Vliv růstových regulátorů na proteom rostlin v průběhu klíčení
Habánová, Hana
Seed germination is a complex process during which an embryonic plant contained within a seed transforms into a seedling. The majority of species, including model plant Arabidopsis thaliana produce dry seeds that will fully re-establish metabolism after imbibition. This early phase of a plant's life is highly important for its survival and its progress depends on both internal and external stimuli. This thesis entitled "Effects of plant growth regulators on proteome dynamics during seed germination" is focused on effects of light and plant growth regulators on germination. To get an insight into molecular mechanism of germination, proteome dynamics in germinating Arabidopsis were investigated. Seeds were imbibed in presence of plant growth regulators in continuous light or dark and material for LC-MS proteome profiling was harvested after 24 and 48 hours. Altogether, abundances of more than 1100 proteins were followed. PCA analysis and a detailed pair-wise comparison of mock-treated seeds provided evidence that the modern proteome-wide analysis is a promising tool for plant germination research.

A group of the created programs and their outputs were used directly in physics teaching at the elementary school and the lower level of grammar schools. Efficiency of the programs was proved by pedagogical test.

Shape, size and proportions of lower limb long bones among human populations from Eneolithic to the Modern Era.
Šídová, Markéta ; Velemínský, Petr (advisor) ; Brůžek, Jaroslav (referee)
Differences in the lifestyle of various populations may lead to changes in the shape of the long limb bones. This involves a reaction to the degree of mechanical and environmental stress acting upon these bones. Our work examined changes in the shape, proportions and size of the lower limb long bones (femur, tibia) over roughly the past five thousand years, or more precisely from the later phase of the Early Stone Age up to the 20th century. We studied the femurs and tibias of a total 520 adult individuals − 313 males and 207 females − from seven different periods or rather archaeological cultures. Our evaluation was based on the external, linear dimensions of the bones studied. Biological parameters were evaluated in relation to sexual dimorphism and lateral asymmetry. We paid special attention to the degree of flattening of the proximal third of the femoral and tibial shafts. Sexual dimorphism differed in individual populations. We found the least statistically significant parameters of sexual dimorphism in the oldest, Eneolithic, samples. In contrast, both sexes differed in the greatest number of parameters in the Early Middle Ages. Lateral asymmetry was most frequently demonstrated for the width dimensions in the case of the femoral and tibial diaphyses, which are in complete concurrence with...

While you are holding this work in your hands you will find the material which tries to impartially get closer to the aspects appearing in addition to the development of the modern information technologies and so as to bring changes to the trends in thinking and diversification of the society. In this work you will meet terms as information, knowledge, communication, mass media, creation of subculture and phenomenon of cyberspace. At firt this work pays attention to the clearing up of information essence for the run of the society and it is also connected with the process of the communication. For making connection there is further description of the development of single medial epochs which were creating suitable place for the development of the human society going up to today's electronic times with the active information content and mass medial way of the communication. To sum up the whole work ends with the critical summary of the trends of today's society and outline their possible solution. The society still has great reserves in taking advantage of the potential of the modern technologies which we are supposed to support by the proper stimulation of the critical thinking its public.

Rethinking the Animal: Post-Humanist Tendencies in (Post) Modern Literature
Gridneva, Yana ; Vichnar, David (advisor) ; Procházka, Martin (referee)
This thesis posits post-humanism as a philosophy that engages directly with the problem of anthropocentrism and is concerned primarily with the metaphysics of subjectivity. It studies five literary texts (James Joyce's Ulysses, Virginia Woolf's Flush, Djuna Barnes' Nightwood, Brigid Brophy's Hackenfeller's Ape and J.M. Coetzee's Elizabeth Costello: Eight Lessons) that challenge the humanistic or classical subject through critical engagement with what this subject traditionally saw as its antithesis - the animal. These texts contest various fixed assumptions about animality and disrupt the status-quo of the human. Breaking with the tradition that treats animals exclusively as a metaphor for the human, they attempt to see and understand animality outside the framework of anthropocentric suppositions. This project aims to describe the strategies these texts employ to conceptualize animality as well as the methods they apply to delineate its subversive potential and to disrupt the human- animal binary. Its theoretical framework combines the work of thinkers belonging to the new but thriving field of Animal Studies with the ideas of Jacques Derrida, Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari. It is this project's great ambition to contribute towards the development of new post- humanist ethics defined by its...

Analysis of some biologicaly active components in natural plant extracts
Kováčová, Ivana ; Márová, Ivana (referee) ; Němcová, Andrea (advisor)
This thesis is focused on the study of the effectiveness of active ingredients from natural extracts such as milk thistle and turmeric. The thesis describes the use of modern methods of analysis and identification of active substances located in plants of milk thistle and turmeric. In the experimental part of thesis, which was preceded by a literature search focused on the biological effects of active substances in the chosen natural extracts, the extracts were characterized according to group characteristics (total assessment of polyphenols and flavonoids, assessment of antioxidant activity, and assessment of vitamin C volume and tocopherol). The next part is focused on the study of the encapsulation of natural active substances into the organic particles: liposomes. Silymarin and curcumin were encapsulated as active substances. The idea of a plant with a single active ingredient is usually erroneous. Plants usually contain hundreds of components which cooperate on a given effect. Therefore, the majority of herbalists believe that a simple plant is an active ingredient. However, some plants are known to be containing a particular active phytochemical. For instance, plants such as the milk thistle, turmeric, or a ginkgo are great examples of the plant containing a particular active phytochemical. In these cases, the active compound is disproportionately more effective than the plant itself. Encapsulation efficiency of active ingredients of Silymarin and curcumin was determined by HPLC/PDA. The aim of the analysis was to observe the behavior of elements during the incubation in surrounding of gastric juice model, and the stability while maintaining the particles in model food.

Dynamika živých organismů
Vondrák, Marek ; Pelikán, Josef (advisor) ; Kavan, Ladislav (referee)
The computer animation of articulated figures is one of the most interesting and the most developing areas of the modern computer graphics. The goal of this thesis is to get the reader acquainted with the theory of constrained rigid body simulation, which is subsequently used to construct a generic rigid body simulator with constraints and friction and the figure library suitable for the animation of articulated human-like figures. Articulated figures are represented by sets of rigid bodies (segments) connected by joints and their motion is determined by the dynamics of the corresponding segments. Additional constraints, specifying e.g. desired angles at joints or the positions of selected sites on the surface of the figure segments, allow to control the figure motion. A rich set of interactive demonstration examples presents the features of the actual simulator and the capabilities of the figure library to process motion capture data (replay motion capture data, adapt the data to external influences, map the "raw" motion capture data to the motion of figure segments, etc).
