Ponava – potential of area development
Srpková, Barbora ; Wittmann, Maxmilian (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
This thesis project is dealing with the phenomenon of brownfields, which nowadays are a part of every city. For the site at Brno - Ponava the proposal suggests TEMPORARY USE as one of the possible strategic approaches for handling this issue and introduces a process-oriented urban development strategy. The main theme of the design is called ZERO URBANISM. The goal is that with a minimal investment, short construction time and fulfillment of overall principals of sustainability, it is possible to change the former football stadium into a platform for social life. With cooperation from the public and the city this can become a place with various activities and have the potential for economic growth. The expected effect is that the site becomes a CATALYST and INCUBATOR for future development of the undervalued neighborhood, having a cultural and economic impact on the site as well as within the surrounding city context.

Proactive and Reactive Approaches in Crisis Management
Chaloupková, Lenka ; Zelená, Veronika (advisor) ; Hajdíková, Taťána (referee)
Increasingly in today's dynamic business environment, serious crises are more often encountered and of increasing severity. The process which is intended to prevent or reduce the damage of a crisis is called Crisis Management. It is a rapidly changing area of business management, since it constantly develops over time, improving and enriching itself with new and better information. The aim of this thesis was to summarize current theoretical knowledge of proactive and reactive approaches in crisis management and to analyse crisis management in a selected company London Mining Plc. The theoretical part was developed through the analysis of currently available scientific literature and specialized publications. The practical part was based on the questionnaire survey method and semi-structured interview. The results showed that although the company was prepared for crises; acted proactively and had drawn up a detailed crisis plan that helped the company avoid many expected crises, the company went into administration due to a crisis caused by force majeure - a result of the falling global price of the main commodity and an unexpected outbreak of the Ebola virus in their principal place of business activity.

Similarity Search in Protein Databases
Hoksza, David ; Skopal, Tomáš (advisor) ; Navarro, Gonzalo (referee) ; Svozil, Daniel (referee)
One of the principal operations in the area of bioinformatics is similarity assessment at the levels of protein sequence (string of characters) and protein structure (3D shape). It is employed in a wide range of applications such as protein structure prediction, protein function assessment, automatic classification, etc. The protein databases have been growing exponentially in recent years, thus making the existing methods for similarity retrieval inappropriate concerning the volume of the protein-related data. In this thesis, we focus on similarity retrieval on protein sequence and structure levels. At both levels, we propose improvements to the existing methods, as well as novel methods for managing proteins from the similarity perspective. In the first part of the thesis we approach the problem of similarity retrieval at protein sequence level. First, we evaluate the possibilities of utilizing metric access methods for efficient storing and retrieval of protein sequences. Then, we focus on the protein similarity measure itself. Since the similarity computation of protein sequences is based on dynamic programming, we introduce an improvement for increasing efficiency (response time) of the retrieval by reusing parts of the dynamic programming matrix, while maintaining original effectiveness (quality of...

Media Market in the Czech Republic in the Context of Contemporary Economic Development
Machková, Marta ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
The work focuses on mapping the current situation in the media market in the Czech Republic. It examines in particular the impact of current economic situation in the media organizations. Media behave in the marketplace as commercial enterprises (except public Czech Television and Czech Radio - for comparison are also included in the work), their main objective is to generate profit. Media organizations derive revenue primarily from advertising specified, are therefore dependent on the financial system as a whole. If advertisers due to unfavorable economic situation restricts the publication of advertisements in the media, media organizations will automatically drop revenues, resulting in running the organization. The work investigates how the specific effects of the decline in economic activity in media organizations. For an overall analysis of the main characters in particular those such as revenue from principal activities of the organization, the total profit or changes in staffing. The work describes in detail the operations in 2008 and 2009 for companies Borgis, Economia, Ringier, Barrandov TV Studio, První zpravodajská, Lagardere Active ČR, Mafra, CET 21, Česká televize (Czech Television) and Český rozhlas (Czech Radio). The analysis is complemented by theoretical texts, which approximates the...

Companies in private international law
Štaňko, Andrej ; Brodec, Jan (referee) ; Pauknerová, Monika (advisor)
Companies in International Private Law Private companies are acting in the international context much more intensively than in any time before. There are many ways how to act on the international market. One of the solutions is to establish a branch or a representation office instead of establishing a brand new company. The right to act in the international context using branch companies is known as the freedom of establishment. There were numerous discussions and cases concerning the topic of the freedom of establishment. The main dispute arose on the ground of the different approach between two main theories - the seat theory and incorporation theory. The diploma thesis in your hand covers main issues concerning the freedom of establishment and it also discusses the case law provided by the European Court of Justice. The author uses the comparative view of the seat and incorporation theories. With a greater detail to the Czech law, the issue of the foreign companies' recognition is discussed. The Czech law recognizes foreign companies even in the form in which it is no longer possible to establish new company in the Czech Republic. In this regard basic elements of the bare trust estblished under the law of Guernsey are discussed. The case law of the European Court of Justice opened Europe's...

Substantives in the work of Vladimír Holan
Trunečka, Michal ; Holman, Petr (referee) ; Vaněk, Václav (advisor)
This diploma work is based on extensive statistical analysis of aH substantiv es in the whole work ofVladimír Holan (1905-1980) and the results ofthis analysis are elaborated in several types of dictionary of frequency of substantives in the work of Vladimír Holan. After an overview of the premises and princip les of such analysis and a brief description of the dictionaries of frequency the author shows the possibilities of studying Holans poetic texts from the aspects of the dictionaries of frequency and investigates four selected groups of substantiv es, which are used in the work of Vladimír Holan (substantives denominating human being and substantives ph oto, old man/old woman and wind).

The Use of Franchising in the System Providing Health Care Services in the Czech Republic
Pleva, Miroslav ; Lešetický, Ondřej (advisor) ; Mlčák, Jan (referee)
This thesis deals with the usage possibilities of franchising within the scope of health care services provided in the Czech Republic. First part of the thesis concerns franchising in general, describes its principals, development, law regulation etc. Second part analyzes franchising market in the Czech Republic and subsequently identifies respective concepts that are active within the scope of health care services. In my opinion, based on the analysis performed and with respect to theoretical findings, due to specifics of health care services, franchising might represent a suitable form of cooperation only among selected types of these services. Recommended among the concepts available on our market within the scope of health care services are those, which according to my opinion have potential to become a successful business opportunity.

Analýza klíčových komponent ve financích
Fučík, Vojtěch ; Kolman, Marek (advisor) ; Fičura, Milan (referee)
The main objective of this thesis is to summarize and possibly interconnect the existing methodology on principal components analysis, hierarchical clustering and topological organization in the financial and economic networks, linear regression and GARCH modeling. In the thesis the clustering ability of PCA is compared with the more conventional approaches on a set of world stock market indices returns in different time periods where the time division is represented by The World Financial Crisis of 2007-2009. It is also observed whether the clustering of DJIA index components is underlied by the industry sector to which the individual stocks belong. Joining together PCA with classical linear regression creates principal components regression which is further in the thesis applied to the German DAX 30 index logarithmic returns forecasting using various macroeconomic and financial predictors. The correlation between two energy stocks returns - Chevron and ExxonMobil is forecasted using orthogonal (or PCA) GARCH. The constructed forecast is then compared with the predictions constructed by the conventional multivariate volatility models - EWMA and DCC GARCH.

Evaluation of Physical and Chemical Parameters of Still Less Exploited Species of Small Fruit and Proposal of a New Soft Drink from this Fruit
Cetkovská, Jitka ; Krška,, Boris (referee) ; Barták,, Petr (referee) ; Omelková, Jiřina (advisor)
This thesis deals with still less expolited species of small fruit, evaluation of its physical and chemical parameters and proposal of a new soft drink from one of the studied species of furit. Firstly, for the characterisation of basic nutrition parameters (dry matter, content of organic acids and saccharides) and biologicaly active substances (vitamin C, anthocyanins and phenolic compounds) suitable titration, spectrophotometric, chromatographic and electrophoretic methods were chosen, optimized and validated. The sample preparation procedure was optimized as well. For three years (2010–2012) the content of listed parameters was monitored in some cultivars of five species of small fruit: in seven cultivars of sea buckthorn, in ten cultivars of cornelian cherry, in twelve cultivars of rowanberry, in two cultivars of chokeberry and in seventeen cultivars of elderberry. By means of Duncan’s test, analysis of principal components (PCA) and cluster analysis (CLU) the main differences between studied cultivars were observed mainly in sea buckthorn and rowanberry, where single cultivars were easily distinguishable from others on the basis of genetic origin. On the basis of comparison of determined parameters in studied species of fruit and with collaboration with fruit processing company the suitable species of fruit for commercial utilization was chosen – elderberry, as a important source of anthocyanins and phenolic compounds. A new soft drink as a proposal of utilization of this fruit was created – fruit juice or nectar with portion of elderberry juice. Mixed juices and nectars with various composition were prepared from elderberry and grape juice and the sensory analysis of these drinks was performed. The best evaluated were 100% fruit juices prepared with 30–50% portion of elderberry juice. The composition was jurally protected. On the basis of this protection the product consisted from 100% fruit juice with 10% of elderberry component mixed with apple and grape juice was introduced to the market by the fruit processing company.

Motion in Faulkner: An Analysis of Movement in The Sound and the Fury
Hesová, Petra ; Ulmanová, Hana (advisor) ; Matthews, John Thomas (referee)
The Gothic is an extremely viable mode in the history of American literature. As a genre concerned principally with distortions and aberrations, it provides a platform for writers to voice their concerns about periods of transformation and destabilized boundaries. William Faulkner, one of the leading authors of the American South, frequently employs the Gothic mode in his portrayals of the South as a traumatized region trying to cope with the echoes of the Civil War and with the disintegration of old aristocratic values, which manifests itself in the decay of institutions (such as the family) as well as a collapse of individual minds. This emphasis on the human psyche is evident especially in the novel The Sound and the Fury, whose main characters and narrators are representatives of the various extremities of the human psyche (severe mental retardation, suicidal tendencies, schizophrenia and paranoia). Faulkner's use of the Gothic mode is rather unorthodox and innovative, employing inversions and parody which can be appropriately demonstrated by the category of motion and his use of the traditional Gothic devices and character types. The traditional motion patterns - flight and pursuit, quest and purposeless wandering - that are originally connected predominantly with only one Gothic type (the...
