Calcium homeostasis and modulation of nociceptive synaptic transmission
Sojka, David
This study was designed to improve our knowledge regarding mechanisms of nociceptive signaling at spinal cord level. One of the forms of spinal cord synaptic transmission modulation is central sensitization, a manifestation of synaptic plasticity at spinal cord level, which was found to be present at many chronic pain syndromes. This study deals mainly with a development of calcium imaging technique with a final goal to study mechanisms of central sensitization in vitro on population of dorsal horn neurons. We have analyzed synaptically evoked intracellular Ca changes as a result of dorsal root stimulation in a superficial dorsal horn area in spinal cord slices and found two types of Ca responses: one synchronized with electrical stimulation and a second one, delayed response due to Ca release from internal stores. The delayed Ca release was not previously shown to be present in these neurons and it was not dependent on activation of ionotropic glutamatergic receptors, suggesting involvement of metabotropic receptor pathway. The presence of this delayed type of Ca response could have a significant role in the induction of some types of chronic pain syndromes, since intracellular calcium increase is thought to be a key trigger point in spinal cord neurons sensitization. An important role in neuronal calcium...

Storytelling in images
Husák, Jiří ; Dvořák, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Kornatovský, Jiří (referee)
The thesis deals with history, methods and principles of narration in fine arts since the beginning of history to present days. The problems of stories in pictures are parted to two categories; the inner and outer plane of the story. Each of these narrative planes operate with different procedures. Between these procedures belong compositions, dynamics, rhythm, the usage of symbols, indexes and icons but also the amount of stylization and naturalism. Contemporaneous progressive artistic methods such as comics are the subject of analyses right next to the historical methods of sequential image narration. The thesis observes the methods of composing, working with time and use of the so called gutter as an integral part of the juxtaposed sequences. The analysis' findings are summarised in the personal author production and the didactic evaluation of certain narrative procedures.

Determination of Snow Cover Area from RADAR imagery
Součková, Jana ; Potůčková, Markéta (advisor) ; Brodský, Lukáš (referee)
This thesis deals with snow cover mapping by using time-series of SAR images of the sensors ENVISAT ASAR and TerraSAR-X. The methodology is based on the so-called Nagler's algorithm, which is based on determination of the change of absorption of radar signal due to the liquid water content in the snow cover. The resulting ratio image is classified into the areas with wet snow or without it according to the selected threshold value. The results are compared with the maps of snow cover derived from MODIS optical data and with data from meteorological stations of CHMI. The main aims of this work are to suggest most suitable conditions (time of the year, weather) for acquisition of reference images, to find the change of the threshold value with respect the chosen reference image and the type of land cover. The same methodology should then be applied on the radar data of shorter wavelength. The obtained results will be further used for improving the methodology of snow cover mapping from SAR data in the Czech Republic.

Multicultural Education as Philosophical problem
Morvayová, Petra ; Pelcová, Naděžda (advisor) ; Horák, Josef (referee) ; Bendl, Stanislav (referee)
The thesis deals with multicultural education definition and practice antinomies and with paradoxes arising from its bases that are destabilizing its concept and disputing its potential to fulfil the aims that are proposed by. Our analysis insists on findings and approaches coming from philosophical, philosophical antropology perspectives, from philosophy of social science, sociology of knowledge, theories issue from social and cultural antropology, political philosophy and post-structuralist philosophy of language that takes language as an instrument or image of understanding and word sense as an intertextual. The aim of this text is to introspect terms, definitions, constructs and optics of multicultural education concepts from the point of view of critical philosophy of education. Multimedia Overview of Synoptic Meteorology
Pokorný, Michal ; Žák, Michal (advisor) ; Bednář, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis contains an overview of the synoptic meteorology, from the so called Norwegian meteorological school and its interlacing with more modern concepts. It deals with air masses, atmospheric fronts and pressure systems. Further, the overview of latter conceptual models of atmospheric fronts is presented. It shows using of satellite and radar measurements in synoptical praxis, as well. The first chapter introduces formation of air masses and apportionment of air masses. It notices transformation of air masses, too. The second chapter deals with basic clasification of atmospheric fronts. Fronts are shown with help of satelite and radar images. Creation and development of pressure systems follows.

Monetary reform 1953 and its reflection in Czech society
Ďoubalová, Iva ; Jakubec, Ivan (referee) ; Jančík, Drahomír (advisor)
This text deals to the topic of monetary reform which took place in Czechoslovakia in 1st June 1953, which was closely associated with cancellation of fixed market. Except chapters about economical reasons, preparation and rules of monetary reform author mainly describes reactions of people to it and social effects which reform meant. Due to information from partial studies about this theme and data from National archive in Prague author made image about ways of protests against monetary reform and its range. Strikes and demonstrations were the most widespread ones. They broke out in almost all bigger cities. It was the first opened protest in the country east of so called iron curtain. However, it is important to mention that discontent was economically motivated, political demands were only rare. Monetary reform meant also social change for most of the people in Czechoslovakia. Christovová, Lucie ; Lábová, Alena (referee) ; Němcová Tejkalová, Alice (advisor)
Bachelor thesis deals with the medial reflection of Tomáš Cikrt. This man worked since 2006 until 2009 as a press agent of the Ministry of Health and during this period became well-known and distinctive member of the Czech political scene. His personality mismatched with the typical conception of a beautiful but dull press agent in several ways - Tomáš Cikrt was educated in the medical field he was speaking for, he did his job with great assignment and mainly he was physically handicapped. This thesis wants to examine whether and how did all these characteristics affect the way the media wrote about him. On the example of six Czech daily newspaper Blesk, Aha!, Hospodářské noviny, Mladá fronta DNES, Lidové noviny a Právo it explores what was typical for Cikrt's medial reflection, whether and why the chosen journals differed in their approaches to him, which aspects had the major influence over his medial image and whether there were any stereotypical evaluations regarding his personality. The author of this thesis presumes to find differences between the approach of tabloids and the so-called serious newspaper, especially in emphasizing Cikrt's physical handicap. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first one deals with the theory of representation and stereotyping, the second one is analytical and...

Zatlkajová, Katarína ; Housková, Anna (referee) ; Vydrová, Hedvika (advisor)
The main topic of the dissertation was to study the different forms of expression of the jungle in the novel The Vortex. First of all, the novel was incorporated into the history of literature as regional novel. Afterwards we analysed the moments of author's life that have some influence in The Vortex, specifically when he went to jungle, as one of the Committee, that had to establish the border line between Colombia and Venezuela. It was done the analysis of the novel, focusing on: frame narrative, narrators, structure, themes and finally characters. The frame of the novel is a card sent to a minister by J. E. Rivera. The novel is divided in three parts however we concentrate our attention only in the second and the third one because they take place in the jungle. There are various narrators although the main one is Arturo Cova, who is a poet, and Clemente Silvas voice has an important role too. The main themes are the romantic story, death, violence and journey, that is a line going through the whole novel and has different types: wandering, searching, etc. The importance of death and violence is unified with the jungle's influence. Lastly, we studied the images of the jungle. On the one hand, the jungle is the background where the story is developing; on the other hand, we can observe the jungle's...
