EÚ, the effectivitz of its institutional system and her ambition to become one of the world economy's poles
Aksamít, Juraj ; Lipka, David (advisor) ; Chalupníček, Pavel (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to observe the EU's institutional system from the viewpoint of its effectivity and impact on the economic growth and various trasnmission mechanisms. The EU is a group consisting of 27 countries from different cultural backgrounds, with different national mentalitities, economic, social and politic systems. The economical and political integration is not taking place in a spontaneous way, as a process of continuous cognition, analysis and learning from mistakes, but according to a plan comming from upper political levels and with emphasis on the aims more than on the means. In the EU there are at least 2 levels of legislature, executive and jurisdiction, each on the national and supranational level. The nature of these 2 levels is rather parallel than vertical. An important link and therefore effective feedback is missing between the supranational level and the national level represented through the vote of the population and the performance of the economic environment. Constructivistic efforts are encumbering the economy of the EU with balast, that can be understood as a pool of from the system arising ineffectivities. The result of this balast is an inhibition of the economic growth despite declarations to accelerate it. This thesis will observe these ineffectivities through a more detailed analysis of macroeconomic fields as are monetary policy, labour markets and tax systems. The emphasis will be put on concrete impacts of supranational policies on individual countries, areas inside the EU and the EU as a whole. The USA will serve as a benchmark, because the EU has the ambition to get ahead of them as the world largest economy and that by the year 2010. The nature of these ineffectivities is of a rather hidden nature and therefore I will preffer the studying of literature in fields of interest as a mean of identifying the ineffectivities rather than atual quantifications.

The Learned Society of the Czech Republic and its predecessors. From the Royal Czech Society of Sciences to the Learned Society of the Czech Republic
Jedináková, Jiřina ; Míšková, Alena (referee) ; Šouša, Jiří (advisor)
The goal of the work lS to present the founding, the relatively short history, and the organization of the Learned Society of the Czech Republic. Elaborating the creation and development of an important institution connected with science and scholarship, one that participates ln the life of contemporary society, including an understanding of this group' s historical roots, could contribute to the overall view of the formulation and the peripety of scientific potential and institutional fundamentals in the Czech Republic. The Learned Society of the Czech Republic was founded on 10 May 1994 at a ceremonial session in Prague' s Carolinum with the signing of the "Declaration of the Learned Society of the Czech Republic." The first part of my work focuses on the driving forces that led to the founding of the Society. In the "Declaration" the Society aligned itself with the traditions of the Royal Czech Society of the Sciences, and for this reason I present basic information regarding this predecessor to the newly founded Learned Society of the Czech Republic. The Royal Czech Society of the Sciences was founded in the second half of the 18th century.

The Czech Banat - a dying community or a region with prosperous future?
Blümelová, Iva ; Freidingerová, Tereza (referee) ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (advisor)
The Czech Banát is an area in Romania where a populous Czech community lives in six typically Czech villages. It has preserved the Czech language, traditions, customs and the way of living for more than 180 years. After the change of the political regime in 1989 many inhabitants have abandoned these villages for Romanian cities or have returned back to the Czech Republic. This research deals with the history of settlement, the development of the size of the population, ways of a living and education in these villages. Based on research made in schools, the opinions and views of the young generation about their future life were explored. Because of the importance of the aid provided by the Czech Republic to this area, it is dealt with in an independent chapter. In the last section, the future of this community threatened by re-emigration is discussed.

Multifunctional Rural Development
Zapletalová, Jana ; Vaishar, Antonín
Rural area was traditionally connected with agriculture. To compare with urban, rural areas were considered to be backward, retarded, not worthy of an intensive research. But the situation has changed in the last time. Although cities are still centres of development in the globalization process, people in Europe leave them as a result of the processes of suburbanization and counter-urbanization. The share of rural population slowly increases in European countries. In addition, farmers form only a minority in contemporary rural settlements. The countryside is getting to be a multi-functional space. Secondary and tertiary sectors penetrate to the countryside. Tourism and agro-tourism develop in the large scale. Agriculture is getting focused more on the maintenance of landscape than with the production. On the other hand, environmental problems also have an impact on rural landscape. European countryside develops within the globalization process.

Phytoestrogens in the food and their connection to arising of the cancer of breast and of sex organs
Čapková, Petra ; Kudláčková, Zděnka (advisor) ; Hronek, Miloslav (referee)
Estrogens and progestins are female hormones. Thanks to their binding to the estrogen receptor they induce gene expression and thus the response of the organism. They are responsible only not for physiological effects such as bone metabolism, menstrual cycle but they play a role also in the pathogenesis of tumours of the breast and genital organs. The production of endogenous substances, receptors or enzymes which are called tumore markers can be characteristic of tumor growth. Breast and endometrial cancer can be both estrogen dependend and estrogen independent. The increased expression of estrogen or progesterone receptors can be detected in the hormone dependent breast cancer. There are big diferences between the incidence of breast, ovary and endometrial cancer in developed countries (USA, Europe) compared with Japan. This may be because the Japanese population consumes foods with higher content of soybean. Soy is rich in phytoestrogens. They are active plant substances that, among other plants, are found in the red clover, linseed and soybeans. Phytoestrogens can be divided to isoflavones, lignans, coumenstans and stilbens. Their effects are similar to the 17β-estradiol. We can classify them as so-called natural selective estrogen receptor modulators. They have a wide range of effects. They...

Euthanasy from the sight of medical staff in picked-up South-Bohemian hospitals
OPOVÁ, Lenka
The main topic of this thesis was to find out how people view today the issue of euthanasia and what arguments they see for and against its legalization. The theoretical part is focused on the history of suicide and abuse of euthanasia in Nazi Germany, the legislation and attitude of individual states that permit or tolerate the merciful death or assisted suicide and the opinions of some Czech personalities. The empirical part expresses the views of nurses and with the help of a quantitative research, we are trying to find out if they are adequately informed in this field. By using an anonymous questionnaire we learn whether they agree or disagree with the legalization of euthanasia in the Czech Republic and whether their age, department they work in and the frequency of meetings with the dying patient has an effect on their opinion.

Education of the population as a factor of regional development in the Czech Republic
Cimpová, Jana ; Kouřilová, Jana (advisor) ; Tomešová, Jana (referee)
The master thesis concentrates on the problematics of the regional development in connection with the educational structure of the Czech Republic. The main goal of this working paper is to evaluate, whether the level of the education reached has an impact on the regional development. For purpose of the analysis, NUTS 3 regions of the Czech Republic have been used. The regional development has been defined with five economic indicators, namely GDP per capita, average monthly gross salary, long term unemployment, foreign direct investments and employment in the primary sector. Nowadays education on the university degree is gaining importance and that is why university degree of the working population has been set as independent variable. For the proof of the dependence between university degree and dependent economic indicators of regional development, linear regression analysis has been used. In order to analyze the development of the dependence in time, for each economic indicators regression analysis of two years has been compared.
