Green communication: case study of the outdoor clothing company Patagonia Inc.

Storytelling and Reconciliation: Shifts in Frames and Discursive Narratives in Listeners of the Initiative "My Story" in Bosnia and Herzegovina Hana Oberpfalzerová Abstract In Bosnia and Herzegovina, two non-governmental organizations have been running the initiative "My Story" within which three war victims, one Bosniak, one Serb and one Croat, tell their wartime stories and their way to reconciliation in public testimonies in a side-by-side, live setting to an audience of young people or ordinary citizens. The aim of the initiative is to promote reconciliation in the listeners. This doctoral dissertation integrates several disparate fields in order to create an analytical framework for inferring attitude shifts from the discursive narratives recalled by the listeners, and from the frames that connect the single narratives to broader societal discourses within these discursive narratives. Three public testimonies were analyzed and interviews with eighteen listeners from the three Bosnian nations were conducted, some of which were interviewed by phone about four months later to check for further attitude changes. The interview material was analyzed inductively by the means of thematic discourse analysis in order to identify the underlying discursive narratives that were then regrouped into dimensions or...

Waldaufová, Petra ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Ronková, Jolana (referee)
This thesis focuses on work with reading cubes and with game named Story Cubes. It deals with possibilities how to use it to support reading literacy, understanding of text and speech development of pre-school children. The theoretical part first introduces characteristics of preschool children and describes reading literacy development in preschool age. Then it deals with principles of work with reading cubes and Story Cubes and with possibilities to use it in kindergarten. The thesis also includes a practical part which suggests other usage options for reading cubes. There are created specific lessons with reading cubes for preschool children, which follow the rules and recommendations mentioned in the theoretical part. These lessons were repeatedly implemented at kindergarten to be able to observe reading literacy development of each child in time. The hypothesis that preschool children can use selected reading strategies while working with reading cubes, and at the same time, these readership activities support the interest of children in books and related activities, proved to be correct. These children also expanded their vocabulary and improved expressing abilities through Story Cubes activities. When Colour Narrates: Colour as a Narrative Tool in Audiovisual Storytelling
Larsen, Morten ; JÍCHA, Marek (advisor) ; KLARICOVÁ, Kateřina (referee)
This thesis explores the use of colour as a narrative tool within the realm of cinema. Even though colours have taken up a considerable role in the history of film, colour theory and colour aesthetic have not received reasonable attention in film studies compared to other fields. The thesis reflects upon why this might be the case based on the hypothesis by David Bachelor that a history long “chromophobia” has existed in the arts in the Western world. The paper then seeks to give an overview of relevant theory of colour that tries to shed light on the multiplex nature of colour itself, and in continuation to that, its ability to convey meaning within audio-visual story-telling. Finally, this paper shall investigate the selected works by three directors - Eric Rohmer, Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Alfred Hitchcock - that utilize colour narratively within their work but in various ways. It is the aim of this thesis that the analysis supported by theory shall prove the quality and unique property of colour in audio-visual storytelling.
Staging a non-dramatic text
Svozil, Adam ; KORČÁK, Jakub (advisor) ; HRBEK, Daniel (referee)
This thesis deals with the topic of narrative (or ´diegetic´) theatre plays. It aims to map out the processes which emerge after the mimetic mode of representation is partly or wholly replaced with the diegetic one., i.e. the decline in their ´dramatic´ quality and the structural changes which are being conceptualized mainly within a narrative framework. The thesis consequently looks at specific historic moments which propelled strong contemporary presence of diegesis on theatre stage; namely the theatre of Bertolt Brecht, the performative turn and postdramatic theatre and the storytelling movement. With these circumstances in mind, the author reflects on his practical theatrical work: The Ritual Slaughter of Gorge Mastromas (DISK Theatre, Prague) and Illusions (DJKT Theatre, Pilsen.)
Stories as a source of knowledge for decision-making
Kejzlarová, Nina ; Mládková, Ludmila (advisor) ; Dědina, Jiří (referee)
The aim of this Master thesis has been to summarize the current theoretical knowledge about the possibilities of using stories in management, especially their use as a tool for better and easier decision-making in a nowadays turbulent period, and to summarize the aspects explaining their positive contribution in this issue. In the practical part, the thesis focuses on exploring the use of stories by students of the University of Economics in Prague to decide on subjects and teachers. More specifically, the aim has been to find out how students are influenced by stories told by their colleagues in selection of subjects and teachers, how actively students use stories for obtaining and transmitting knowledge and information, in what form stories spread among students, which communication channel students prefer and why, what the quality of stories is and what the differences between Bachelor's and Master's students in those aspects are. The purpose of this research has been to demonstrate the power of stories in influencing individuals decision-making, applicable also to classical management in the corporate environment. As a research method, a combination of a quantitative and simple qualitative analysis in the form of the semi-structured questionnaire has been used. Based on the research, it has been found out that students do decide about subjects and teachers on the basis of others'stories, they do actively seek those stories and they do prefer personal narrative from friends, as this form has turned out to be considered as the most reliable for students, and also the one which will find the most consistent validation in what they will experience next. Students of Bachelor's and Master's studies differ in the selected communication channel and the activity with which they search for and use the stories.
