Passive in Legal language in German and Czech. Contrastive analysis
Pekárková, Ludmila ; Zeman, Dalibor (advisor) ; Martschini, Elisabeth (referee)
The presented diploma thesis is concerned with German-Czech comparison of the passive voice in legal language. In the theoretical part, the issue of German and Czech passive voice is explained through technical secondary literature. One can find there their basic forms differentiation, the way of their formation, their use in sentences and other basic characteristics. Furthermore, this part introduces the issue of technical language as the current area of today's linguistics. The theoretical findings are employed in the practical part, namely on the Maastricht contract. Firstly, the passive of the German variant of the document is analyzed followed by the analysis of the Czech version. Both of these parts are the starting point of the contrasting exploration of the two language varieties of the mentioned legal document. Czech alternatives to their German passive voice constructions were found, following these three criteria: substitution of German passive voice by Czech active voice, semantic dissonance between the two variants, and the absence of certain passive constructions in the Czech contract. At the end of the thesis, there is an evaluation of the following four hypotheses which were stated at the beginning. The first three hypotheses, which are concerned with matters such as the superiority...

Contrastive analysis of passive voice in Norwegian and Czech
Grossová, Aneta ; Štajnerová, Petra (advisor) ; Dubec, Pavel (referee)
This thesis describes the various uses of the passive voice in Norwegian and Czech. The theoretical part defines the category of voice and describes different ways of expressing the passive voice in both languages. The practical part comprises two largely independent chapters. The first one uses text corpora to explore the ratio between the active and passive voice as well as the frequency of different passive constructions in technical, journalistic and literary styles. The second chapter focuses mainly on methods of translating the passive voice used in Norwegian literature to Czech; however, it also touches the topic of the overall frequency of the passive voice in translation.
Axiological modality in French
Švidrnochová, Lenka ; Nádvorníková, Olga (advisor) ; Štichauer, Jaroslav (referee)
v anglickém jazyce This thesis focuses on the analyses of the axiological modality of the group of emotional verbs in French. After defining the basic terms associated with the axiological modality and enumerating the means of its expression, the syntactically and semantically homogenous group of emotional verbs is specified (affectionner, aimer, chérir, adorer, idolâtrer, détester, haïr, abhorrer, exécrer) and then put to the quantitative analysis based on the corpora FRANTEXT, Araneum Francogallicum Maius and l'Est républicain. The following qualitative analysis is based on the parallel corpus InterCorp. On the basis of dictionary definitions and contrastive research, the axiological scale of the examined words is formed and then verified by the native speakers via questionnaires. In the end, the factors influencing the axiological value of the verb aimer are investigated.
Linguistic Elements of Expressivity in French to Czech Simultaneous
Herák, Jakub ; Čeňková, Ivana (advisor) ; Sládková, Miroslava (referee)
The central focus of this Master's thesis is to describe the ways the elements of linguistic expressivity used in political speeches are transformed in French-to-Czech simultaneous interpreting. In the introductory part of the present thesis, we provide a summary of previous research on the means of expressivity in political speeches, which is completed by a description of the process of simultaneous interpreting. In this way, we intend to define possibilities of transfer of expressive elements in the French-to-Czech language combination. The second part consists of an in-depth contrastive analysis of original French and Czech political speeches followed by a comparison of the former with their interpreted versions. In the third step, we compared the original Czech speeches with interpretations. Using our own methodology, we assessed collected data and came to the conclusion that in French-to- Czech simultaneous interpreting, expressivity rate decreases. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
The Colour "black" in phrasems. A contrastive analysis.
Lukašiková, Evženie ; Hejhalová, Věra (advisor) ; Šemelík, Martin (referee)
The following thesis deals with the topic of the contrast of phrasemes with a constituent black in German and Czech. The first, theoretical part of the thesis seeks to outline the basic terms as well as problematic points of the phraseological domain, which are of importance for the practical part. This concerns the phraseological terminology in general as well as the terminology of the contrastive phraseology. The practical part elaborates on the contrast of five phrasemes, picked from the Deutsch- tschechisches Wörterbuch der Phraseologismen und festgeprägten Wendungen (2010). These phrasemes have been looked up in DeReKo and InterCorp and subsequently analysed from the morpho-syntactic and semantic point of view. The result of this analysis should provide the answer to the question of whether the translation variants in the dictionary correspond with the actual written language usage or whether there is a discrepancy between those two areas.
The Construction pour + Infinitive in French and Its Equivalents in Czech
Dubišarová, Zdislava ; Nádvorníková, Olga (advisor) ; Štichauer, Jaroslav (referee)
v anglickém jazyce: This bachelor thesis deals with the infinitive prepositional construction "pour + infinitive" in the french language whilst taking in an account of its czech equivalents. After defining the basics terms (infinitive, subject of the infinitive, syntactic functions of the infinitive, non-finite dependent clauses) it watches closely the infinitive construction "pour + infinitive" in the function of adverbial and it`s semantical interpretations it could have. The second part of the thesis is focused on corpus analysis of this construction. The analysis of the data from linguistic corpuses enables us to determine the frequention of the examined construction in various genres and determine some of its basic quantitative features (lexical occupation, morphological characteristics etc.). This basic analysis enables us to identify the possible specifications of samples of the occurence from paralel corpus InterCorp, from which we make a detailed analysis of the factors that can interfere with the semantical interpretation of given construction and the selection of its translation counterpart in the czech language, where a similar structure does not exist in the language system. Klíčová slova: infinitive, purpose, preposition pour, InterCorp, corpus, contrastive analysis
