The Multiplicity of Being: The Ontology of Alain Badiou
Pivoda, Tomáš ; Petříček, Miroslav (advisor) ; Kouba, Petr (referee) ; Pechar, Jiří (referee)
Tomáš Pivoda, The Multiplicity of Being: The Ontology of Alain Badiou PhD thesis Abstract The thesis introduces for the first time in the Czech philosophical context the ontology of the French philosopher Alain Badiou, as he set it out in his fundamental work Being and Event (L'être et l'événement, 1988). It first presents the starting point of Badiou's philosophy as well as the reasons of his identification of ontology with the set theory, and it points out Badiou's importance for contemporary philosophy, especially for the so called speculative realism around Quentin Meillassoux. The main axis of the exposition is then built around Badiou's four fundamental "Ideas": the multiplicity, the event, the truths and the subject, in connection with which it is shown how Badiou constructs his conceptual apparatus out of individual axioms of the set theory, whereby he follows the basic formal definition of multiplicity based on the operator . In connection with∈ the first Idea of multiplicity, the thesis exposes - with references to Martin Heidegger and Plato - Badiou's conceptual transposition of the couple one/multiple on the couple existence/being and defines the fundamental concepts of his ontology - the situation, the presentation, the representation and the void, with the help of which Badiou interprets...

Vratislav Effenberger's poetry and its ideologic context
Caňko, Miloslav ; Vojvodík, Josef (advisor) ; Bílek, Petr (referee)
This study contains an analysis of the poetry of Vratislav Effenberger and the context of its ideas. The first two sections are devoted to the ideology of Czech surrealism, with which Effenberger is indelibly linked as a leading theoretician and which determined his direction for several long decades. The Introduction carries basic information about the history of Czech surrealism, the general problems of its theory and creative practice and the personality of the author in question. The following part examines in detail one aspect of the fundamental shift that occurred in Czech surrealism during its post-war developments: the shift from attempts at achieving a general disruption of the spirit (European rationalist thought), bringing about a total "crisis of consciousness," to mapping this crisis as a depressing problem of the contemporary world. This change is related to the different position of Czech surrealists regarding psychoanalysis: In this context, the author of this study refers to the two-member development scheme of Jean Michel Rabaté, according to which it is possible to distinguish between "hysterical" and "paranoid" discourse within surrealism, and proposes that it be supplemented by a third member - "analytical" discourse. The remaining sections of the whole study are focused on...

The thinking of picture
Řebíková, Barbora ; Kouba, Pavel (referee) ; Petříček, Miroslav (advisor)
The text tries to study the classical theory of mimésis, that contains motives which has influenced our understanding of the reality (image) up to today. The attention is paid to the classical determination of mimésis in the Plato's and Aristotle's work. The work attempts to study besides the classical form of the theory also the transformation in modern philosophical environment. At first it studies the change in definition, the determination of minésis as a projection and representation. It points to the variable accent similarities in the studied theory. Then the work analyses the idea positions of Nelson Goodman, who wholly denies the role of similarity for determination of the art theory as a imitation and he builds the realism on totally different base. There are two models of vision described at the conclusion of the work that correspond with the proposed determination of menésis. The work is the base of the reality (image) mind, that could continue with studying of the contemporary art from the theory point of view.

Principle of similarity in relation to photography
Kliment, Jáchym ; Czumalo, Vladimír (advisor) ; Silverio, Robert (referee)
The subject of my thesis is similarity in photography. The first part provides a complex definition of the principle of similarity, with emphasis on philosophy, logics, mathematics, semiotics, iconology and iconography. A connection of similarity with analogy, sylogism, mimesis and association is also pursued. The second part, which represents the core of the paper, selectively explores similarity as a stylistic and semanticising means in contemporary photography. Apart from other aspects, diptych and series in photography are discussed in greater detail.

Possibilities of the music objects operations
Svoboda, Tomáš ; Hons, Miloš (advisor) ; Tichý, Vladimír (referee)
This thesis deals, first of all, with the different ways of dividing music space (Chapters I-III). It can be divided into two dimensions ? sound dimension and time dimension. The structure of each dimension can be further divided. In this way, within each dimension will be created various (sound and time) objects, decided either by the concrete structure, or, if the structure cannot be assigned, by an outline describing the shape of the object. Only by combining objects from both dimensions, will types of music objects be created. Those which have no inner order will be called a group. By permutation of the elements of this group, different, precisely organised shapes will be created. Such objects will be called segments (Chapter IV.). Chapter V. is dedicated to the music objects? operations. All operations are either partial (progressing in the frame of one dimension), or total (simultaneously progressing in both dimensions). Such operations are: transposition, multiplication, inversion, turn, etc. This knowledge is to be used in the universal method of contemporary music analysis. In this way, the type of the music object and its changes caused by the ?operations? can be defined. As result, it will be possible to assess the structure of the composition as a whole. The information can also be used in the opposite way: as a compositional progression, consisting of creating objects and using them in ?operations?.

Firstly, the phenomenon is contextualized in the group of other types of computer-mediated communication realized by the medium of the Internet. Secondly, it is defined by the factors of public accessibility (versus the participants' illusion of privacy) and dialogic, interactive properties. Lastly, it is put in contrast with online chat concerning the presence of a topic, asynchronous and more permanent character. The aim of the thesis is to analyze and describe the way contemporary Czech language is used in this particular environment. Typical features of the internet in general are data connectedness, hypertext linkage and elision of contextual information (which is usually easy to find elsewhere), as well as users' anonymity, which often leads to unscrupulous behaviour and vulgarity. It is also common that...
