Czech reflection of Tymoshenko case and its media representation

The main theme of this bachelor thesis is the media representation of the case of politician Yulia Tymoshenko in three selected printed daily newspapers - Czech papers Lidové noviny and Haló noviny and British paper The Guardian in the period 2011- 2013. The Czech papers were chosen intentionally on the basis of its political orientation. Left-wing oriented Haló noviny where was assumed that would sympathize with Russia and Lidové noviny as pro-western representative. Where was expected that will take Tymoshenko side. Through a quantitative content analysis of a total of 204 news and opinion papers, I evaluate what topics this media put to the forefront of interest and how objectively it is presented to readers. A database of individual contributions with the coding of the monitored characteristics related to the topics, the author's expression, the objectivity and the contribution sources is created for the purposes of the thesis. The evaluation and interpretation of the results takes place both descriptively within each journal and comparatively. Media Represantation of Resettlement in Czech Republic and USA

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to compare the media representation of resettlement of syrian refugees, as one of the possible solutions to the migration crisis. According to the social constructivism theory, media are understood to be one of the most important factors in the process of constructing reality, and when it comes to political topics, their role is even more significant, as most of the time, media representation of political issues is the only option to acquire information about them. The so called migration crisis with its proposed solutions is one of the most common agendas set by mass media, the most discussed solution being resettlement. Thought resettlement is globally ​applicable​, its history and extension differs throughout the world, so its media representation is expected to be different. Media representation of civil society organizations

This thesis introduces media representations of civil society organizations (CSOs) through quantitative content analysis of four dailies (HN, LN, MFD and Právo). The aim is to analyze and describe CSOs media representations in relation to media elements that characterize these representations, as well as through space and priority, organizations and actors that are associated with. The selected method allows the comparison of media representations for particular newspapers. The study builds on a social-constructivist paradigm, focusing on the agenda-setting theory, gatekeeping and news values. Thesis also discusses specifics of the CSOs and non-profit logic in relation to media and journalistic logic and their influence on the final CSOs media representations, including potential nonprofit dilemmas. The media representations are strongly determined by regionality and relationship with other sectors. CSOs are presented through positive and uncontroversial theme of good deeds. Regionality is together with social themes the most frequent topics associated with CSOs.
The White House Presents: The Media Image of Barack Obama

The diploma thesis The White House Presents: The Media Image of Barack Obama examines the media presentation of the President of the United States, Barack Obama, through the official media channel of the White House. Five video recordings of President Obama's speeches are analyzed with a focus on linguistic, visual and auditory sign systems with the use of the qualitative semiotic content analysis. Before the analysis itself, an explanation of theoretical terms related mostly to the representation of reality is provided. On these grounds the analysis is then approached as a description of different means of achieving media construction of reality, to which both the President himself and the White House Office of Communications contribute. This Office is in charge of the content of the above-mentioned channel. To broaden the context, general information about the functioning of the President's media communication is included. Transformation of the media image of Stanislav Gross

This thesis deals with the changes in the media representation of a politician in selected Czech press, depending on various social and political events. As a source for analysis were chosen public activities of Stanislav Gross. The research focuses on three main events in the life of this politician. The first period is the period after the appointment of Gross to the Prime Minister. The next is the period after the publication of information about the dubious origin of his property and the last is the period after his death. The analysis is based on material from two Czech dailies - MF DNES and Právo - and it includes a comparison of the ways of informing of selected events in particular periodicals. Quantitative and qualitative research methods of media content were used for the analysis. The qualitative part focuses on filling in the stereotypical roles. The resulting media image was indeed very strongly influenced by mentioned facts and tone of articles and thematic composition of news associated with Stanislav Gross was changing. Operation Protective Edge in selected french and czech daily newspapers

The diploma thesis explores how the selected Czech and French media inform about the Israeli- Palestinian conflict using the operation Protective Edge, from summer 2014, as an example. Theory of the thesis is based on the relationship between power and media in society and examines reciprocal impact between political and media power. Two national daily newspapers from each country were chosen for the analysis. These two newspapers also present opposite poles of the political spectrum in each country. Media contents of the daily newspapers Mladá fronta DNES, Právo, Le Figaro and Le Monde are analysed with combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. This methodology helps to create a comprehensive image of the conflict represented by the researched media. Quantitative analysis aims to describe the balance of the coverage and differences between French and Czech media in context with the representation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The research also focuses on the impact of the foreign policy of France and the Czech Republic on media contents of the analysed media. Qualitative analysis works with smaller sample of texts and aims to present the representation of the war by the French and Czech media.
Media image of migration in the Czech media

This thesis aims to prove or disprove the hypothesis that the media (Mlada fronta DNES and Lidové noviny), owned by a group of MAFRA, creates the media image of a migratory crisis consistent with the preview of the owner Andrej Babis. This thesis examines articles in the newspapers using quantitative content analysis on this topic appearing between March- December 2015. The theoretical section consists of two chapters; first dealing with the media image and the design of the media mechanism and second, introducing the terminology of migration and migration policy. The Thesis also includes the contextual information, capturing and describing the European migration crisis on the basis of these findings and constructed in the design research. The analytical part incorporates knowledge of quantitative analysis and research positions A. Babis. The conclusion answers the research questions that are for the purpose of writing this paper. This work is based on the relevance of the topic and the possible transformation of attitudes of political parties in the coming elections. Czech far-right in massmedia and in public opinion

6 Abstract This thesis deals with the presentation of the Czech far-right in mass media and in connection with selected chapters of public opinion in 2011-2013. The theoretical part of the thesis consists of three parts, a part that presents the far-right in Czech and international context, a part representing the relationship of the far-right and mass media, and a part describing the situation of research of far-right in the Czech Republic. The second part of the thesis analyses the profile of the far-right in the media through content analysis and the reflection of far-right in public opinion using secondary data analysis. The results indicate far-right gains entry into the media content through the use of protest activities. Strong themes of the far-right agenda resonate in the Czech public opinion, but at the same time the Czech public opinion perceives the far-right as a serious security risk and a threat to democracy, which makes it an unacceptable alternative.
Media Analysis of the Allotment Gardens and Gardening in Czech Daily Press

Mediální obraz zahrádkářských kolonií ve vybraných českých denících Abstract Abstract The aim of this thesis is the media presentation of gardening allotments phenomena in Czech Republic. The work is in a connection with a series of thesis published during previous years on Social and Cultural Ecology department of Faculty of Humanities, Charles Univerisity. These thesis were focused on qualitatative case studies research of garden allotments. Aim of this theis is a revelation of garden allotments image, based on processing of czech daily press articles mentioning allotment gardening. First, theoretical, part of the thesis is organized into four chapters: hermeneutics, allotment gardening, media and sustainable development. Each of the chapters provides a context of the main purpose of the work. Methodological anchor and the research and its results itself follow on at the third part of this thesis.
The comparison of nuclear power image in media before and after Fukushima Daiici nuclear disaster.

This diploma thesis focuses on the changes in the media image of nuclear power in Ceska Televize, which is the only public television in Czech Republic. The study uses a quantitative research method, content analysis, to find out the changes of nuclear power representation in media and to compare changes of news construction mechanisms in the period of two years - one year before and one year after the Japanese nuclear power plant Fukushima Daiichi disaster. The accident started on 11th March 2011 and there is a short description of the situation in Japan at the beginning of the thesis. The theoretical part of thesis serves as an overview of basic information on principles of the media studies theory and mechanisms of news construction (work with information sources, the news value concept, agenda setting, the framing concept), which is also shown from the environmental point of view. The study also focuses on the nuclear power image in the socio-political field and there are some more information about the nuclear power development and status in Czech Republic. The analytical part of thesis examines the media attention to nuclear power, which was developed in the analysed period.
