Brno, Moravian Library, Mk 56 and Mk 91 and their Partial Edition Mgr. Jan Odstrčilík Annotation This study examines two unedited Latin versions of Jan Hus's Czech Sunday Postil, which are preserved in mss. Mk 91 and Mk 56 in the Moravian library in Brno, Czech Republic. The primary analysis is of ms. Mk 91, which provides a faithful, or even word-for-word, translation of the Czech original, edited by Jiří Daňhelka, but still contains a number of Czech words. This multilingual characteristic is studied in the context of macaronic sermon literature. Methodological problems and approaches in this field are discussed (authorship, types of bilingualism, performance of bilingual sermons), alongside three Latin-Czech macaronic sermon collections: the Quadragesimale admontskému, Hus's Sermons from the Bethlehem chapel, and the postills of Michal Polák also called the Sermones de sanctis latino-bohemici. The work offers a comprehensive preview of opinion streams on the theme of eschatology, final things or also the end of time , in various stages of the development of human society, whether Jewish or Christian, with an emphasis on the medieval period in the Lands of the Bohemian Crown. Iťs based on the biblical texts of the Old and New Testaments, particularly on the New T estament text of the Book of Revelations. It deals with religious situation in the Middle Ages and simultaneously also with political, cultural and social factors. It reveals certain sources of heretical teachings, especially the Vaudois Church, from which eminent theologists' opinions crystallized and mentions the status of heretics in medieval society. It also covers the teachings of John Wycliffe. The work is divided into six parts, in which eschatological moods and vision that reigned i n contemporary societies are substantiated. It analyses them, and literary woeks document the main ideas and opinions of eminent reformátory scholars, such as for example Milíč of Kroměříž, Matěj of Janov, Master Jan Hus and Petr Chelčický. Jan Hus and his types of film characters in the works of O. Vávra and J. Svoboda

Diploma thesis analyzes a movie character of John Hus in Otakar Vávra's film from 1954 and Jiří Svoboda's film from 2015. The aim of the thesis is to discover how the view on this historical person (perceived through the prism of an era and regime in which he was portrayed on the big screen) changed. The introduction of the diploma thesis is focused on John Hus in historical context. The interpretative part examines ideological aspects, stereotypes and their mutual interaction. The thesis used the method of qualitative analysis of selected aspects of both films. In response to comparative analysis of selected aspects of both films the diploma thesis analysis John Hus like a movie character. The outcome of the diploma thesis is review whether the historical period influenced by John Hus was portrayed in accordance with the spirit of objectivity and available historical sources.
The Doctrine of Antichrist and the Coming of Christ at the Beginning of the Unity of Brethren and its Roots in the Czech Reformation

This thesis provides a balanced overview of the active ideological currents in the late Middle Ages in the Czech lands concerning the doctrine of the Antichrist and the second coming of Christ. It not only deals with the religious situation during that period, but also emphasises the political, cultural and social circumstances. The text is divided into seven parts that discuss the apocalyptic sentiment and the eschatological visions prevalent in society in that period. Presented in it are the principal ideas of such prominent reformist scholars and thinkers as Jan Milíč of Kroměříž, Master Jan Hus, Jan Rokycan and Petr Chelčický. The text charts the teachings of these men, as they followed one another, concerning the issues of the concept of the Antichrist and the coming of Christ up to the period of the Hussite revolutionary movement and even later, during the early days of the Unity of Brethren. Special attention is also given to the spiritual circumstances involved in the founding of the Unity of Brethren; there the roots of its founding and its beginnings and its distinctive features are documented in the thesis. The Image of Jan Hus in the Early Modern Czech Literature

The work The Image of Jan Hus in the Early Modern Czech Literature tries to map different ways of description of this Czech preacher in selected literary texts from 15th to 18th century, to capture the changes which his image underwent. The chosen authors come from different countries and use different languages, represent different environments, social classes and opinion groups, they also have different education and religion. Individual literary works were assessedby means of comparing the key episodes that are either repeated in the texts, or the author intentionally did not use them. To understand the image of Jan Hus as a whole, also contemporary iconography was taken into account , which in some cases has been taken from other literary texts than those which were compared, so that the image of Hus whereas complete as possible. The comparison of the texts and iconography showed, how accurate the observation of the described scheme was and how the image of Jan Hus was gradually changing. The combination of written and iconographic material from specific time intervals allowed us to observe the gradual change of conceptions of the personality of Jan Hus and events connected with him, because the authors represent the opinion of their ethnic group and time. Interpretation of Freedom in the Work of Jan Hus and his Sources at St. Augustinus

The paper focus on Jan Hus and T.G.Masaryk and their contribution to the Czech philosophy. The emphasis is given mainly to the parts of their lives and work which include timeless moral message. The aim of the paper is not to offer detailed analysis of the philosophical texts but rather to track fundamental moral accents they include and their impact on Czech philosophical landscape. Brief overview Hus' and Masaryk's important life events and decisions is used to describe a practical dimension of their philosophy. The reflection of the Hus' and Masaryk's works follows approach and intepretation of Erazim Kohák's books. With their help the paper tries to indentify meaning of Czechness as it was defined and shaped by Masaryk and Hus.
Portraits of reformators of 16th and 17th century

In the first part of my thesis Portriats of the Reformators 16th and 17th century, I would like to focus on the historical view on the new reformation movement which had a big influence on history of whole Europe. On this historical part I would like to write the preface of this work. In the second, main part of the thesis I want to introduce the art process during the 16th and 17th century, specifically portriats and group portraits of the reformators in that time. According to this topic I want to mention the artists who worked for the reformators, as Lucas Cranach elder/younger, Albrecht Dürer and others, who made a contribution with the growth of this historical period. In the last part I will evaluate the research and iconography of portraits of John Huss, Martin Luther and another important man of the reformation. Finally the thesis is concluded by clarifying the catholic and protestant group portrait called "Le Chandelier" and its differences between these two similar graphics. The content of my thesis are articles and expert opinions of many research workers who are concerned into the relation between visul art and reformation.
