VOYAGER MESSAGE
Čápová, Klára Anna ; Egorova, Julia (advisor) ; Beseda, Jan (referee)
The theme of this work is the Voyager message that the U.S. National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA) sent to the universe in 1977 on interstellar probes Voyager I and Voyager II. Voyager message consists of a phonograph record - called Golden Record - that carries a message for extraterrestrial civilization. The work provides the basic overview of scientific search for extraterrestrial life and describes the NASA Voyager program. Except for the basic overview of the message contents, the work offers an analysis of both visual and audio parts of the Voyager Message compilation. It employs the anthropology of science as an essential theoretical framework for examining the message contents. The work explores the reflections of scientific viewpoint and supposes science as the fundamental concept that shaped the composition of the Golden Record and considers mathematics as an universal tool of interstellar communication efforts.

Rotor Slot Shape Optimization of an Induction Machine
Szekeres, Vojtech ; Ondrůšek, Čestmír (referee) ; Bárta, Jan (advisor)
This thesis is dealing with optimization by using artificial intelligence of an induction machine rotor slot. The one optimized is commonly manufactured induction motor with simple deep bar rotor. Goal is to design an optimization method and achieve the highest possible value of efficiency and power factor of chosen machine. Work contains the parametric model construction in Ansys Maxwell software, the optimization algorithm assembly and its setup for desirable output, and processing of the results.

NATO Transformation and the Capability Gap
Ruml, Ken ; Plechanovová, Běla (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee)
The present Master Thesis is a macro-level comparative case study that addresses the problem of most member states' lack of adequate motivation to acquire innovative military capabilities and contribute them to the North Atlantic Alliance. There has been a significant gap between NATO's ambition and its military capability since at least the 1999 Kosovo Crisis. Even today, a couple of years after the adoption of the longawaited new Strategic Concept, which confirmed NATO's role in crisis management beyond its borders, the evaluations of the recent NATO operation in Libya hint to fact that the gap persists. The question is: what factors play the most significant role in shaping state behaviour within NATO and what can be done to stimulate the member states' proactive attitude? The problem is addressed through the prism of Neorealism, which emphasizes structural constraints of state behaviour, and Constructivism, which, for its part, highlights the importance of domestic factors, namely state identity. Based on the results of the fuzzy-set analysis, it is argued that the harmonization of NATO's and EU's capability development initiatives, as well as the eventual military integration of lower-capability NATO member states is most likely to reset the balance between the Alliance's ambition and available...

Interpretation of Freedom in the Work of Jan Hus and his Sources at St. Augustinus
Schmitzer, Jiří ; Blažková, Miloslava (advisor) ; Hogenová, Anna (referee)
The paper focus on Jan Hus and T.G.Masaryk and their contribution to the Czech philosophy. The emphasis is given mainly to the parts of their lives and work which include timeless moral message. The reflection of the Hus' and Masaryk's works follows approach and intepretation of Erazim Kohák's books. With their help the paper tries to indentify meaning of Czechness as it was defined and shaped by Masaryk and Hus.

Circularly polarized dielectric resonator antenna
Zechmeister, Jaroslav ; Kufa, Martin (referee) ; Mrnka, Michal (advisor)
This thesis discusses the design circularly polarized dielectric resonator antennas for ISM band 5,8 GHz. In this work are explained and compared different ways of resonator feeding. There are also discussed the possibility of generating a circular polarization from a aperture feeding. Two methods of generating circular polarization in dielectric resonator antennas are simulated in CST Microwave Studio. This methods are C-shaped slot and cross slot. For antenna with cross slot feeding is also simulated effect of the manufacturing process to characteristics proposed antenna. The antenna is made, measured and the results are compared with simulations.

The Transformation of the U.S. Labor Market during the Period 1939-1945
Šafařík, Martin ; Johnson, Zdenka (advisor) ; Tajovský, Ladislav (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the influence of the Second World War on the labor market in the USA. In addition to explaining changes to the labor market as a whole, an emphasis is put on the labor market with regard to specific relevant minorities (namely women, Americans of Japanese descent and Afro-Americans). The main part of each chapter is devoted to sector changes in employment on the supply side of the market. This thesis indicates that the circumstances of the Second World War and the Postwar Era greatly shaped the circumstances of the U.S. labor market during these periods. Employment during this time also demonstrated characteristics of being affected greatly by these significant events. The results of this thesis also indicate that the Second World War in the context of the labor market contributed to breaking certain social barriers connected to the process of employment, which in turn accelerated the social evolution of some groups.

The effects of Western broadcasting on the Soviet people in Glasnost and Perestroika Period : The Case of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty
Konovalova, Evgenija ; Kolenovská, Daniela (advisor) ; Vykoukal, Jiří (referee)
ii Abstract This research project explores the impact of Western broadcasting on the public opinion of the Soviet audience in the Perestroika and Glasnost periods. Specifically, it focuses on Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's (RFE/RL) contribution to changing attitudes of the Soviet public to the communist regime and ruling party, and constructing a positive image of Western democratic values during the relevant period of study. The theoretical approach to the investigation of RFE/RL broadcasting is based on media effects theories, particularly agenda-setting and framing theories. According to them, the media are not simply a conduit of information, but able to shape public opinion. By emphasising the salience of topics and particular aspects and characteristics of the issues, the media set public agenda and influence on people's perceptions about these issues. The study to assess RFE/RL's impact draws on audience research, quantitative and qualitative data analysis. It examines geographical reach and transmission frequencies of the Radio's broadcasts and analyses the content of the most featured programmes to explore how they framed the reality. The findings from the quantitative and qualitative analysis, as well as the audience research data, demonstrate that RFE/RL's programming set anticommunist agenda...

Gnoseological aspects of Advertisement and Illustrative Photos in Regard to Male and Female Elements
Serbusová, Monika ; Vančát, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Hájek, Václav (referee)
The "Gnoseological aspects of advertisement and illustrative photo with regard to men and women elements" bachelor thesis deals with how certain groups of population perceive visual elements, concretely image advertisement and illustration photography. The research made for the needs of this thesis is based on the hypothesis that media can not only reflect the perception of gender roles, but also contribute to the making of their actual shape. The categories of conceptions that people use when describing visual elements can tell us something about the connection of media, human culture and society. Such a finding is in my view very well useable in a much wider than just gender context. The research took place among university students of bachelor program at Faculty of humanity studies, Charles University, with the aim of ascertain whether some differences between perception of women and men will come to light.
