Operationalization in Social Science: Philosophy of Science Underpinnings and Selected Approaches
Röschová, Michaela ; Buriánek, Jiří (advisor) ; Vinopal, Jiří (referee)
The bachelor thesis pursues the issue of forms and functions of operationalization in social science in relation to its assumptions formed on the basis of philosophy of science conceptions. It shows that the problem was historically shaped by logical empiricism and in spite of the rejection of basic aspects of this position, its influence can still be detected in some approaches to operationalization. As a framework for drawing up operational definitions enabling to step aside from remaining tendencies of logical empiricism the methodological impulses stemming from the realist philosophy of science are brought forward. The first chapter points out to the fact that comparatively little attention has been given to the issue of operationalization in the general methodology of social sciences and presents an overview of plausible explanations of this situation. After that, a standard model of the process of operationalization is outlined together with various conceptions of conditions of its application. The clarification of the philosophy of science basis of operationalization taking place in subsequent parts is therefore expected to provide at least a partial explanation of the little attention given to operationalization. Above all, it aims to set a firm ground for the grasp of various contents of...

Generalization and specification of lexical meaning in contemporary translation of fiction
Kubáčková, Jana ; Jettmarová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Čermák, František (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to discuss the notions of generalization and specification as universal trends in translation and potential candidates for the status of universals of translation. Methods used in empirical research are also discussed in some detail. Chapters 1 and 2 focus on generalization and specification in the context of Descriptive Translation Studies, Corpus-Based Translation Studies and the work of the translation scholar Jiří Levý. Chapter 2 further attempts to present a comprehensive picture of both potential universals by examining the notion of lexical meaning and the issue of synonymy in the context of lexicology and stylistics. Finally, it draws attention to typological (systemic) differences between Czech and English and the impact these differences have on shifts of lexical meaning in terms of generalization/specification and on the use of electronic corpora. Chapter 3 outlines the three following stages of empirical research in terms of materials and methods. It presents a description of the three sets of corpora (a large monolingual comparable corpus, a parallel unidirectional English-Czech corpus, and a parallel corpus of one original and two translations), the choice of texts, reference corpora and corpus-processing software tools. Texts analysed in the three types of corpora...

Tejralová, Pavlína ; Kalinová, Miluše (advisor) ; Koucká, Jiřina (referee)
I have my thesis dividend into two parts. In the first part (theory) I tried to draw up the legal background of the winding up of the commercial company, then I aimed to general aspects of the winding up with liquidation (general reasons for winding up, liquidator, insolvency proceeding), specifics of the winding up with liquidation appertaining to particular type of commercial company and finally I described the winding up of the company with the legal successor (legal forms of conversions). In the second part I made up an imaginary limited lability company (I couldn't get any real dates from the existing company because they are all subject of business secret) and tried to illustrate the process of winding up of the company with liquidation. I put emphasis on particular steps of liquidator and the formal standpoints of the liquidation process.

Testing of raster to vector graphics conversion software products
Mináriková, Monika ; Šedivá, Zuzana (advisor) ; Kunstová, Renáta (referee)
This work is mainly focused on testing of software for conversion between raster and vector graphics. It is divided into two parts. In methodological part there are stated the ways of storing image data in the computer. It explains the differences among basic types of computer graphics, raster and vector, and characterizes their well-known formats. Practical part deals with testing and comparing selected SW supporting the process of tracing. Based on the results, general conclusions about the possibilities, which offer this way of automatic vectorization, are determined. For evaluating and comparing the SW multi-criteria evaluation based on a five-point scale is chosen. The parameters of the evaluation are then divided into two categories: the evaluation of the SW and the outputs from the tracing process. Four types of graphics are chosen for the tracing: a simple black-and-white logo, a full-color logo, a line drawing, and a photograph with a simple motif. The conclusion of the thesis summarizes and evaluates all the results.

The Analysis of Selfmedication in outpatients treated for arterial Hypertension
Hejdová, Irena ; Fialová, Daniela (referee) ; Macek, Karel (advisor)
This thesis describes self-medication practices in a sample of 67 patients treated for arterial hypertension attending the Advisory centre of clinical pharmacology in a Teaching Hospital in Hradec Králové. We survey both common aspects of self-medication such as how often patients use over-the-counter (OTC) agents, for which health problems, which are the main groups of OTC, they use, how much they spend for OTC and where they get information about them, and more specific aspects, which are related with the fact, that these patients are at higher risk of self-medication because of their permanent antihypertensive farmacotherapy. The survey showed, that 82% of the patients with arterial hypertension use OTC - 29% of them often or constantly. However, behaviour of these patients in self-medication is not without risks. For example only 18% of patients using OTC inform their physician about all preparations. 18% of patients are not interested in safety of OTC, they use, and only 31% of them inform their pharmacist of diseases, they are treated for, and prescription medicines, they use. The survey implied, that the safe self-medication of hypertensive patients requires better education of this group of patients, which needs assistance both from physicians and from pharmacists.
