Balogová, Patrícia
The subject of the present thesis is the development of a company in the construction industry, PORR a. s. during the COVID-19 pandemic. The main objective is to distinguish the crisis and innovation measures introduced in the company during the COVID-19 pandemic. Part of the thesis is to examine the digital technologies intro-duced in PORR a. s. as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic situation. The first part of the thesis focuses on the development of the Czech Republic and the construction industry in the period before and during the pandemic. Based on the available literature, we define the measures implemented by the state and construction companies during the pandemic period in order to minimize the risk and ensure the continuity of projects. We also zoom in on the crisis management needs and opportunities that the COVID-19 pandemic brought to construction companies at this time. In the second part, PORR Inc. together with the identification of the measures put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the analysis of the financial indicators provided by the company and supplemented by openended interviews with the company's management, chief economist and the company's employees in each department, in relation to the measures introduced during the pandemic, the impact of the various anti-pandemic measures introduced on the company's performance has been identified. The construction industry has gradually embraced digital technologies over the last two decades as the 'technology push' continues to overcome the usual passivity typical of the industry. PORR a. s. has applied several digital pro-measures during the pandemic period, such as digital signature, SAPP economic system, implementation of stbuildings in the online space, use of BIM and 3D technology on construction sites. The company's main objective during the pandemic was to minimize the impact on the business during the pandemic, such as increased material costs, extended construction completion dates and efforts to make work easier for employees. By reacting quickly to the pandemic situation, implementing anti-pandemic and work support measures for employees, the company was able to overcome the downturn associated with the pandemic in 2020 with a profit in the following year. The final contribution of the thesis is a summary definition and differentiation of the measures introduced at the time of the pandemic by PORR a. s., into measures belonging to the group of crisis measures and innovative measures that can be taken by the construction company at the time of other, similar social situations, threatening the operation of the company.

The evolution of SARS-CoV-2 virus during the pandemic of COVID-19
Karban, Šimon ; Tachezy, Ruth (advisor) ; Pačes, Jan (referee)
Coronaviruses are animal and human viruses which, in the case of humans, cause respiratory diseases. The genome of coronaviruses is non-segmented and encodes several structural and several non-structural proteins. As their genome consists of single-stranded RNA in a positive sense, they encode RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. The origin of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is uncertain and may never be known. However, this thesis covers up-to-date knowledge and the arguments for the main theories on the emergence of this virus. The pandemic of disease COVID-19 caused by the SARS-CoV-2 had an enormous impact on the health and lives of people worldwide. The length and severity of the pandemic were caused by the characteristic of the virus, transmissibility and asymptomatic type of infection with severe symptoms in elderly and chronically ill individuals and the fast evolution of the virus after its appearance in humans. This thesis will describe important characteristics of the most important variants of the virus and changes which gave them a selection advantage. In the end, trends in the evolution of SARS-CoV-2 will be discussed. Keywords: SARS-CoV-2, Coronaviridae, variants, phylogeny, origin, evolution
Parliamentary representation in the Czech Republic: deputies and senators in a time of crisis of representative democracy and party government
Jágr, David ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Gjuričová, Adéla (referee) ; Kuta, Martin (referee)
The Czech party system underwent significant reconfiguration in the second decade of the 21st century. The presented research focuses on MPs (deputies) and senators navigating this dynamic environment, specifically examining their perception of the parliamentary mandate. The text describes the representatives' relationships with citizens, parties, and constituencies, and explores changes in these relationships from a long-term perspective. Special attention is given to legislators from new parliamentary groups, especially those who define themselves against the elites and the party government model. These representatives distinguish themselves by emphasising a direct connection with the people and the return of power from the elites to the people, suggesting a different understanding of their mandate. The core of the research covers the parliamentary election period from 2017 to 2021, when half of the Chamber of Deputies consisted of populist movements. Additionally, the research takes into account other political developments and previous studies on Czech parliamentary representatives and debates concerning the crisis of representative democracy. The upper chamber's environment is also examined in detail. The research also addresses the overlooked issue of politics as a profession. An added value...
Assessing the determinants of inflation rate in European countries
Wu, Wanru ; Holub, Tomáš (advisor) ; Dědek, Oldřich (referee)
This thesis assesses the determinants of inflation rate in European countries, including data from 2010 to 2022. The existing research didn't include data during the pandemic and war between Russia and Ukraine, two crises causing unexpected rises in the inflation rate. Using panel data in R studio, the results suggest that GDP per capita influences inflation the most, oil price also plays an important role, and the base interest rate and unemployment rate also influence the inflation rate. In addition, GDP per capita is a negatively related variable. The unemployment rate negatively affects the inflation rate. The change in oil price is positively related to the inflation rate, and it is the only positive variable.
Reporting of IDNES.cz and IHNED.cz during the first wave of COVID-19 in the Czech Republic
Kejhova, Natalie ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Miessler, Jan (referee)
Covid-19 did not only take over the lives of citizens in 2020, it also took over the media worldwide and the Czech Republic is no exception. Journalists always held the responsibility of portraying information to the public on major events. However during the first wave of the pandemic in particular journalists were seen as having a new sense of power which was that their words could influence the public's opinion on policies issued by the government like whether to wear a mask or not. The findings of this thesis showed that the publication Mladá fronta Dnes overall published articles that were informative and matter of fact whereas the publication Hospodářské noviny resulted in being more critical to the regulations that were issued by the government resulting in more of a discussion. Overall this thesis looked at how media frames are used by journalists in articles to portray particular ideological standpoints. Keywords Pandemic, Coivid-19, Media, Media Frames
The covid 19 outbreak as seen by foreign reporters of Czech radio
Klečka, Jiří ; Lovaš, Karol (advisor) ; Jirků, Jan (referee)
The covid pandemic has affected both mainstream domestic and foreign news coverage. This thesis examines how the spread of the disease affected the work of Czech Radio reporters. How did they have to adapt, what impact did the pandemic have on their personal lives or what were the possibilities of returning from foreign posts to the Czech Republic. The aim of the thesis is also to compare what topics the newsroom in Prague demanded from the reporters and what information was available to them in the country where they were stationed. I also briefly discuss the radio's response to the pandemic and how Radio as a public media outlet took care of its employees abroad. I then discuss the results of the interviews with the correspondents with their then manager. Before analysing the interviews with the correspondents, the thesis introduces them in short medallions and also charts important world and domestic events that were the main focus of the news coverage during the pandemic. The thesis also briefly defines the nature of the work of a foreign correspondent and the impact of the pandemic on the news coverage.
Active ageing in the times of covid. Experiences of the organizers of free time activities
Mejtská, Petra ; Hasmanová Marhánková, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Hrešanová, Ema (referee)
The topic of this thesis is the experiences of employees and volunteers working in centres and clubs for the elderly people that organize leisure activities for their clients. These organisations fulfil the idea of active ageing, which they define as healthy and correct way of ageing. Activity, participation and social contact are important aspects of this concept, which should lead to an improved quality of life in old age, physical and mental health and other benefits. However, during the spring of 2020, all activities of the centres (and other institutions) were interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Elderly people were advised to stay home and isolate themselves. This, however, brought additional risks for them. Loneliness in old age is a debated topic that was accentuated during the pandemic. This thesis uses qualitative methods, and my communication partners are volunteers, lecturers and managers of the senior centres and clubs who worked there throughout the pandemic and beyond. Using in-depth qualitative, semi-open-ended interviews, this thesis is interested in how they coped with the sudden closure during the pandemic and what strategies they adopted to protect their clients. The text seeks to approach their decision-making on the edge of two risks - loneliness and the possibility of...
