Břečková, Anna ; Mladěnka, Přemysl (advisor) ; Hašková, Pavlína (referee)
Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology Student: Anna Břečková Supervisor: Přemysl Mladěnka, Ph.D. Title of Thesis: Iron-chelating properties of selected novel chelators from 4-acyl-5-pyrazolone group II Iron deficiency and iron overload play important roles in the pathophysiology of certain human diseases. Administration of iron chelators is a suitable therapy in iron overload conditions, especially in cases of hematological diseases treated with blood transfusions. Iron- chelating therapy appears as well as a promising tool for other diseases (acute myocardial infarction, tumor, etc.). Several factors should be considered according to expected indications: 1) oral efficiency, 2) activity in acidic environment, 3) ability to reduce ferric ions to ferrous ions (risk of pro-oxidation). The aim of this thesis was to verify the iron-chelating properties of selected novel chelators from 4-acyl-5-pyrazolone group by use of UV-VIS spectrophotometric methods. From this group, p-terc.butyl- and p-nitroderivatives of the basic structure and the derivatives marked as H2Q3Q and H2QPy, which are double molecules of the basic structure, were chosen. All of the tested substances had some potential to chelate ferrous ions and were also devoid of...

This thesis deals with the theme of the homosexuality in the modem Arabic prose, that is to say with the books written in the Arabic cultural environment since the beginning of the twentieth century. The aim of this thesis was to provide a so1id view of the way the homosexuality is presented in the Arabic literature, because the interpretation of different sexual orientation is in the world Arabic studies, let alone in the Czech Arabic studies, really rare. Sekerová, Lenka ; Navrátilová, Lucie (referee) ; Jílek, Petr (advisor)
Therapeutic applications of monoclonal antibodies (in oncologic indications) Background Monoclonal antibodies (Mab) are one of the possible means of treating oncological diseases. This thesis aims to summarize basic information about them and provide an overview of all antitumour monoclonal antibodies registered in the Czech Republic, whose stage III studies had been concluded before December 31, 2008. Main findings An overview of concluded stage three studies of all registered indications for seven tumour antibodies have been created including alemtuzumab, bevacizumab, cetuximab, ibritumomab tiuxetan, panitumumab, rituximab and trastuzumab. Considering the brief use of Mab in the medical practice, many of the studies have not been finished or their results are still to be published. Judging from the overview, the scope of indication of some monoclonal antibodies rises depending on the duration of their use. At the beginnings of therapeutic use, mainly for ethical reasons, monoclonal antibodies were applied to patients with later stages of the disease. The increasing amount of information on effectiveness and safety of the treatment as part of the research has enabled the use of biological treatment in earlier stages of tumour diseases and also in the adjuvant therapy. In comparison with the...

Concept of "nature" in Montesquieu's Spirit of the Laws
Fořtová, Hana ; Kučera, Rudolf (advisor) ; Čapek, Jakub (referee) ; Pechar, Jiří (referee)
The aim of the dissertation is to clarify concept of nature in the major work of Montesquieu, The Spirit ofthe Laws. In fact we cannotfully comprehend political theory of the author without a proper understanding of his conception of human nature. The majority of interpreters treating this question regard Montesquieu as a follower of the modern school of natural law, mainly Grotius and Pufendorf, and they focus their attention on concepts of "natural right" and "natural law". Nevertheless, Montesquieu employs these terms rarely and he prefers to speak simply of "nature"; moreover, he does not offer a systematic analysis of the concept of natural right, neither any elaborate theory of human nature. The general notion of "nature" enables usto explore the scientific meaning of this term covering theory of climate, as one of the central points of author's politicaltheory. The first part of dissertation analyses the scientific meaning of the concept of nature. Through his activities at Bordeaux Academy Montesquieu was not only a spectator of the scientific revolution but he played the role of an active participant in this field. We focused on the author's attitude to the new idea of nature, mainly with regard to his attempt to understand human body. Montesquieu shares the Cartesian mechanistic conception of...

Role of Middle Management in Innovation Process
Novák, Adam ; Nový, Ivan (advisor) ; Pauknerová, Daniela (referee) ; Vraný, Jan (referee)
Middle managers operate in an environment close to activities of their firm and in interaction with this environment identify opportunities, challenges, and subsequently generate innovation alternatives. While doing so they - among other - utilize also weak ties within their social network, which permeate internal and external environment of the firm and enable entry of new and divergent information in the innovation process. Middle managers communicate selected information to senior management levels, and the communication exchange between the middle and top management facilitates compliance with the firms innovation strategy, ensures resources as well as high level support for the implementation of innovation; middle managements information inputs at the same time influence senior management in defining the firms innovation strategy. In contact with ordinary employees (and lower levels of management), middle management compensates for differences between strategy and current activities of the firm, promotes innovation and overcomes resistance. To ensure support for innovation within the organization, middle managers draw, inter alia, on their internal networks of strong ties, including their informal components. Middle management acts as a communication bridge, which helps to balance the tensions originating from the differences between environments of the senior management and employees. From this perspective, the communication interfaces between the different levels of management, or the companys hierarchy, seem to play a critical role; my research at the same time indicates there are significant differences in perception between middle and senior management of intracompany processes enabling innovation.
