Numerické řešení stlačitelného proudění
Prokopová, Jaroslava ; Dolejší, Vít (referee) ; Feistauer, Miloslav (advisor)
This work deals with the problem of inviscid, compressible flow in a time-dependent domain. We describe mathematical properties of the Euler equations and the system of governing equations is solved with the aid of the discontinuous Galerkin finite element method (DGFEM) in the time-indepentent domain. The main aim of this work is the study of this problem in time-dependent domains. For this reason the Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) method is presented. The governing equations are formulated in the ALE formulation and discretized in space and time by the DGFEM. Shortly we mention the shock capturing of the obtained scheme and the solution of the resulting linear system with the aid of Generalized Minimal Residual (GMRES) method. At the end of this work we present and compare results obtained by two different ALE formulations of the governing equations in the rectangular domain with a moving part of lower wall.

The long-term consumption of ethanol by pregnant or nursing rat mothers results in extensive damage of the hippocampal area in their offspring. The histochemical methods combining bis-benzimide 33342 (Hoechst) and Fluoro-Jade B staining were used to detect ethanol effects on the structure of the rat hippocampus and gyrus dentatus during development and adult age (18, 35, 90 and 360 days old offspring). In all experimental groups, in all analyzed areas, degenerative changes were observed, loss of pyramidal and granular cells and neural cells with segmented nuclei. In animals, whose mothers drunk 20% ethanol, structural changes were more intensive when compared with the group consuming 10% ethanol. The highest density of the degenerating (FJ/B positive) cells was found in 18-days-old animals whose mothers were exposed to 20% ethanol. In the age of 90 and 360 days no degenerating cells were identified in the monitored areas. With respect to the properties of the ethanol and mechanism of its effect we suppose that exposure to ethanol during the perinatal period induced the neural cell loss by apoptotic mechanism. From the results of the work can be concluded: 1. The perinatal exposure to ethanol results in degeneration of neural cells in the hippocampus and gyrus dentatus (working hypothesis I was confirmed)....

Impact of floods on the property market in Prague
Timko, Peter ; Melichar, Jan (advisor) ; Kaprová, Kateřina (referee)
Master's thesis is focused on the problem of the economic impacts of floods on the property market in Prague. Aim of this work is to clarify whether the floods affect the price of real estate and to what extent. Hypothesis is that floods affect the price of property in flood plains. This effect is determined by the hedonic price model (HPM) for the analysis of secondary data. The theoretical part explains the risk of flooding and floodplains mapping. This section further explains the whole hedonic model and reviewed studies provide a research procedure outside the Czech Republic region. The practical part deals with the exploratory analysis, regression analysis and hedonic price modeling based on the implicit price of flooding. Finding of the thesis is the fact that property prices in Prague are affected by the Q100 flood plains resulting in positive and negative impact confirmed by a log-log weighted least squares regression model. It is shown that implicit price of flooding far exceeds the cost of building flood protection measures in Prague.

Relational Modeling of Biological Data
Krejčík, Roman ; Toman, Kamil (referee) ; Pokorný, Jaroslav (advisor)
Some applications of data processing in database systems work with hierarchically structured data. Information of such kind is often present in biological data, but it can be also found in another scope. An efficient execution of queries specific for hierarchy needs proper representation of graph structures in a relational database. This thesis deals with a description of known methods for storing of hierarchical data into a relational database. It aims particularly to distinct properties of separate methods and examines fitness of usage for various hierarchies. The thesis includes experiments with real collections of biological data, which are used to compare effectiveness of particular methods in practical way.

Expression of cytokines, particularly chemokines, after application of acyclic nucleoside phosphonates
Potměšil, Petr ; Zídek, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Otová, Berta (referee) ; Farghali, Hassan (referee)
Acyclic nucleoside phosphonates (ANPs) are novel class of virostatics, that inhibit replication of both DNA viruses and retroviruses. ANP approved for the treatment of viral diseases are: tenofovir (Viread®) for the therapy of AIDS, adefovir (Hepsera®) for the treatment of hepatitis B and cidofovir (Vistide®), that is used in HIV-1 positive patients suffering from retinitis caused by cytomegalovirus [23, 24]. Some ANPs, such as tenofovir, are endowed by immunomodulatory properties that can non specifically influence replication of viruses. Tenofovir has been shown previously to increase gene expression of nitric oxide, cytokines TNF- , IL-10 and chemokines RANTES, MIP-1 [6, 22, 30]. In present experiments we investigated possible immunobiological properties of newly synthesized derivatives of ANPs in vitro using mouse macrophages and lymphocytes (or human leukocytes, respectively). N6-substituted derivatives of adenine or 2,6-diaminopurine, that possess phosphonomethoxyethyl or phosphonomethoxypropyl moiety at the position N9 of the heterocyclic base were included in the study. Some of these compounds were found to activate production of nitric oxide, cytokines TNF- , IL-10 and chemokines RANTES, MIP- 1 [21]. Various hydroxylated derivatives of ANPs were also screened for their immunobiological potential....

Walter Benjamin's philosophy of language
Ritter, Martin ; Petříček, Miroslav (advisor) ; Thein, Karel (referee) ; Stromšík, Jiří (referee)
The work analyzes Walter Benjamin's philosophy oflanguage presenting it as an ontological and cognitive basis ofhis early thought (1916-1925). The investigation starts from a detailed study of an unpublished reflection On language as Such and on the Language of Man. The analysis of the text contrasts its metaphysical interpretation with its deconstructive reading opting for a hermeneutical approach. Benjamin's philosophy of language is presented as a theory in which all being is conceived as language. Benjamin not only constructs a metaphysical conception according to which all human beings express themselves to God by naming existing things, but simultaneously defines constitutive property of (all) language, namely its "immediacy", i.e. the fact that language is primarily not a medium of communication. However, the text On language describes also a (biblical) fall which causes a loss of immediacy and a rise of the multiplicity of languages. The area of (fallen) plurality of languages is investigated in the The Tas k of the Translator, which focuses on the relation and kinship of languages. This kinship is based on the fact that alllanguages want to say the same thing, namely the "pure language". The analysis of The Task of the Translator stresses the semantic and, in this sense, conceptual aspect of...

Marketing and business ethics in branches protected by copyright

The thesis is focused on an analysis of marketing tools and business policies, applied on the field of commercial publishing. First part is dedicated to an analysis of the copyright law that affects the activity of this sort of companies. It includes an explanation of the most important parts of the copyright law that is valid in the Czech Republic. There is a display of important international standards, considering the issues of intellectual property. The second chapter relates to the theory of marketing and ethical issues of commercial and business activities. It includes a definition of basic terms, marketing tools, and a step-by-step clarification related to developing a marketing strategy. The end of this chapter summarizes the options of using marketing tools in publishing. Eventually, the thesis deals with pieces of knowledge, gained during its writing. Two different ways of creating a marketing strategy for the Knižní klub publishing company are considered in the end of the thesis. Both ways are described in detail, and compared to each other.

English infinitives in adverbial function and their translation counterparts
Vašková, Petra ; Brůhová, Gabriela (referee) ; Šaldová, Pavlína (advisor)
My bachelor thesis will deal with the English infinitive in adverbial function and its translation counterparts in Czech. An infinitive in adverbial function mostly expresses purpose, effect, intention, cause or concession, in the beginning of the clause it may function as a conjunct or style disjunct. In Czech, these adverbial functions are implied mainly by a finite dependent clause. The main aim of the theoretical introduction is, firstly, to describe and analyse functions of the infinitive in English syntax. The infinitive will be presented in a broader context, i.e., within the concept of complex condensation, especially with the focus on its grammatical qualities. A comparison between English and Czech condensators will be made, as the analytical and synthetic nature of those languages, respectively, represents fertile grounds for comparison. English, with its preference of nominal constructions and reduced dynamism of the finite verb will be compared with Czech, where the lack of preference for nominal constructions can be observed. Further on, we will examine the difference between finite and non-finite verb forms in order to illustrate their properties and point out the syntactic and morphological differences between the two. Distinction between the grammatical categories will prepare the ground...
