Symbol and architecture
Richter, Jan ; Czumalo, Vladimír (advisor) ; Matějů, Martin (referee)
The thesis attempts to define and capture the relation of symbol and architecture, which is taken into account in two main thematic areas. The first area deals with the issue of symbol, which is presented on the basis of classification of symbols in two types - progressively restitutive and regressively reductive - as it was proposed by professor Borecký in the Czech culturology studies. In line with the culturological interdisciplinarity, understanding symbol is showed from different points of view adopted by various humanities such as philosophy, psychology, sociology, cultural anthropology or religious studies. The examples of concepts of symbol are taken from prominent scholars of these domains, focused especially on S. Freud, C. G. Jung, E. Cassirer, P. Ricoeur, C. Geerz or M. Eliade. The second part of the thesis is concerned in symbolic conception of the world and its architectonic representation. Understanding phenomena of reality reflects in founding places and their development into significant space for human existence by architectonic representations of symbolic meanings. The architecture is presented here as amalgamation of architectural craft with symbolic contents. Especially the ideas of phenomenologically oriented authors, such as Ch. Norberg-Schulz, D. Veselý and others, are taken into...

Analýza hedgeových fondov a hedgeových stratégií
Austová, Lucia ; Jílek, Josef (advisor) ; Halás, Vladimír (referee)
An objective of my graduation thesis is an analysis of hedge funds and hedge strategies while reflecting the distribution of the investments to right portfolio taking into account the risk. The main aim is to provide clear and consistent classification of whole variety of different hedge styles and strategies. There are plenty of different investment and trading strategies of hedge funds and their classification differs from analyst to analyst and from database to database. The work focuses on finding an alternative consistent classification of hedge funds which will lead to improvement of investment decisions of financial market participants, to effective distribution of the investment portfolio and therefore to elimination of undiversified risks. For the practical analysis I use real data of hedge fund returns of particular relevant time period. I focus on research and description of possible methods of hedge fund classification mentioning their pluses and minuses. After passionate evaluation of each method I have chosen two methods according to which I classify the hedge funds datasets and finally I compare the results of both. The theoretical part of work focuses on definition of hedge funds, hedge styles and strategies, pluses and minuses as well as risk accompanying particular strategy.

Phylogenetic, morphological and ecological context of microevolution in pennate diatoms
Veselá, Jana ; Neustupa, Jiří (advisor) ; Řeháková, Klára (referee) ; Vanormelingen, Pieter (referee)
Visual assessment of discontinuities in the morphological features of diatom cells has been widely used in the discovery and delimitation of diatom species. However, a multidisciplinary approach to species-level taxonomy has revealed hidden diversity within the traditional diatom morphospecies. Consequently, this work examined both the natural and clonal populations of diatoms by diverse traditional and modern approaches, in order to assess the diversity, ecology, and distribution of diatom species. Although a detailed investigation of natural diatom samples was confounded by uncertain morphological boundaries between the traditional diatom species, it recognized that the diversity was relatively high; even one new diatom species was described using the morphological species concept. The multivariate statistical analyses showed that the variation of natural communities of traditional diatom morphospecies reflected differences in the local environmental conditions, as well as microhabitat heterogenity within a region. Since each diatom morphospecies is most likely a complex of sibling species, the two model traditional morphospecies were investigated, in order to assess morphological variation, genetic diversity, and/or the reproductive compatibility of monoclonal cultures. Even though isolated...

Comparison of individual gaming activities in a match and training process in football.
Jura, Ondřej ; Buzek, Mario (advisor) ; Frýbort, Pavel (referee)
Title: Comparison of individual gaming activities in a match and training process in football. Objectives: Comparison of success of selected offensive individual gaming activities in a match and training process in SK Slavia Prague, category U-11 and U-10. Methods: The success of individual gaming activities between training process and the matches was compared by the method of indirect observation using video records of three matches and test battery. Matches showed different quality, so their overall results were taken into account by the coefficients of difficulty. Test battery included six exercises focused on the observed individual gaming activities. Based on the collected score from the test battery and percentage of success of the match the interval scale was identified through the standard deviation. Both values were compared. Results: The investigation showed that the quality of the observed individual gaming activities in the training process largely reflected in the game. This is illustrated by the finding that five of the eight observed players obtained the same results in battery test and observed matches. Keywords: Diagnosis of individual gaming activities, test battery, evading opponents, passing, shooting, coefficient of difficulty.

Taxes and similar charges in banking business
Pieran, Ondřej ; Kotáb, Petr (advisor) ; Kohajda, Michael (referee)
The purpose of the thesis is to analyse the relation between tax legislation and banking services. The thesis is formed of two parts. The first part (Chapter 1-3) covers aspects of the actual tax legislation in relation with banking services, the second part (Chapter 4-8) addresses trends which may be followed in the future regarding financial sector taxation. The thesis is composed of eight chapters. Chapter One deals with the position of banks as taxpayers of income tax, tax aspects of the banking business, tax provisions and the position of the banks as a payer of tax. The conclusions may be made that only limited pieces of income tax legislation are exclusive for banks. Peculiarities of banking transactions are reflected by accounting rules. Chapter Two focuses on the exemption of financial services from the system of value added tax. Some of financial services which are subject to the VAT are mentioned. Alternatives to the exemption approach are also investigated. Chapter Three is devoted to the system of deposit insurance and contributions of banks to the Deposit Insurance Fund. Future development in this field is also commented. Chapter Four deals with a general approach to the financial sector taxation, its motives, opportunities and related risks. Chapter Five examines the state of...

Janovská, Klára ; Rovná, Lenka (advisor) ; Miklošová, Kateřina (referee)
Diploma thesis The Approval process of the Lisbon Treaty and its reflection in French and Czech press deals with problematic two-year course of its ratification and with reflection of the accompanying events in the chosen journals. Together with continuing increase of European Union (hereinafter "EU") member states, the EU heads had to react on challenges brought by such expansion. Therefore it resulted in elaboration of so called Lisbon Treaty (hereinafter "the Treaty") that had been meant to replace the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe rejected by the France and the Netherlands in referendum in 2005. This new document has reformed the European institutions and has expanded the EU's sphere of influence. The process of ratification that followed in the member states after signing of the Treaty has not occurred without difficulties. Germany and the Czech Republic challenged the Treaty before the constitutional courts and Ireland rejected it in the referendum. Despite all obstacles the process has finally been finished and the Treaty came into force as of December 1, 2009. During the whole two-year period Czech and French press monitored the events related to the mentioned document. The thesis tries to answer the following questions based on the analysis of the articles that appeared in...

Macáková, Martina ; Rak, Jiří (advisor) ; Pelánová, Anita (referee)
The Spanish Civil War was an extraordinary event that draught unprecedent attention of intellectuals all around the world. The wast majority of them took side of the Republicans. It was also the case of two writers whose works were marked by the greatest response and to some extent ifnluenced the reception of the conflict by our society. Ernest Hemingway and George Orwell came to Spain with different expectations, they each played in spanish drama distinct role and reflected their experience diversly, however they shared the belief that the Republic is a cause worth to be fighting for. The main objective of this bachelor thesis is to analyse the political message of two most important literal accounts that have been written on background of the Spanish Civil War, to describe the circumstances of their origins and publication and to account how the public in Spain, their home countries and also in Czechoslovakia react to them. Hemingway's novel For Whom the Bell Tolls and Orwell's Homage to Catalonia proof to be a testimony how strong is the bond between history and literature. The popular Spanish images depicted by writers such as Ernest Hemingway and George Orwell have not disappeared, only was overshadowed by Franco's dictatorship.

Consciousness and the Self: the theories of John Searle and Antonio Damasio
Šebešová, Petra ; Palkoska, Jan (referee) ; Hill, James (advisor)
The thesis deals with the relationship of consciousness and the self, as it is present in the consciousness theories of John Searle and Antonio Damasio. Consciousness is taken by both authors as an essentially subjective phenomenon and it is analyzed as such. Yet at the same time, they take it to be a natural part of the physical world. First, Searle's arguments concerning the subjective nature of consciousness and the possibilities to study it scientifically are analyzed, together with objections against Searle's view. Then Searle's account of the self is presented. The author argues that this account is not sufficient to explain subjectivity more deeply. Presentation of Damasio's theory follows as a complement to Searle 's theory. Damasio takes the sense of self to be a necessary component of consciousness that is pre-reflectively present and appears in the form of feeling. This notion of the self is supported in the thesis for it allows for better understanding of the phenomenal aspects of consciousness and also forms a basis for a possible scientific research. Damasio's biological hypotheses concerning the emergence of the subjectivity is discussed and criticised though for presupposing the subject, which is yet to be explained by the theory.
