Visualization and Representation of Social and Cultural Environment of Brazilian Slums - Favelas

This thesis focuses on theoretical and empirical analysis of Brazilian favelas. In the first part the origin and development of favelas is outlined, including the contemporary public policy towards them. The main part of this thesis represents an empirical research focusing on visualization of culture by the children living in favelas. The data collection was based on the methodology of visual anthropology and the analysis of the drawings on social semiotic theory. Drawings made by the children from favelas in São Paulo with culture as their subject matter were collected during the fieldwork. On the basis of the kind of represented motif the drawings were classified into several categories which the author works with afterwards. Most of them depict motifs related to Brazilian culture and only few of them are directly linked to favela's culture. Based on these results, it is considered cultural elements perceived strongly by the children and components which in spite of their close connection to Brazil were omitted. Abstract The submitted dissertation is focused on the observation of difficulties in the drawing development of preschool children. Drawing is a typical means of expression of a child, it is often considered as a spontaneous and natural activity. Nevertheless in the population of preschool children we may find some kids who do not draw at all, or they start to draw at a much later stage than it is common amongst the ordinary population, or they may also react negatively to drawing. Within this work a phenomenon in which the child's drawing distinctively does not correspond to his cognitive abilities due to the risk of a specific disability of drawing adoption (dyspinxia) or due to another crisis of imaging in the preschool age. The focus of the research lies in the processing of quantitative methods (intellectual abilities test, drawing tests), however additional information is also derived from the qualitative methods (anamnesis, interview, observation, essay). Development of children's drawing and fields of application

The bachelor's thesis seeks to examine children's drawing development and fields of application. The first chapter describes children's drawing development from two perspectives: the changing attitudes towards the child as an artist and a time-line of research into children's drawing. Second part of the thesis contains fields of application of children's drawing in therapeutical approaches to art therapy. Finally, practical part offers a research proposal, which aims to survey therapeutical approaches to art therapy in the Czech Republic.
The role of the book in evolution of the children's imagination

The master thesis deals with the importance of the book in evolution of the children's imagination. The first part includes short introduction to problems of children's imagination. The second part is engaged in ontogeny of child from prenatal period to the middle childhood and in progress of key competences. It analyzes selected psychological approaches, which had the imagination as a subject of the research. The thesis explains and defines basic terms and processes of the imagination. It deals with a specific phenomenon of the children's imagination and with the evolution of the imagination. The third part introduces typical children's literature, directs on the traditional fairytale and it specifies problems of the literary characters too. It describes the historical development of the Czech book illustration, importance of the illustration in books for children and it also describes children's drawings. The fourth part applies all of previous pieces of knowledges into the work experience in kindergarten. It also describes relations between child and school or child and book. Family and its Importance in a Child's Life

This thesis deals with family education and the importance of family for the child of preschool age. The theoretical part provides expert knowledge of the child of preschool age, family upbringing. Furthermore it describes concepts of family, its functions and finally family in child's drawing. The empirical part is focused on the research study of families and its significance for the child. It emphasizes the time parents spent with children, the family environment and the overall family situation. The research is conducted using interviews with children, mothers and teachers. To underline the entire research I also analyzed children's drawings.
Younger school age children's drawings (children's drawings from common elementary school and art school in comparison)

Diploma thesis is focused on younger school age children´s drawings. Theoretic part gives information about the stages of younger school age, describes the art development of children and it deals in more detail with the concept of creativity. The thesis gives a characteristic of art taught at a primary school and fine art at an art school in its last part. Practical part of this diploma thesis analyzes a set of 64 drawings of children aged 8-9 years. Its aim is to compare the drawing expression and to find differences in drawings on the given, theme between two groups of children, children from a common elementary school and children from an art school who visit fine arts lessons.

This thesis focuses on drawing expression levels compared two groups of children younger school age, with the first group is an elementary school education at the school and the other practical. The theoretical part provides general information on the development of younger school age. It focuses on the development of drawing display in connection with the development of intellectual assumptions. The practical section provides the results of research of children's drawings which are assessed in relation to the developmental level of children.
Perception of older adolescents

This thesis tries to show a view of current adolescents on older people. It focuses especially on attitudes and opinions which create an image of a senior in nowaday's society. The theoretical part which is divided into four chapters includes basic terms: these are widening general knowledge about discussed problematics. The most important terms appear in the first part - adolescence, old age and perception. They describe physical and psychical aspects and tendencies that are typical of both stages (relationship of an individual to himself or herself, adaptation to ageing, satisfaction in life and vitality in elderly). Attention is drawn to socialization process which allows larger integration of adolescents into social life. This area is strongly connected to the area of social relationships including both adolescents and seniors. Such relationships can be seen especially in families, among relatives, friends or peers and their intensity changes over time. Very important and highly debated topic is also discrimination of older people. This topic forms the final part of this thesis. The last chapter deals with meanings of children's drawing and follows units which form this meaning (colours, size of figure, quality of lines). This part also includes a research of perception of seniors which was made in the USA. The practical part shows seniors graphically pictured by students of the eighth classes. These pictures are completed by information obtained from questionaries. The conclusion compares results of both researches.
