Integrating Environmental Education Topics into the EFL Class to Improve Students' Communication Skills
Brzá, Tereza ; Vallin, Petra (advisor) ; Hofmannová, Marie (referee)
This bachelor thesis aims to explore ways in which environmental topics might be integrated into the ESL classroom to improve students' communication skills. The theoretical part is concerned with teaching methods that combine content and language instruction, introduce relevant topics and create an authentic environment for language learning. It further analyses the content and main objectives of Environmental Education as a cross-curricular subject and identifies communication skills as an essential element of soft skills. The thesis examines their possible development through engaging students in discussions about environmental issues. The practical part consists of planning individual lessons whose content derives from topics of Environmental Education and emphasis is placed on communication activities. The lessons were thereafter implemented in an Elementary School ZŠ Drtinova and reflected on using Korthagen's ALACT model. Based on the teaching experience, the practical part contains recommendations for similar lessons. The thesis suggests that English language teachers are in a unique position to promote environmental awareness and improve students' language skills simultaneously.

Then the transcript of group conversations from electronic form to written was done by transcription. From the partial results of the MADI method, questionnaires and group interviews, case studies of five selected...
Teaching rhetorics on secondary school. Present state and future perspectives
Potůčková, Marie ; Chejnová, Pavla (advisor) ; Vlčková, Jana (referee)
This thesis deals with various approaches of secondary school teachers and students to the rhetoric and the teaching of communication. The main purpose of the thesis is to map how students see the quality of their own communicative skills and the quaility of communication classes and the attitude of teachers to including communication in their classes. Attention is also paid to the development of communication teaching methods. The survey was carried out at seven Prague secondary schools mainly by using questionnaires. Data were also collected during interviews and when attending classes. The survey suggests that both students and teachers consider the teaching of communication a necessary part of Czech language and literature lessons and have a responsible attitude to it. Students are more critical to their own speech than their teachers. They have quite a good knowledge of the theoretical basis of rhetoric and communication but they have problems applying the theory in practise. Teachers prefer professional, clear and attractive textbooks of communication. As for the future of the subject teachers are of the opinion that it should become an inseparable part of all subjects, i. e. of comprehensive education. KEY WORDS rhetoric, teaching of communication, communicative skills, speech, discussion

Authorial Acting as (Non)education towards a Self
Pártlová, Zuzana ; SUDA, Stanislav (advisor) ; MALANÍKOVÁ, Hana (referee)
This doctoral thesis explores the potential of authorial acting as a tool for open-ended self-education. It focuses on the properties and the process of acquiring psychosomatic capacity for presentation in front of an audience as a means of self-discovery and self-realization through play (Dialogical Acting with the Inner Partner) and other preparatory psychosomatic drama disciplines. The secondary subject of this thesis is the relevance of this capacity to teachers and educators. In the theoretical section, I present the essential terms and concepts as well as the basis of my research. I explain why I use the expression "(non)education towards a self” rather than "personal education” and how one's holistic and creative conditioning relates to the skills of a pedagogue or educator in the broadest sense of the word. The qualitative research section consists of three parts which correspond to three research projects. The first part explores the "personal trajectories" of students of the two-year “Creative Pedagogy-Pedagogical Condition” (CP-PC) study program. The exploration is based on written reflections and a two-day encounter devoted to discussion and creative work. The encounter involved practical workshops as well as talks with I. Vyskočil and E. Vyskočilová and student discussions. The aim was to explore the development of the individual psychosomatic “fitness" by means that go beyond written subjective reflections and offer live confrontations with oneself and others in workshops and discussions. The second part focuses on the issue of authenticity and the triple actor-viewer-assistant relation. Using simultaneous recording with two cameras and focus groups, we tried to analyze the moments of spontaneity during the experimentation and to identify the essential features of authentic expression. The themes that significantly emerged from the research were the theme of inner and outer spectator and of body resonance and joy as main characteristics of authentic presence. In the third section, I followed up on the findings of the previous sections in 16 semistructured interviews with students of the CP-PC program as well as regular and external students at the department. These interviews were analyzed using the method of open coding combining two perspectives: a broader, theme-focused perspective and a narrower, notional one. This research reveals the complexity of tacit learning processes which, in the context of play and psychosomatics, foster a personal evolution towards an original, creative personality, i.e. "becoming one's self”. Simultaneously, this research attempts to define the essential "virtues” of authentic acting and outlines the benefits of Vyskočil´s pedagogy for education of educators.

Komunikační dovednosti ve vybraných oborech středního odborného vzdělávání
Peňáz, Vít
The subject of the thesis are the communication skills of students of selected fields in secondary vocational education. Secondary vocational education is, for the purposes of the thesis, limited solely to 3-year vocational courses with an apprenticeship certificate. Only the following technical fields have been analysed: Electrician, Model Maker, Machinist, Toolmaker and Machine Tool Operator (Metals). The theoretical part of the thesis aimed to map the range of communication skills which are defined by the state in the national curricula of the individual fields. At the same time, the school curricula of the individual fields were mapped, and again, with the focus on communication skills. The method of targeted information gathering was used in the writing of the theoretical part of the thesis. The practical part of the thesis was defined by two objectives. The first objective was to find out, on the basis of a quantitative survey, whether the specified com-munication skills, set by the national curricula, or the school curricula, became part of the teaching during the study. The second objective was, again on the basis of the conducted quantitative survey, to find out whether the respondents would also recommend including the teaching of communication skills for practical purposes in the education. The results of the survey show that the specified communication skills have become part of the teaching. The respondents were also unanimously in favour of including the communication skills for practical purposes in the education.
