Štenglová, Marie ; Štoll, Martin (advisor) ; Lokšík, Martin (referee)
Marie Štenglová, 19. 5. 2017 Abstract The diploma thesis Variety of Genres within Czech Internet Televisions analyses the programme of three major internet televisions in the Czech Republic - Stream, Aktuálně.TV and Playtvak. The aim of the thesis is to detect the differences between the programmes offered by internet televisions and by conventional televisions. One of the principal questions is whether these differences are caused by the specific character of internet television as an online medium, or by the change in the genre perception in general. The programmes dealt with in the thesis are serials A bude hůř and Semestr, a talk show Kafe s Jolanou, a lifestyle magazine Telebrity, and cooking shows Šéfkuchařovy recepty and MENU domů. These formats, belonging to fictional or factual TV, are analysed from the narrative, semiotic, and visual points of view and are compared with each other and also with similar formats in conventional televisions. The theoretical part of the thesis describes Czech internet televisions in the era of media convergence. The research part reveals that the form and the content of the programmes are influenced by the specificities of the internet as a type of medium, but at the same time that the crossing of genre boundaries and the originality of the formats on Stream,...
The Wire: Neoformalist Analysis and Analysis of Fictional Worlds
Svěrák, Matouš ; Hanáková, Petra (advisor) ; Svatoňová, Kateřina (referee)
In my thesis I analyze the narrative structure, style, fictional world of The Wire, and their mutual relationships. I use neoformalist theory as the basis of my analysis, but I also employ theory of serial fiction by Mgr. Radomír D. Kokeš, PhD., that he introduced in the textbook Intermediální poetika příběhu. I hope that I can help to demonstrate analytical benefits of this young theory. I also discuss historical and economical context that lead to the creation of The Wire, specific position of television network HBO, the producer of The Wire, on the television market and ways in which this position altered the final shape of analyzed series. I reflect the relationship between The Wire and reality, its specifics in the context of the genre of cop shows. I also put The Wire in the broader context of the rest of the output of executive producer and screenwriter David Simon. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Czechoslovakia in 1968-1977 and its image in serial Vyprávěj
Menšíková, Iva ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Dominik, Šimon (referee)
My dissertation is dedicated to the problem of media construction of history in the case of the television series Vyprávěj. It concentrates on how much the series' adaptation of historical events and normal life in the era of normalization between 1968 and 1977 fits reality by comparing concrete historical events and key societal activities with their adaptation in the series. The work focuses on three special categories - fundamental historical events of that era, people's normal life and the lives of dissidents, with a final objective of finding out how well the series' adaptation matches the true history of the normalization era. First, I delimit the problem of television series in general and address the concept of seriality on the basis of the professional literature. Then I focus on the media construction of reality and representation history in culture, especially in television series. Because the series Vyprávěj addresses recent history, I also mention collective memory. After that I concentrate only on the series Vyprávěj and the problem of normalization in Czechoslovakia, in which era the story takes place. The second part of the dissertation is dedicated to concrete events of the era - how they really happened according to the professional literature and narration of contemporary...
