The Significance of Palacký's Philosophical Renewal of theIdea of Czech Statehood
Bednář, Miloslav
The Idea of Czech statehood created on its Hussite stage an elementary and rudimentary form of humanitist Idea. This Idea, however, prevailed later in its considerably deficient Franco-German version of continental European liberalism on the European scale after 1848. Palacký as the leading Czech historian, philosopher and politician of the 19th century strained after an Austrian takeover of the key principle which represents the Idea of Czech statehood. This principle consists in morally anchored recognition of plurality as an alternative option to the impass of materialist and power-uniform liberalism.

Terrorist attack at the Olympic games in Munich 1972
Brunner, Jan ; Nálevka, Vladimír (advisor) ; Kovář, Martin (referee)
My thesis shows how difficult is to describe and defme terrorism, which proved to be the biggest political problem for the democratic countries at the beginning of 21 st century. In order to understand this phenomenon it is essential to show its long and violent history as I did in the frrst part ofthis text. The core of my work focuses on the rapid growth of intemational terrorism in the late 1960's and early 70's with emphasis on the events that took place at the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972. On 5th September 1972 group of eight Palestinian terrorists entered the olympic vilIage and seizured 11 Israeli athletes and coaches. The terrorists demanded the re1ease and safe passage to Egypt of 234 Palestinians and non-Arabs jailed in Israe1, along with two German prisoners, Andreas Baader and Ulrike Meinhof, who were members of the Red Army Faction. However, two athletes were kilIed outright, and by the time the tragedy was resolved aH the Israelis and a German policeman were de ad, five members of Black September had been kilIed and three others captured. This tragedy can be in my opinion regarded as the birth of modem intemationa1 terrorism. An estimated 900 mi11ion persons in at least a hundred different countries saw the crisis unfold on the te1evision screens. The Olympic tragedy provided the first...

At the end of 2010 the number of registered type 2 diabetics in the Czech Republic was 739 859. The percentage of obese adult population in the Czech Republic is approximately 35 %. This means that the Czech Republic holds a leading position in obesity occurrence. Treatment of obesity and diabetes mellitus type 2 are based on the same principles. Meanwhile, weight reduction improves compensation of diabetes. The care of obese diabetics is highly specific and therefore requires a closer attention. It is important to emphasize which of the specific features of the care are the most significant. Specific features in the care of obese patient with diabetes mellitus type 2 include particularly education about dietary measures, physical activity and complicating conditions about which type 2 obese diabetics should be informed. The following two objectives were established based on the above-mentioned facts. The first objective was to map specific features of nursing care of obese patients with diabetes mellitus type 2. The second objective was to map the knowledge of obese diabetics about the regimen measures associated with their disease. Both the objectives have been met. The research efforts were divided into two parts. A qualitative survey was used to meet the first objective through a structured interview method. The interviews were conducted with seven nurses from the South Bohemian region involved in the care of those patients. The interview investigated specific features of the care of obese type 2 diabetics. A quantitative questionnaire survey was used to meet the second objective. The questionnaire was intended for obese type 2 diabetics. The number of distributed questionnaires for the research survey was 100. The purpose of the questionnaire was to verify knowledge of and adherence to regimen measures among the patients. The surveyed patients were selected in surgeries of specialist physicians, two hospitals and a senior citizen home in the South Bohemian region. The results have shown that patients are familiar with regimen measures associated with their disease and that they adhere to them. Further, the results have shown that specific features in the nursing care of obese patients suffering from diabetes mellitus type 2 include particularly education of nurses about dietary measures, education about physical activity and education about acute conditions connected with acute complications of diabetes and about anti-stress techniques or psychotherapy. The thesis will serve as a document monitoring specific features of the care of obese patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 and will help not only to students interested in the topic but also to all other interested individuals. Another output of the thesis is an information leaflet intended for type 2 obese diabetics.

Báčová, Tereza ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Mynaříková, Romana (referee)
The conflicted question of German political capital has been discussed on numerous times. Its most dramatic time came when it got bound by the ideological and territorial turmoils during the Cold War era of the 20th century. Nevertheless, it was the end of iron-separated country and its reunification in 1990 which reignited the topic and forced Germany to make this essential decision about its metropolis and soon to be the seat of the government for good. Presented thesis "Die deutsche Hauptstadtfrage Bonn versus Berlin; Der Beschluss über den Regierungs- und Parlamentssitz des vereinten Deutschlands" deals with this German inner political debate about the political capital in its so far the last stage, where two candidates Bonn and Berlin had a run for it. The perspective of gradual evolution of the debate from its beginning in year 1989 is used to clarify the final decision and a vote to make Berlin the capital city as well as the seat of the united government and the parliament. Thesis concludes, that there was a number of crucial factors which played their part even prior to the vote for Berlin (Unification Agreement, political power of some prominent politicians, compromise bill of the Berlin Party etc.) as well as it was the very strong rhetorical, argumentative and emotional power shown by Berlin's...

Foreign exchange interventions and interest rate policy in the Czech republic: Hand in glove?
Égert, Balázs ; Komárek, Luboš
This paper studies the impact of daily official foreign exchange interventions on the Czech koruna’s exchange rate vis-à-vis the euro (the German mark prior to 1999) from 1997 to 2002. Both the event study methodology, extended with official interest rate moves, and a variety of GARCH models reveal that central bank interventions, especially koruna purchases, seem to have been relatively ineffective from 1997 to mid-1998 compared to the size of the interventions.
