Target groups and their definition on the example of the City library in Nymburk

This bachelor thesis is focused on patron segmentation in public libraries in the context of marketing communication between the library and users. Thesis overviews the marketing theory of segmentation, which then transfers into an environment of public libraries and describes several important segments. The practical part consists of a case study on the example of Nymburk City library , which describes the selected target groups of this library and how to work with them. Education of Librarians in the Central Bohemia Region

(in English) The aim of this thesis is to introduce the system of further professional education of librarians in Central Bohemian Region. After an introduction to the topic, a definition of legislative framework follows. The thesis also describes terminology including its development, the end of the chapter presents a list of possible funding means. The next section briefly describes the history of further professional education of librarians in Central Bohemian Region from 1960s to 2005. The main analytical section acquaints the reader in detail with contemporary educating schemes, their methods and forms in context of individual target groups and with particular topics, as well. This section works with the period between 2006 and 2012. Following section brings an outline of possible further education of librarians. It contemplates possible sources of important and essential topics. A survey between methodical workers has been chosen as a basis for determining possible future forms of professional education. The end of the thesis summarizes options as well as limitations of further professional education of library workers in Central Bohemian Region.
Internet, public libraries and information policy in Cuba

The aim of this thesis is to present the development and current state of information policy and public libraries in Cuba. The first part of thesis outlines historical and political development in Cuba since the beginning of the revolution in 1959 to the present and introduces the development of selected areas of information policy on the island. The second part analyzes the expansion of information and communication technologies, including Internet and its censorship. The last part of thesis summarizes historical development and current state of public libraries and partially librarianship.
Non-library entities involved in information education of users of public libraries

The diploma thesis deals with non-library entities that collaborate with public libraries on the deepening of information literacy of library users. The theoretical part presents legislation and important documents that are connected with this topic. The following is an explanation of the terms that occur at work. The main part of the text is a research section that describes in detail used methods, a content analysis and a questionnaire survey, and their results. The conclusion provides selected examples of this cooperation in Czech and foreign public libraries.
Political and educational role of public libraries in the 50 and 60 years in Ostrava region

Political and educational role of public libraries in the 50 and 60 years in Ostrava region The thesis is focused on cultural politics of the communist regime in the 50s and 60s of the 20th century in relation to public libraries. Based on archival materials the main attention is paid to the situation in the Ostrava region Cultural policy was aimed in two directions. First through repression, when citizens were banned from access to ideas and works that the regime considered as harmful or objectionable. This activity was implemented by censorship of printed materials, sorting of collections and persecution of opponents. Second way to filling the gaps after undesirable denied authors by pro-regime publications, written in the style of socialist realism. Public libraries were using different sorts of methods how to bring readers to this new literature and how to bring them up to be loyal and conscious builders of socialism - e.g. discussions and reader's conferences, literature contests and polls, Fucik's badge, Month of books and so on. The focus is also on libraries promotion of actions and activities supporting the policy of the Party and the government, such as celebrations of party anniversary, recruitment in mining, atheistic education of readers etc.
The Dutch system of public libraries on a specific example

(in English) This bachelor's thesis deals with the systems of public libraries in the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. The system description considers legal framework, way to finance and description of libraries' system structures. General system description is completed with the analysis of particular libraries. Public libraries in Dronten and in Vsetín are mainly described according to the scope of their collections, number of readers and their offer of services. Both systems and both libraries are compared to each other, with the consideration of their differences in system structure and current library laws. The compartment of libraries in Dronten and in Vsetín is completed with a description of their national system's influence on their general operation. Information education of children at public libraries in the Karlovy Vary region focused on pupils of the 2nd stage of primary schools (grades 6 - 9)

The subject matter of the B.A. thesis is information education of children at public libraries. Its analytical part, which is the main focus of the thesis, describes information education of pupils attending the 2nd stage of primary schools (grades 6 - 9) as it is currently provided at public libraries in the Karlovy Vary region. It also outlines further possible development in the area of information education. The aim of its theoretical part is no more than to supply the thesis with a viable framework and to introduce readers into the area of information education. It explains the basic concepts used in the field, such as information literacy and information education itself. The role of libraries in life-long education and learning is mention in the given context and competencies of a children librarian are discussed. The thesis also includes data about education of librarians in the Karlovy Vary region and gives an example of good practice in information education at Public library in Loket.
Environments and projects that support children's reading

The thesis deals with a support of children's reading. The work is aimed to factors and actors influencing reading education. The first part solves theoretical definition and the meaning of reading. Primarily there are explained two important terms related to the topic - reading and a reader. Further it is proceeding by attention given to different phases of reading education before and during school attendance. Primarily three environments influencing reading literacy were observed. These include family, school and public library. Furthermore, national representative projects supporting reading primarily in libraries are shortly presented at this thesis as well. The second part is focused on the Municipal Library of Prague, specifically Smichov branch and its activities. In this part are charted various programmes for children. Repeated activities for parents with children or for children alone are observed. Also, events for groups of preschool and school children are described. The important part of presented work deals with survey of cooperation between Smichov branch and local schools. The research results are to determine practical experience of teachers from these schools in activities of Smichov branch and in their cooperation with this library.

This bachelor's thesis seeks to analyze, describe, and evaluate the current state of reference services at the Music Department of the Municipal Library of Prague. Within the scope of this work, the author will perform: - A basic exploration of the subject matter in terms of the available literature and other information; the research of selected sources and gathering of relevant information "on site", at the MLP building, will result in a brief presentation of key terms and principles pertaining to reference services, with a particular focus on the established practice of such services where they are associated with public music libraries. - An analysis and detailed description of the reference services on offer at the Music Department of the MLP, which will be presented in the main part of the thesis (the role of these services within the overall context of the reference service system at the MLP as a whole, and of cooperating music libraries across the Czech Republic; the operational coverage of these services in terms of storage and work space, financial funding, and manpower; reference stocks and resources; typical users of these services and types of requests; records of requests and their assessment; etc.). Audio and audiovisual documents in the Municipal library of Prague

The aim of this thesis is to present the collection of audio and audiovisual documents in the Municipal Library of Prague (further MLP). In the first chapter there are cited legislative documents which are directly related to the issue of lending of the mentioned materials. The next chapter presents audio and audiovisual documents and their history. The third chapter, which is the main one, deals with mentioned documents in the MLP; library processes (acquisition of documents, cataloguing) and possibilities of searching them on web or on-line are described there too. In addition, some special projects of the MLP (circulating collections, digitizing of gramophone records) are described there too.
