Trávníčková, Jana ; Melicharová, Ludmila (advisor) ; Vopršalová, Marie (referee)
Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of pharmacology and toxicology Candidate: Jana Trávníčková Supervisor: PharmDr. Ludmila Melicharová Title of diploma thesis: Pharmacotherapy of epilepsy Epilepsy is one of the most frequent central nervous system diseases. This disorder is characterized by repetitious epileptic spasms. Classic as well as modern antiepileptic medication is being used in nowadays therapy with various effects, indications and adverse effects. Pharmacotherapy must always be continuous and long-term based, sometimes even long-life. In some cases surgery treatment may be used. An important part of epileptic treatment is non-pharmacological processes. Even though we cannot wholly cure epilepsy by pharmacotherapical methods, nowadays possibilities of epileptic treatment enable us to improve quality of life of a patient and help them live their life without major limitations.

Mikšová, Martina ; Karlíčková, Jana (advisor) ; Macáková, Kateřina (referee)
This thesis concerns with the effects of heavy metals on plants and is a part of a broader research on biomarkers of oxidative stress in aquatic plants in the Department of Pharmaceutical Botany of Faculty of Pharmacy in the University of Limoges. Experimental organism was an aquatic plant Myriophyllum alterniflorum DC (alternate water milfoil) that was collected in the upper stream of the river Vienna. Samples were cultivated in the increasing concentrations of copper and cadmium (0mM, 0,25mM, 0,5mM, 0,75mM) for 1, 3 and 6 days. On account of time and chemical products insufficiency only several analyses of plants treated with copper were carried out. Catalase is one of the enzymes integrated in the antioxidative defence system. It decomposes H2O2 into water. During the time catalase activity gradually increased up to 0,5mM. 0,75mM showed the maximum after the third day. When comparing different copper concentrations after the same cultivation period the highest activity was observed in 0,25mM in the first day and in 0,50mM the third and sixth day. Myriophyllum alterniflorum DC as other aquatic plants exhibits the heavy metal accumulation ability increasing in time and higher copper concentrations. On the contrary, decreasing time and concentration dependence was observable in measurements of...

Antiterrorism as an alternatve of anticommunism in the revision of Herman and Chomsky's propaganda model
Ježková, Klára ; Cirkl, Petr (referee) ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor)
Diploma thesis "Antiterrorism as an Alternative of Anticommunism In the Revision of Herman and Chomsky's Propaganda Model" deals with the possibility of substitution of its fifth filter - anticommunism by another filter which is more up-to-date and universal - by antiterrorism. In its theoretical part thesis deals with the Propaganda Model. It introduces its five filters as Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky introduced them in 1988 and completes them with observations of other scholars who have dealt with the Propaganda Model. At the same time it presents Propaganda Model's critics which have been coming up since it was introduced. With regards to the fact, that the thesis suggests antiterrorism as a possible alternative to the anticommunism, it introduces a brief history of terrorism and its currently most distinct representative - the Al-Qaeda organization. Its part is also devoted to the moral panic. One of the thesis's aim is to try to discover whether the media by their way of presenting terrorism could invoke the moral panic. One of the chapters is devoted to ideology. As it aims to make the conclusion through the qualitative analysis of the Czech media in 1998 after the bombings of the embassy of the United States of America in Kenya and Tanzania and the subsequent Infinite Reach operation, period of the...

Bémová, Hana ; Kuča, Kamil (referee) ; Opletalová, Veronika (advisor)
Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Kralove Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Drug Control SYNTHESIS OF PRECURSORS FOR BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE LACTONES IV. Rigorous Thesis Hana Piskacova A high width of biological activity of natural or synthetic unsaturated five membered lactones from the family of furan-2(5H)-ones, is the main reason why to synthesize new substances of this structure. The introductory part of the thesis deals with antineoplastic natural compounds of this type. Except of antitumour activity some unsaturated five membered lactones exhibit antifungal, antiviral, antibacterial effects, or inhibit the synthesis of cholesterol, for example. The experimental project is an extension of my diploma thesis concerned with the synthesis of precursors for lactones. These precursors - methyl (E)- and (Z)-2-bromo-5- (subst.)arylpent-2-en-4-ynoates - were prepared by Sonogashira couplings. The parent substances for couplings were arylethynes (1-ethynyl-4-(methoxymethoxy)benzen, 1-ethynyl-2-nitrobenzene, 3-ethynylaniline, 2-ethynylpyridine) and methylesters of dihalogenated prop-2-enoic acid. The dominant products of the couplings were β-monoalkynylated esters, apart from them side products of homocouplings were obtained. Reactions of E-methylesters of dihalogenated...

First and last name: Zdeňka Machková Title: Traumatic brain injury - intracranial hypertension Graduation thesis Charles university in Pratur Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Healthcare bioanalytics The aim: The aim of this graduation theses was the background research of the special literature and information resources, which are consist of intracranial hypertension. In the graduation theses we definied intracranial hypertension and also we noticed the description of the pathophysiological mechanisms generation intracranial hypertension. Main knowledge: Intracranial hypertension is one of the most important pathophysiological mechanisms, which in principle influence the prognosis of the patient after the brain injury. On the development of the intracranial hypertension after brain trauma it is most ofen shared intracranial bleeding, cerebral oedema or failure of the cerebrospinal fluid. Adult person in the recumbency has got normal values ICP between 7-15 mmHg. Values ICP which are higher than 20mmHg are generally accepting as pathological. Intracranial hypertension contributes to the reduction cerebral perfusion pressure, which is important for the preservation of the blood running in all brain areas. Reducted cerebral perfusion pressure leads to the ischemia of the brain. The main aim of...

Analysis of the Quality of life using cluster analysis and comparison with the Human Development Index
Pánková, Barbara ; Miskolczi, Martina (advisor) ; Langhamrová, Jana (referee)
Nowadays quality of life is often discussed topic. In defining this term, there is considerable ambiguity and disunity, since there is no universally accepted definition, nor theoretically sophisticated model. However, despite this fact, the level of quality of life is currently one of the most discussed topic. Monitoring the quality of life by using a variety of indicators are engaged in several international organizations, one of them is the Development Programme of the United Nations. This organization annually publishes the Human Development Index, which divides the world´s countries into four groups according to their level of development: low, medium, high and very high development. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the quality of life in 125 countries by using cluster analysis, accurately the Ward's method. Quality of life in this thesis is evaluated based on 19 demographic and economic indicators, which include life expectancy, literacy rate, access to drinking water and infant mortality rate. The cluster analysis divided the country into individual clusters by their similarities. Six clusters were created by this analysis, which had been compared with the results of Human Development Index. The clusters very well reflect the division, which is commonly used in the characterization of developing and developed countries. Each of the six clusters can be very well described and characterized in terms of quality of life. It is also possible qualify those clusters as poorest developing, low developed, moderately developed, medium development, high and very high development countries. Based on the results it can be stated that this analysis is consistent with other indicators of quality of life and the resulting clusters are identical with the division of countries which is commonly used.
