Recent Trends in the Housing Market
Tsharakyan, Ashot ; Zemčík, Petr (advisor) ; Laurin, Frédéric (referee) ; Gilbert, Scott (referee)
In my dissertation I focus on exploring the major aspects of real estate markets' development over the last fifteen years. The dissertation includes theoreticalas well as empirical analysis of US and Czech real estate marketand consists of 4 chapters. In the first chapter the aggregate welfare effects of housing price appreciation in the presence of binding constraints are analyzed. The additional beneficial effect of housing price appreciation in the form of relaxation of credit constraints and opportunity for better consumption smoothing is taken into account when calculating the welfare effects of housing price appreciation. The effects of housing price appreciation are analyzed using both a model with exogenous housing prices based on previous literature as well as a newly developed model with endogenous housing prices. The second chapter explores theaggregate welfare effects of housing price changes in a stochastic general equilibrium framework with heterogeneous agents. The household sector in this model consists of two types of households, namely credit constrained and unconstrained ones, which differ both with respect to their time preferences as well as the structure of assets they own. The model also includes multi-sector production side and several sources of exogenous stochastic shocks....

The instruments of criminal law in the fight against organized crime
Schramhauser, Jan ; Jelínek, Jiří (advisor) ; Sváček, Jan (referee) ; Ivor, Jaroslav (referee)
UNIVERZITA KARLOVA V PRAZE Právnická fakulta Katedra trestního práva DISERTAČNÍ PRÁCE TRESTNĚPRÁVNÍ NÁSTROJE BOJE S ORGANIZOVANÝM ZLOČINEM Vedoucí disertační práce: Prof. JUDr. Jiří Jelínek, CSc. Zpracovatel: JUDr. Jan Schramhauser English summary This dissertation thesis addresses the issue of organised crime and the selected primarily criminal-law tools intended for the fight against organised crime. The thesis consists of four parts divided into individual chapters and sections. Having mainly a criminological focus, the introductory part defines organised crime and groups aimed at commission of such crime. It analyses certain definitions available from the Czech and foreign literature, compares them and discusses whether it is possible to define organised crime uniformly and universally. Afterwards it specifies the basic features of organised criminal groups, provides their characteristics and includes a brief excurse into selected criminal organisations. The first part also describes the historical development of certain criminal groups up to now and examines, in particular, the causes and the circumstances of the organised crime expansion in the Czech Republic after 1989, its main activities in our country and other issues. It refers to the legislation which was very insufficient at that time, the...

Jago and preman - controversial heroes of Indonesian history
Petrů, Tomáš ; Vrhel, František (advisor) ; Šalanda, Bohuslav (referee) ; Dubovská, Zorica (referee)
The dissertation deals with the historical development of banditry and gangsterism in Indonesia against the background of its relationship with the ruling elite. The author argues that bandits, called jago, or modern gangsters, known as preman, represented the basic pillar of power of all ruling regimes in Java from the classical Javanese kingdoms and the 163 Netherlands East Indies' colonial state to the Suharto's New Order. This pattern changed, however, with the onset of decentralisation and democratization of Indonesian politics - thugs for hire ceased to be agents of state and became a power tool of political parties and other competing interest groups. The author also shows that the regimes tried to eliminate the thugs' criminal activities by integrating them into their respective repressive systems. The general consequence of these intergrational attempts was criminalization of security forces and the state administration. The author further proves the existence of a direct historical and cultural connection between the jago and the preman. These controversial figures also share, despite a substantial time span, three essential features: cooperation with the patron on an ambivalent basis; criminal activities on the side outside this relationship, which secured profit for the elite in return for...

Synthesis of hydroxy derivatives of 3-phenyl-2H-1,3-benzoxazine-2,4(3H)-dione
Musilová, Jitka ; Macháček, Miloš (advisor) ; Kuneš, Jiří (referee)
Synthesis of hydroxy derivatives of 3-phenyl-2H-1,3-benzoxazine-2,4(3H)- dione Jitka Musilová The thesis is concerned with the preparation of 16 cyclic analogues of hydroxy-salicylanilides, i.e. 3- phenyl-2H-1,3-benzoxazine-2,4(3H)-diones monosubstituted with a hydroxyl group on the heterocyclic ring. The starting hydroxysalicylanilides belonging to four series were synthesized by the microwave- assisted reaction of the respective hydroxysalicylic acid with aniline (unsubstituted or para- substituted by chlorine, methyl or methoxy groups) in the presence of phosphorus trichloride. Their treatment with ethyl-chloroformate afforded the expected 1,3-benzoxazine derivatives in 77 - 94 % yields. All compounds prepared were characterized by infrared and NMR spectroscopy and by elemental analysis. All the compounds were examined for antifungal activity in vitro against Candida albicans, C. tropicalis, C. krusei, C. glabrata, Trichosporon asahii, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Aspergillus fumigates, and Absidia corymbifera, but none of these compounds was more active than ketoconazole. In general, parent hydroxysalicylanilides were more active than their cyclic counterparts.

René Descartes - the human good as a onto-theology
Zika, Richard ; Sobotka, Milan (advisor) ; Hill, James (referee) ; Glombíček, Petr (referee)
At the beginning of Descartes's Regulae ad directionem ingenii we can find a call for secure knowledge which should be the point of departure for all meaningful human activities. The idea of secure knowledge is here gradually taking the form of universa} wisdom or 'good minď (i.e. rationality), of method and mathesis universalis, of a doctrine of arrangement and measurement. An example of manifestation of rationality (and, hence, activity) of Cartesian knowledge i s the rejection of Aristotelian-scholastic idea of the order of categories of entia as a speciously self-evident, immediately given clue to guide the cognitive process. In this context the rejection has also involved the notion of substance as a given absolute and that of accidentals, relative to it ('respecting' it). The old ontology does, however, assert itself in Descartes's method: the 'good minď acquiring knowledge becomes the 'substance' of the world as being acquired knowledge of; all objects of knowledge, and, as such, of arrangement, 'respecť it, are 'accidental' to it. Nevertheless the 'good minď acquiring knowledge (making arrangements) is, in its activity, not only the 'substance' (ousía) of the world as being acquired knowledge of but, in unity with this, also its principle, arkhé, cause. The Cartesian method is therefore not only...

Výsledky poukazují na rozdíly v motivaci pro lezení mezi mládeží v jednotlivých městech.. Klíčová slova: radost a prožitek, volný čas, motivace, lezecká stěna 2

The impact of stochastic dominance generator on a portfolio efficiency
Dungl, Martin ; Dupačová, Jitka (referee) ; Kopa, Miloš (advisor)
This contribution focuses on the sets of efficient portfolios and their properties, given the class of utility functions. Firstly the basic concepts of stochastic dominance are recalled, then we limit our attention to the scenario approach and the concept of portfolio eeffciency is introduced. Di erent de nitions of efficient portfolios are taken into account - we call them admissibility, strict admissibility and optimality. We summarize the most important results concerning the shapes of sets composed by portfolios efficient according to the above mentioned approaches. The problem of path connectedness of the sets of optimal portfolios with limited short sales is analyzed. We prove that the set of optimal portfolios is path connected under the assumption that the generator of the stochastic dominance is a path connected set of strictly concave utility functions. Then the convexity of the set of optimal portfolios with respect to the set of exponential utility functions, in case of allowed short sales, is analyzed. We conclude that the sets of optimal portfolios generally need not be convex and we prove the necessary and sufficient condition of convexity.
