Development of the Czech mobile communications magazines market

The bachelor work deals with magazines on mobile communications that were published in the Czech Republic between 1996-2011. This bachelor work focuses on 8 unique titles published during that period. The first part is devoted to the development of the telecommunication market as well as the mobile phone market. One of the important parts involves a description of the published titles. The magazine called Mobility was the longest-published magazine on mobile communication and therefore, it is discussed in more details and in addition quantitative content analysis is also provided in this study. Other titles are briefly introduced. For all magazines the additional information such as year of publishing, publisher's name and sample of cover page is provided. The development of the market for mobile communication is described in three time periods. These periods are as follows: from 1996 to 2003 when only two titles were published, from 2004 to 2008 when all monitored titles were published, from 2008 to 2011 when only magazine Mobility was published. The final section deals with the development of printed and online media and compares the readership and audience size of these two platforms. The bachelor thesis titled "Development of Printed Media in Italy in the Years 1943-1950" is an analysis of the historical conditions of media publishing in Italy after the defeat of fascism. It is an attempt to reconstruct the main events that took place in printed media, particularly newspaper, in the period after the fall of fascism and the end of the Second World War. The thesis maps the relationship between the media and political and economic power. It discusses the system of printed media and who and under what conditions could work as a journalist at that time. There is also a description of the methods used for the organisation of journalists. The thesis starts with a brief historical overview of the social situation in the era of the beginning, rise and fall of the totalitarian regime. After the defeat of fascism and Nazism, Italy was facing the difficult task of dealing with its own past and establishing new rules. The attempt to cleanse the society and media (known as the "purification of journalism") was a long and complicated process. Presentation of chosen tv series from period of normalization in magazines czechoslovak television and television

This thesis examines how two magazines from normalization era (Czechoslovak television and Television) wrote about three chosen TV Series (The Thirty Adventures of Major Zeman, Good Water and Gottwald) when they were launched on the screen. Not only noticing topical and genre range of the texts, thesis also judges degree of propaganda in unusual journalistic environment (state press writes about state television). Thesis notes viewers'opinions apart from official texts. They were also published on magazines. Last but not least, thesis compares media environment of those days with temporary one. It notes details from normalization that are not supposed to work today. Theoretical and historical view on Czechoslovak television's operation during normalization goes before concrete research. A lot of media literature is used. Thesis confronts opinions of censored press in normalization with more objective state. This is applied both on evaluations or describing of series and on writing about real historical events. Therefore, two series that describes historiy from communist point of view were chosen - The Thirty Adventures of Major Zeman and Gottwald.

The aim of this thesis is based on historical and archival documents to describe social life of Sofie Podlipská. In the first part of this thesis is described the life of Sofie Podlipská. The further part is focused on her publications and translations. In the main part of the bachelor thesis I am concentrated on her work in associations and lecture activities in some representative woman institutions.
Magazines for preschool children during the period 1990-2000

Title: Magazines for preschool children during the period 1990 - 2000 Author: Kateřina Veitová Supervisor: Mgr. Radim Wolák The thesis deals with analysis of market with magazines for preschool children between years 1990 and 2000. The first part describes the transformation of media environment and conditions for issuing periodicals. Also monitors all the titles that were issued during the period, and notes the impact that the publishing business conditions changes had on them. In the second part, the thesis focuses on the development of selected titles in terms of external and internal characters in the specified period and compares these titles with each other. For the purpose of the analysis were selected titles: Bobik, Medvídek Pú, Méďa Pusík, Mickey Mouse, Kačer Donald and Sluníčko, there were analyzed every two copies of each year in the period from 1990 to 2000 when the magazines were published. To achieve our goals, the qualitative research methods and study of relevant literature were used. Cultural functions of the lifestyle media

The graduation thesis Cultural functions of the lifestyle media is divided into theoretical and analytical part. The first part of theoretical work tries to define the concept of lifestyle, lifestyle media and their cultural functions. It also deals with an overview of the historical development of lifestyle magazines in our country and at abroad. Last but not least, work in theory attempts to define the impact and effects of the lifestyle media, specifically lifestyle magazines on the value system and behavior patterns of their readers. In the second part of the work is devoted to empirical research. Through quantitative content analysis I am trying to figure out how is differed the content of less expensiver and exclusiver, woman's and man's lifestyle magazines. The analysis showed that in lifestyle magazines targeted at different groups of readers are differences in the presentation of material and social values and in the presentation of gender roles. Research results are consistent with the assumption that lifestyle magazines have an impact on consumer lifestyles of their readers. This dissertation is the very first scholarly text to bring a wider perspective on the genesis of Czech sport journalism, starting with its beginnings in the latter half of the 1800's and extending to the year of 1918, when this profession became an independent branch of the newspaper business. Given the paucity of original literature, the present work is based primarily on the study of period newspapers and archival materials, employing mainly the direct and the indirect methods of historiography. The main purpose of it was to describe the formation of the discipline of sport journalism in the broader context of the Czech society, sports and media, rather than regarding it as an independent, isolated process. The constituent parts of this dissertation, which renders the dawn of Czech sport journalism, include the most important titles of the day as well as the key personalities in the publishing and journalism of the period, the issue of sport reportage within the established political press, and also the genesis of the professions of sport journalist and sport photographer. The chapters that place the main theme within a wider historical context compare the brief description of the evolution of sport journalism in the Czech lands to the origins of sport journalism in other countries (Great Britain, USA,...
Rural section of the Bohemia bewspapers up to 1850s

The bachelor thesis "Rural section of the Bohemia newspapers up to 1850s" analyses the thematic content and news frequency from the countryside and places that the German written newspapers Bohemia published during the introduced period. In the beginning the thesis describes the historical, cultural and political connection in the Czech countries, shows the bourgeoisie life and its customs and social changes. It introduces the media area of this period. It focuses closely on progress of the Bohemia newspapers, its content, interest and activity. It focuses on the rural section of Bohemia, which started to appear in a separate section from the year 1837. The quantitative analysis of the rural section describes the gradual frequency and the changes of the medial contents depending on the political and social situation.

Thesis "Transformation of military periodicals since 1989 (for example Obrany lidu and other titles of Naše Vojsko)" discusses the armed services press after 1945, and captures his transformation, inter alia, to reflect changes in the overall social situation during the next decade. The method of work is a historical analysis. This thesis is primarily focused and deals with the establishment of periodicals and the way of state institutions controlling, especially the Ministry of National Defence and the Chief political administration. The aim is to create an overview of army press and, by selected periodicals, to monitor changes occurring during their existence. Attention is also devoted to economic production company - Naše Vojsko (Magnet-Press). This thesis also reflects the transformation of army press which came after the events of November 1989 and which brought a massive reduction in army press. The text is given more attention to newspapers and magazines, the development of more reflective of social change in our country such as in Obrana lidu, Lidová armáda or Československý voják, more narrowly focused than the professional military journals. Body culture represents a typical example of sociological phenomenon which has been a subject of mass commercialization for nearly several decades. At certain stage of this process, new magazines of special interest were been created with focus on a specific concept of the physical culture. Their content coverage ranged from fitness, strength training, bodybuilding, health lifestyle, to physical exercise in general. The diploma thesis "The body culture phenomenon in Czech special interests magazines" aims to survey an origin and evolution of such magazines in the Czech Republic and tries to shed light on how physical culture represented by increasing popularity of fitness activities among general public had been reflected in this segment of media production. While analyzing three Czech magazines, Svět kulturistiky, FITNESS and MUSCLE&FITNESS, the thesis examines how the mass popularization and commercialization of physical culture have affected a content structure of the magazines. The research focuses on selection of topics, target audience, use of language and graphic design.
