The impact of physical activity on the quality of life of persons serving a term of imprisonment

Title: The impact of physical activity on the quality of life of persons serving a term of imprisonment Aims: The main aim of this thesis is to detect, if the health-oriented fitness and the level of quality of life of persons serving a term of imprisonment increases after ten weeks of a regular exercise. Another aim is to find out, if the results of the observed aspects of persons who did take part in the exercise programme will be much different from those who did not. Methods: This is an empiric-theoretical research thesis. Four ensembles took part in this quantitative research. The ensembles I. (N=5) and II. (N=7) filled out a self- designed questionnaire about quality of life and were tested for health-oriented fitness with the Fitnessgram test battery. The partial motor tests evaluate endurance, muscle strength and flexibility. This measurement was hold before and after a ten weeks long organized exercise program. The ensembles III. (N=15) and IV. (N=15) only filled out the questionnaire of quality of life twice, in the same period as the ensembles I. and II. Prison with general security regime - high security department

The thesis aims to describe and analyze the process of professional treatment with emphasis on reducing criminogenic risks with convicted men placed into guarded prisons in section with a high level of security. Convicted criminals show diverse degrees of riskiness and different structures of criminogenic factors. In order for the Prison Service of Czech Republic to work with them effectively, it needs to know their criminological profile. For this stated purpose, it analyzes relevant anamnestic and special pedagogical data. The content of the treatment program is then determined based on their evaluation, which takes into account the variation of pedagogical, socio-legal and psychological approaches and methods, in regards to particular identified high-risk criminogenic factors and needs. The own research of the study, which forms the core of the practical/empiric part of the thesis, consists of the analysis of the self-reported assessed risk factors and subjectively percieved reactivity (alternatively analogous therapeutic responsiveness) and appropriate penitentiary-pedagogical interconnection of available treatment program activities. Halfway houses for people released from prison

The diploma thesis deals with the topic of a halfway house for persons released from prison. It is a specific target group of clients of this social residential service. The diploma thesis contains a theoretical and practical part. The first part describes the meaning of a halfway house, its the target group of clients, the role of social curator, the execution of imprisonment and the role of probation and mediation service. The aim of the thesis is to find out whether young offenders after release are interested in this social service. The practical part of the diploma thesis includes a structured interview with clients halfway houses in the Pilsen, Karlovy Vary and Central Bohemia regions. The interview consisted of 25 questions; the answers are sorted and presented in tables. From the results it can be concluded that young offenders are informed about this social residential service, but after release from prison they prefer another accommodation option. Their last choice is a to becoming a client of a halfway house, one of the reasons why can be the feeling of continued control over their lives such as in prison.

Resocialization of individuals in prison by education and employment

Resocialization of individuals based on the execution of a sentence is a very demanding process, which is not always successful. It is influenced by number of factors, such as personality, physical and mental condition, or family background. We, as social workers, must make a huge effort to strive for successful resocialization. We cannot influence the above-mentioned factors, but we should make great efforts to motivate the client, and employment with education can help us to do so. Firstly, prison was mentioned in the history, then individual terms were introduced, the Prison Service of the Czech Republic was described, the consequences of staying in prison was mentioned, the issue of resocialization of offenders from excluded localities was summarised and drug-free zones in prisons and treatment programs were described. The chapter on employment summarized this issue, current figures, specific examples and future plans of the Prison Service. The chapter on education introduced formal and non-formal education, educational opportunities for convicts, educational activities of non-governmental non-profit organizations and the educational function of clergy. The exercise of parental responsibility by persons serving prison sentence

The Diploma Thesis called The exercise of parental responsibility by persons serving prison sentence deals with the institute of parental responsibility, which means fulfilling and execution of rights and duties of parents serving prison sentence towards their underage children. Legal framework of this institute pursuant to current legislation in the Civil Code is described in detail in the theoretic part, the next part deals with the execution of sentence prison sentence as a specific life circumstance in which a human being is caught in as a parent. The research survey carried out in selected Czech penitentiaries for execution of prison sentence of men and women. The thesis analyses the current legislation of rights and duties of parents serving prison sentence and maps their carrying out in practice. Using the quantitative methodology, the results of the research survey show that rights and duties of parents acknowledged by legislation and in practice of the Constitutional court of the Czech Republic are substantially restricted during the execution of prison sentence. Role of the Labor Office in the reintegration of ex-offenders upon their release from imprisonment

The bachelor thesis maps the offer of services of the labor office in mediation of employment for persons after release from imprisonment. The outcome of the thesis is a recommendation to change the procedure of the Labor Office of the Czech Republic in mediation of employment after release from prison, so that these hardly employable persons are successfully placed on the labor market. These are only such changes in the process of employment mediation that are within the competence of the Labor Office Czech Rebuplic. The bachelor thesis consists of two parts, a part of theoretical basis and a part of the research. Theoretical basis focus on the execution of imprisonment, ie. penitentiary education and treatment program in prison and in the second half describe the services of the labor office. The research was carried out by quantitative research through a questionnaire survey among job applicants who were included in the register of job applicants after their release from prison. The quantitative survey maps the range of services offered by the labor office in recruitment for persons released from prison. Support options for families with a person sentenced to imprisonment in Prague

The bachelor thesis deals primarily with the possibilities of support that can be used by families in the capital city of Prague who have a close person imprisoned. It outlines the conditions of custody and im- prisonment in the Czech Republic and introduces negative effects which families who have a close person imprisoned may face. Subse- quently, the bachelor thesis deals with the possibilities of supporting these families in the Czech environment in terms of social policy and social services, psychotherapy and self-help groups. The practical part maps the provided social services in the capital city of Prague, focusing on the usability of families with a sentenced person in prison and the possibilities of the Association of Civic Counseling Centers. Furthermore, the thesis introduces selected non-governmental organizations with a target group of clients' families with a sentenced person in prison and informs about the contributory organization of the capital city of Prague, Center of Social Services Prague and its de- tached workplace Re-socialization and Reintegration Programs.

Substance use and risk behavior among drug users in prison settings

Introduction: Users of addictive substances are often in conflict with the law and they are considerable part of prison population. In prisons come to using an addictive substances and risky behavior which represent risk to public health, prisoners and employee of prisons. Aims: The aim of the study was to chart and describe formula of risky behavior and using of addictive substances in imprisonment. Methods and sample: Theoretic part contains basic solution of practical part. Using qualitative research, when was as a tool used semi-structured interiview, was data obtained. The research sample, selected by targeted selection, consists of 33 respondents who are clients of addictology services and they have been released in past 12 months from prison. Results: More than half of respondents reported using of addictive substance during imprisonment. The most common were methamphetamine, THC, alcohol and benzodiazepines. Injection method of application addictive substances was reported by 18 percent respondents and 9 percent of respondents were using aplication aids. Analysis of the experience of imprisonment in the context of drug career

Background: A chain of repetitive phenomena is seen in the lives of drug users in the forms of drug use - committing crimes - commencing imprisonment - learning new practices - dismissing from prison - using addictive substances - committing further crimes - then resuming imprisonment. The main goal is to describe the experience of serving a sentence drug-related prisoners. The method of data collection and analysis is grounded theory and qualitative analysis of interviews (biographical interviews). The results of the research were compared with the analysis of specialized literature on the topic. Results and discussion: The work is divided into 3 periods of time - life before imprisonment, whose events determined drug use and criminality, imprisonment as an environment of phenomenon of imprisonment and life after imprisonment as a period of returning to society. Conclusions: During the course of life, Contacts got into very risky situations that they were unable to solve in a constructive way. Drug use and crime were/ are the solution to these difficult life events. Increased strictness of rules in prisons does not guarantee a reduction in the threat of recidivism. The problem of resocialization after the imprisonment

In addition to protecting society, imprisonment has another purpose in the form of reeducating a convicted people to a proper life in freedom and preparing to resocializing them. This bachelor thesis focuses on issues related to imprisonment, specifically on the impact on the life of the convicts. Above all, it deals with the problems that convicts have to face after their release in the resocialization process. The sentence has further consequences for the convicted. Family and social ties are disturbed, the individuals are stigmatized especially when searching for a job, they often find themselves in debt and have to face many repercussions. The thesis introduces the reader to the various aspects of imprisonment, from the rights and duties of the convicts, through their education and employment, to the exit department. The key part is to analyze the problem of the complicated return of convicts to everyday life. Their resocialization is a complicated process with many obstacles such as unemployment, indebtedness and lack of background.
