Dependency between Deflation and Recession in Japan over the Past Two Decades
Vopat, Daniel ; Ryska, Pavel (advisor) ; Franče, Václav (referee)
Aim of this bachelor's thesis is to find out if and in what manner has been the real GDP growth influenced by change of price level in Japan during last twenty years. This period is in Japan characteristic by economic stagnation often accompanied by deflation. Many economists and politicians presume that deflation keeps Japanese economy from growing again and they consider deflation to be an undesirable element that needs to be prevented. We use methods of econometric analysis to achieve our goal. To be more specific we use ordinary least squares estimation on quarterly data. The model is estimated in two ways to prevent possible influence of world economic crisis in 2008 and 2009. First model takes into account all collected data and second model drops out data from world economic crisis period. According to the first mentioned model analysis, the fourth lag of price level is negatively correlated with real GDP growth on 5 % significance level. To put it in another way, deflation was followed by acceleration of quarterly real GDP growth. This correlation was insignificant in the second model. Our research indicates that there is no reason to consider deflation being the cause of long lasting economic stagnation. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Špánová, Kateřina ; Hejlová, Denisa (advisor) ; Dolanský, Pavel (referee)
The topic of marketing communication activities between Japan and the Czech Republic has despite of all important economical links of the two countries not yet been deeply analysed. The goal of this work is to examine the major communication activities advertising the Japanese culture to the Czech audience. It also includes an insight into the cultures, their similarities and differences and how these affect the mutual communication. Japan and the Czech Republic have started mutual relations during the 1st World War, keeping them friendly for most of the future time regardless to political changes that haven't always been favourable. After the Velvet Revolution and re-creation of Czechoslovakia (splitting into the Czech and the Slovak republic later on), the Czech-Japanese Association and the Japan Information and Culture Centre emerged - they are now two organizations with different backgrounds yet similar goals: to help building mutual relations of the two countries and to introduce the Japanese culture in Czech republic in its wide range. Černá, Jana ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Sekera, Martin (referee)
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to characterize how the media reflection of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings, their circumstances and consequences, changed within years 1945-2010 in the Czechoslovak and Czech media. While assessing the scale of the change, the political context is taken in mind. The work deals with accuracy, timeliness and potential bias of articles from the daily newspapers Rudé právo, Svobodné slovo and Lidová demokracie; later replacing these with Právo, Mladá fronta Dnes and Lidové noviny. It assesses relevant articles published in the chosen dailies in the period between 22nd July and 30th August 1945 (i.e. two weeks before and three weeks after the first attack to provide the necessary context) and within 1st to 14th August of each tenth anniversary, i.e. in years 1955, 1965, 1975, 1985, 1995, 2005 and to be most current, also in 2010. The thesis includes the list of all analysed articles. In the analysis attention was also given to the increase or decline in number of the news reports. To enable the comparison of the actual events with their media image, a historical chapter precedes the analysis as such. A chapter on the media reflection in 1945 follows, as well as the one that deals with the period of 1955-1985. The changes in the Czech media concerning...
Japonisms in the czech architecture at the beginning of the 20th century - group around Joe Hloucha
Chýlová, Lenka ; Czumalo, Vladimír (advisor) ; Šmied, Miroslav (referee)
In my thesis, I will be focusing on the impact and influence of Japanese culture on the Czech lands, particularly demonstrating this on the architecture of the beginning of the twentieth century. I will point out the importance of breaking of the eternal Japan's isolation from the outside world and its subsequent opening to the western culture. I will demonstrate this fact on a presentation containing extracts from the EXPO exhibitions and on the current of Japanese artistic objects and their influence on the artists as well as on the general public. I will be focusing on the personality of the writer, collector, a well-known japanophile and a promulgator of the land of Nippon, Joe Hloucha, who brought this culture to the public not only through his novels but through buildings and constructions built in the first half of the twentieth century as well. As a conclusion of my thesis, I will try to make a summary of Hloucha's view of Japan and its culture. Keywords architecture, japonisms, Japan, Czech lands, Joe Hloucha

Horák, Milan ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kučerová, Irah (referee)
History of international relations suggests that rising power brings challenges and creates unstable environment in the international system. This thesis deals with the rise of China and its implications to the East Asia region. China has experienced massive economic growth over the last few decades which is likely to influence the dynamics not only of the region, but also of the international system as a whole. There is an ongoing discussion in the academic literature regarding the rise of China. In this thesis, the offensive neorealism theory of John J, Mearsheimer is employed. This paper focuses on the region of East Asia, namely to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. Since the region is heavily penetrated by the US power, its position is also discussed. The question is how China will behave when it gets more powerful and what strategies the neighbouring countries choose in order to deal with China's rising power. The theory assumes that rising great power strive to dominate its region in order to establish regional hegemony. The main aim of this thesis is to examine whether or not the aforementioned states act according to the prism of offensive neorealism.

(Non-)Existence of Populism in Modern Japan
Petrželková, Eva ; Karmazin, Aleš (advisor) ; Charvát, Jan (referee)
The word 'populism' has lately been frequently appearing in political discourse all over the world. The word is most often associated with certain persons, such as Donald Trump, Marine LePen, or Andrej Babiš. The reason for this shift in discourse is the fact that many Western countries have been plagued by a wave of (right-wing) populism, for which traditional parties have not found a solution yet. One of the few countries with western-style democracy which has so far been able to avoid this wave is Japan. The goal of this thesis is to find out why that is, and whether there might be any mechanisms within the Japanese political system which prevent the populist phenomenon. The thesis analyzes typical characteristics of populism based on literature about the theory of populism.
