Schovancová, Hana ; Rybák, David (advisor) ; Kubišová, Zuzana (referee)
In my thesis, I tried to describe the process of transformation of premodern and modern society focusing on the creation and development of a new spirituality. In this context, I further came with a terminological definition of the phenomenon. Next the work deals with the sphere of the new spirituality in the form of sects. First of all sects are taken in generally, so that the whole theme can be dealt in its width. Subsequently, my work focuses on the topic of Jehovah`s Witnesses in attempt to determine the extent of this society as a sect. Within each chapter it is possible to see the sect in terms of attractiveness, dynamics of group functioning or for example dependence, manipulation and insecurity. In the chapter called Jehovah's Witnesses the overall picture is completed. This religious society is presented based on its historical development, description of the life of Jehovah's Witnesses members and also through its activities in the Czech Republic. The conclusion contains evaluation of this religious organization including general assessment of the importance of sects. Keywords Religionistic, religion, sects, Jehova's Wittnesses, moderni

Theatre Studio Reduta as an example of modernistic utopia
Jiřík, Jan ; Hyvnar, Jan (advisor) ; Pilátová, Jana (referee) ; Oslzlý, Petr (referee)
1 ABSTRACT This thesis describes the theatre reform at the turn of 19th and 20th century in its wider sociocultural concept. It focuses on the reaction of theatre to the modernistic crisis of European culture and society. Modernism is understood here according to its wider thematic and chronological definition. Modernism is based on the conception of machine civilization as it was defined by a Polish sociologist Jerzy Jedlicki. Jedlicki places the rise of modernistic cultural formation into the second half of 18th century which is when a steam engine was invented and it was a time of social turbulence and changes in human spirituality. Another theoretical frame of the thesis is created by utopia phenomenon as it was defined by Jerzy Szacki. Second half of 20th century is considered to be the end of modernism, inasmuch the utopic visions which had been placed on theatre faded away. The main topic of the thesis is Juliusz Osterwa's and Mieczyslaw Limanowski's theatre studio Reduta. It was founded in Warsaw in 1919 and it was to a great extend inspired by Moscow theatre studios of Stanislavsky and by Polish theatre sources (Stanislaw Wyspianski). By studying selected examples, the thesis studies Reduta as a realisation of modernistic utopia when theatre was supposed to carry a special mission in renaissance of...

Honour and virtue in signo temporis. On examples of female figures in G. E. Lessings's, F. Hebbel's and A. Schnitzler's works.
Poláčková, Zuzana ; Zbytovský, Štěpán (advisor) ; Weinberg, Manfred (referee)
The subject of this thesis was virtue and honour in signo temporis. It means that I've tried to focus on the concept of virtue and honour in a certain time period. I have chosen three different literary periods and three works as their representatives. It was the bourgeois tragedy "Emilia Galotti" by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, as the representative of the Enlightenment. For the first half of the 19th century I've chosen also a bourgeois tragedy "Maria Magdalena" by Friedrich Hebbel. And as the third example I analysed the novella "Fräulein Else" by Arthur Schnitzler. All of the three heroines are daugthers, who are strongly influenced by this fact. All of them find a tragic end. Two of them commit suicide and one persuades her own father to kill her. The fathers are also an important part of the plot, because their largely contribute to death of their daughters. Emilia in "Emilia Galotti" is stabbed by her own father, after she persuades him to kill her, because she is afraid of losing her virtue, which is at that times related with religion and identified with chastity. In the first half of the 19th century the religious aspect was still a part of the concept of virtue and honour. But the honour was now perceived more in the way of reputation. Klara in "Maria Magdalena", who lost her virtue by...

The thesis discusses Chalupecký within a broader contemporary context, and uses comparative method to illustrate the complexity of Chalupecký's thought together with the concept of new mythology he shared with some of his contemporaries. The thesis consists of three parts which freely correspond to the sequential progression of Chalupecký's thought and his conception of the avant-garde. The thesis stresses the originality of Chalupecký's approach to modern art, and considers its colorful manifestations.
The Czech and German kabaret scene within Czech culture in the first two decades of the 20th century
Poštulková, Marta ; Just, Vladimír (advisor) ; Augustová, Zuzana (referee)
This thesis deals with Czech and German cabaret shows on the Bohemian land in the first two decades of the 20th century . The thesis first familiarizes the reader with the history of Czech cabaret - with first such establishments in Prague and the very birth of this performance type here. Then some space is devoted to the most important of Prague' s theatres - Lucerna, Rokoko, Červená sedma and Montmartre - and their comparison. More theatres are spoken about later on, both Czech and foreign. Then, several prominent figures of cabaret theatre are characterised and it is also analyzed how they influenced each other and the cabaret itself. The very last part details the circumstances that ultimately led to downfall of most cabaret theatres in the twenties and evaluates contributions cabaret might mean for the future.
