The subjunctive versus the "should"-construction and the indicative in dependent imperative clauses
Vlčková, Barbora ; Malá, Markéta (advisor) ; Šaldová, Pavlína (referee)
English dependent imperative clauses allow three possible forms of the verb phrase in the predicate: the subjunctive, the should-construction and the indicative. The present study deals with these paradigmatic variants and aims to examine their distribution in British English in a synchronic as well as a diachronic perspective. Drawing on grammars and previous studies, the theoretical part of the thesis provides an overview of the present issue and describes important terms. It is to serve mainly as background for the research part, which follows. The research project consists of two parts: a diachronic and a synchronic one. While the diachronic part focuses on the development of the distribution of the variants in dependent impererative clauses from the second half of the 20th century to the present, the synchronic part attempts to define some factors which may influnce the use of these variants in contemporary English. The study uses various corpora of British English as primary material for the research. Excerpted examples were analyzed and results were produced, on the basis of which conclusions were drawn.

Portable digital photo viewer
Poštulka, Petr ; Galamboš, Leo (referee) ; Kopecký, Michal (advisor)
The bachelor thesis describes the design and implementation of a portable digital photo browser. The importance was put on ease of extendibility and platform independency as the browser is primarily destined to be put together with photos on a CD or DVD. The browser offers display of various EXIF information, it allows the user to save additional information on chosen photos and perform searches on the basis of such additional data. At the same time, it offers a flexible user interface that could be customised to fit each user's preference.

Semantic Navigator
Michelfeit, Jan ; Knap, Tomáš (advisor) ; Svoboda, Martin (referee)
The Semantic Web extends principles of the Web from documents to data. The Web of Data facilitates machines to understand the meaning of information. Semantic web search engines can take advantage of this fact and offer more precise search results and advanced query capabilities. The aim of this thesis is to use semantic data in web documents in order to enhance navigation between related web pages and bring advantages of semantic web search engines to ordinary users. We present Semantic Navigator as a solution to this task. Semantic Navigator is implemented as a Mozilla Firefox extension. The extension uses the Sindice search service for discovery of related documents and provides access to information summaries on Sig.ma.

Suicide as Search of Life
Žák, Stanislav ; Ventura, Václav (advisor) ; Hogenová, Anna (referee) ; Budil, Ivo (referee)
Searching for the primary causes of human suicidal behaviour, if any primary causes even exists, I put the following question: Is voluntary termination of life something abnormal that has its cause in health, psychical or social stress of the individual or does it not have to be so? If the cause of human suicidal behaviour is the result of any disturbance in the organism, why the suicide rate increases the most where health care is at the maximum possible level and where the suicide is, in terms of cultural history, considered to be a symptom of one of the worst health abnormalities or ethic aberrances of human life? Can the causes of human suicidal behaviour also consist in other things than in health, psychological or social breakdown of human organism? In my thesis, I seek the answer to this question. It is generally known that the human is a very complex being which needs not only good health and social conditions but also spiritual conditions for its life and survival. In my opinion, it is a tragedy of scientifically focused approach of the modern era, which at the same time rigorously restricts socially acknowledged boundaries of human knowledge, that it refuses to take into account the research of this fourth dimension of human existence. It was C. G. Jung who came to this opinion; as he says: "Where...

Design of search engine for modern needs
Maršálek, Tomáš ; Palovská, Helena (advisor) ; Strossa, Petr (referee)
In this work I argue that field of text search has focused mostly on long text documents, but there is a growing need for efficient short text search, which has different user expectations. Due to this reduced data set size requirements different algorithmic techniques become more computationally affordable. The focus of this work is on approximate and prefix search and purely text based ranking methods, which are needed due to lower precision of text statistics on short text. A basic prototype search engine has been created using the researched techniques. Its capabilities were demonstrated on example search scenarios and the implementation was compared to two other open source systems representing currently recommended approaches for short text search problem. The results show feasibility of the implemented prototype regarding both user expectations and performance. Several options of future direction of the system are proposed.

Charousová, Hana ; Ovečka, Libor (advisor) ; Ryšková, Mireia (referee)
Masters thesis SOCIAL MISSION OF THE CHURCH AND PROGRAMMING DOCUMENTS OF THE EUROPEAN UNION Hana Charousová Resumé The contemporary world is being led towards total globalization, material development, economic prosperity and technocratic society. The aim of this Masters thesis is to point out that the contemporary world challenges people to maintain human values, support moral and spiritual life and humankind generally. My work focuses on the situation of the Catholic Church and other churches in our society, most of all on their social mission, which comes out of Christian teaching. I want to demonstrate that these churches can and should have a position of value in contemporary, modern, pluralistic society. At the same time, through this thesis, I would like to inspire churches to be more involved in practical aspects of society, especially in social problem-solving. To do this, however, churches need financial backing. For that reason, this thesis will provide practical suggestions for obtaining financial support, for example from European Structural Funds, especially the European Social Fund. This Masters thesis contains 159 256 characters

Body
Štys, Filip ; Petříček, Miroslav (advisor) ; Čapek, Jakub (referee)
In the first part of this paper I followed Michel Foucault's genealogy of modern power. That is a new, productive type of power acting upon the body and through the body. Modern bodies and subjects, in itself, are coming into being by the effects of this power. The production of modern subject eventuates through the effects of knowledge-power complex. Judith Butler added to Foucault's analysis the temporal and reiterative dimension of this production and a new conception of matter allowing a different understanding of materiality of the body. In the second part I'm searching for the possible subversions, co called escape lines from domain of the modern power, which are based on bodily practices. I'm following here the work of Deleuze and Guattari. In the end I introduced the butoh-dance as one possible escape line.
