Haemonchus contortus - metabolism of anthelmintics and other model xenobiotics in vitro
Kuběnová, Markéta ; Skálová, Lenka (advisor) ; Lamka, Jiří (referee)
Most economic losses in ruminant are associated with gastrointestinal parasite infections. Haemonchus contortus is one of the most pathogenic parasites of small ruminants (sheep, goat). H. contortus exhibits considerable adaptability to unfavourable conditions and its occurrence is world-wide. Today, the treatment of haemonchosis is complicated due to resistance of H. contortus to common anthelmintics, especially those with benzimidazole structure. Biotransformation enzymes, that protect parasite against toxic effect of anthelmintics, may contribute to development of resistance. The aim of this project was to study the biotransformation of benzimidazole anthelmintic flubendazole in H. contortus and to find out biotransformation of other model xenobiotics. The results showed that cytosolic NADPH-dependent enzymes of H. contortus deactivate flubendazole via reduction of its carbonyl group. Substantial reduction of other xenobiotics was also found. Significant activity of glutathion S- tranferases may aid to anthelmintics further deactivation. The new information about biotransformation enzymes of parasites contribute to understanding of mechanism of resistance.

Komárková, Barbora ; Hádková, Kateřina (referee) ; Okrouhlíková, Lenka (advisor)
The aim of this work is to provide comprehensive view of the deaf as languagecultural minority. The thesis is divided into four parts, each covering different topič. The first part explains what the criteria for considering person deaf are. The two distinct approaches are studied - language-cultural approach and medicine approach. The second part describes particularities of Czech sign language, being considered as natural language. We explain why the sign language is integrál part of the deaf community, its culture, and consequently of a language-cultural approach. Relation between language-cultural approach and development of deaf child is emphasized, with main focus on the question of satisfying the basic needs of a child. In the last part, the generál description of terms community and culture is given, including detailed description of the deaf community, studying individual properties of the culture. All the description is accompanied by examples. At the end of the thesis, those legal documents, the aim of which is to contribute to improvement of a view of a deaf community by the hearing people, are mentioned.

Ottoman state and society as reflected in rabbinic literature of the 16th-18th centuries
Rubešová, Markéta ; Šedinová, Jiřina (referee) ; Klusáková, Luďa (advisor)
History of Ottoman Jewry is far from being neglected by the modern historiography. On the contrary, one may see unceasing endeavour to deal properly with various aspects of Jewish life amidst the Ottoman society. Nevertheless, these studies vary considerably in the sense of chronology, space and approaches. While some of them focus on certain period and/or region, others wish to present a reader comprehesive synthesis. The aim of my thesis is to grasp mental world of Jewish subjects and to find out how and to what extent these subjects joined day-to-day life in the Ottoman society. For this purpose, Jews are seen as integral element of higly heterogeneous Ottoman society. The thesis is inspired by studies of Yaron Ben-Naeh, who represents the youngest generation of Israeli historians, and whose subject of research is mainly social and cultural history of Jews in the Ottoman empire from 15th to 19th century. In order to make the tensions between society and individual more "legible", we decided to employ the so-called theory of figurations, borrowed from famous sociolog Norbert Elias. The relationship between society (structure) and individual (actor) in historical process is better understood when presented in form of fluid figurations of interdependent people.

Time, plan and market
Kollár, Martin ; Mlčoch, Lubomír (advisor) ; Gregor, Martin (referee)
The thesis of this work is to enlighten the process of decision making of an individual in time, which is in the end integrated into market system, where many individuals, who are deciding simultaneously, interact together,. The fundamental principles of decision making contained in this work are drawn from the work of G. L. S. Shackle, which chief characteristics are instantaneousness and uncertainty caused by the lapse of time. Hence, the decision making of an individual takes place in the specific instant through generation of conceptions about possible future outcomes of action. The generation of these concepts is based on instantaneous and apriory conceptions, which represent the description of the working of system. Further decision making consists of application of expectations and assignment of future value to the imagined outcomes. As every individual lives in a society comprised of a large number of individuals, diffusion of knowledge and expectation takes place by means of realization of plans and price mechanisms. Thus, every individual achieves to gather sufficient amount of knowledge to be able to make meaningful decisions in this complex system, which is changing in the lapse of time. The conclusion of the paper is dedicated to the summary and to the prediction of the future progress on the leasing field.

The United Kingdom and the European Integration: Influence of foreign trade and monetary politics on the British attitude towards Europe between the years 1941 and 1973
Matera, Jan ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Váška, Jan (referee)
The master's thesis The United Kingdom and the European Integration: Influence of foreign trade and monetary politics on the British attitude towards Europe between the years 1941 and 1973 explores the relationship of the United Kingdom towards European integration in a period from the end of the Second World War to the point of becoming a member of the European Economic Community in 1973. The relationship of the United Kingdom with Europe is studied by analysing international monetary and trade politics of the United Kingdom, its economic standing in the world and comparative strength of Pound Sterling. All of these variables played a key role in the development of aforementioned relationship. The aim of the thesis is to ascertain the role played by international monetary and trade politics of the United Kingdom in relation to European integration. The research itself is divided into three chapters and overall defined and underpinned by conjoining two theories of hegemonic stability and aspects of realist school of political economy. First chapter examines the emergence and development of Bretton Woods system and American economic hegemony. Following chapter explores the relationship between the United Kingdom and the Sterling Area. Final chapter deals with British economic relationship towards...

Physiological role of SIGIRR in early embryonic development.
Hanusová, Zdeňka ; Filipp, Dominik (advisor) ; Brdička, Tomáš (referee)
IL-1 receptor/Toll-like receptor (IL-1R/TLR) supefamily represents a group of proteins that share highly conserved TIR domain in their cytoplasmic region. Signal transduction mediated by TIR-containing proteins involves the activation of NF-κB transcription factor and thus the members of this superfamily play a key role in many physiological responses related to innate immune defense and inflammation. SIGIRR (single immunoglobulin IL1R-related molecule) is a recently discovered member of the IL-1R family, however it differs from the other group members by its unique structural features. SIGIRRhas been so far considered to be an 'orphan' receptor as no SIGIRR ligand has been identified yet. Moreover, SIGIRR itself is not capable to induce the NF-κB activation. Instead, SIGIRR is supposed to act as a negative regulator for IL- 1Rs/TLRs mediated inflammation. Its inhibitory function has been implemented in several signalling pathways in various cell types and tissues including the kidney, the digestive tract and the lung. Recent reports also suggest that SIGIRR could play a role in early embryonic development. The main aim of this thesis is to characterize the mechanism how SIGIRR negative regulatory function in IL-1R/TLR signalling pathway is delivered. Here we describe the establishment of...

ANALYSIS OF SOCIAL SECURITY IN SOCIAL POLICY
Vernerová, Barbora ; Klazar, Stanislav (advisor) ; Schvábová, Andrea (referee)
This thesis describes the analysis of social security in the context of social policy. Main attention is paid to the historical development of social policy or social security and integration into the social security tax system. The aim was to confirm or disprove the hypothesis: "Whether Social Security tax or not." Attention to two major historical patterns, the European developments and the current situation in the area of social policy. Then you take the analysis of social security in the Czech Republic. In the last chapter analyzes income and expenditure on social security and social policy in the Czech Republic and the European Union. Finally, I concluded that Social Security can see the hidden tax, which is very favorable for the tax system.

On the boundary conditions in the numerical simulation of stably stratified fluids flows
Bodnár, Tomáš ; Fraunié, P.
This paper presents the results of a numerical study of the stably stratified flow over a low smooth hill. The emphasize is on certain problems related to artificial boundary conditions used in the numerical simulations. The numerical results of three-dimensional simulations are shown for a range of Froude and Reynolds numbers in order to demonstrate the varying importance of these boundary issues in different flow regimes. The simulations were performed using the Boussinesq approximation model solved by a high-resolution numerical code. The in-house developed code is based on compact finite-difference discretization in space and Strong Stability Preserving Runge-Kutta time integration.
