendencies, followed by appropriate translation procedures and strategies in the translation process. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to translate a German non-fiction text into Czech and to provide it with a professional commentary. The translated text consists of the first two sub-chapters of the historic introduction to the publication "Orthodoxie und Katholizismus in Jugoslawien 1945-1991: ein serbisch-kroatischer Vergleich". The first part of the commentary includes a translation analysis of the original text according to Christiane Nord which means an analysis of intratextual and extratextual factors. Based on the analysis the translation method is deduced. In the next chapter, different kinds of translation problems are presented along with their solutions. The commentary is concluded by a typology of translation shifts.

Cílem semestrální práce “Elektrotechnika – komentovaný překlad” je překlad českého odborného textu do angličtiny, který slouží jako studijní materiál pro studenty elektrotechnologie, a provést komparativní analýzu originálu a přeloženého textu. Zdrojový text je rozdělen do devíti kapitol, z kterých bylo vybráno několik výňatků na nichž byla následně provedena analýza z lingvistického hlediska. Každý z nich se zabývá jinou oblastí elektrotechniky a použivá k tomu odlišnou škálu odborných výrazů. Tato bakalářská práce take nabízí základní teorii zabývající se překladem textů psaných ve stylu vědy a techniky.

The aim of my thesis was to translate into Czech the first twenty standard pages from the chapter La la la Through a New Lens: Music Talks to America by John McWhorter, and provide the translation with a commentary. The commentary comprises four parts: The first part is a translation analysis, presenting extra- and intratextual factors of the source text, and outlining conception of the translation; the second part contents typology of problems and challenges, consisting in expression and word non-equivalence, cultural non-equivalence, and translation of specific features of the source text; the third part summarizes the types of shifts occuring in the translation, and the last part describes the translation method. Commentary is also included. The introduction contains basic information about the translated text. The first chapter presents the translation itself and it is followed by the commentary of the translation. The commentary analyzes major difficulties encountered during the process of translation. The bachelor's dissertation, commented translation Selected paintings from the Museum Picasso in Paris (Picasso au musée Picasso, Tableaux choisis) consists of a practical and a theoretical part. The practical one is presented by selected chapters from a French educative and instructional publication focused on the interpretation of several Pablo Picasso's paintings exhibited in the Paris Museum Picasso that preserves an important collection of Picasso's works. The theoretical part is formed by a commentary on translation in which the author starts by analysing the initial text. Then she continues by studying the process of translation, giving examples of individual translation problems and explaining different choices of solution. Despite of atemporality and universality of the text, the author deliberates on the cultural and social differences between the French and the Czech recipient of the text. At the end, the author tries to give arguments for encouraging the adoption of certain French stylistic usages.

This translation bachelor thesis consists of a practical and a theoretical part. The practical part is the translation of a chosen chapter from the book Petit Atlas des Espces Menacées, written by a French biologist and publicist Yves Sciama. The theoretical one is a commentary on the translation which engages in analysis of the original text - it studies the character of the author, the intended reader, the edition in which the book was released, etc. Next the commentary describes the typology of translational problems on the lexical, syntactic, stylistic, grammatical, and text level. It is followed by a discussion over the method of translation and characteristics of the used translational techniques (transposition, modulation, concentration) supported by concrete examples. It is concluded by a description of graphical design of the text.
