Environmental starting points of the philosophy of hope

The text explains the phenomenon of hope from a phenomenological point of view, i tis an explanation of hope and its understanding in the context of human live. We know hope from a Christian perspective, such as salvation salvation, forgiveness, hope for eternal life. In the postmodern age, human existence has changed and hope needs to be thought through in new contexts. The question arises as to what is really hope. Althought it does not seem important, understanding hope and distinguising it is a condition of well-being of the individual and society. Hope must not be an illusion or a mere daily hope of fulfilling our wishes. Hope is above all action, it is not surrender and resignation. True, transcendent hope is born in deep crisis, pain, abandonment, it comes to us in patience, in the act of acceptance, reconciliation. Hope is an awareness of the future in spite of reality. Hope is perseverance, humility and mystery. Hope is joy, it is a force that comes to us from an unidentifiable place, but it spreads everywhere. Hope also relates to the existence of the whole world, to the responsibility for maintaining the conditions of life on Earth, to the dignified and fully lived life of individuals. Phenomenon of homelessness in context of welfare services offer in Benešov city.

The aim of this diploma thesis is to familiarize with offer of welfare services for homeless people in Benešov City on the basis of theoretical knowledge and information about phenomenon of homelessness. Also to show the influence of social services offer on the life of homeless person, to call attention to other connections and importance of a form of social service help in a role of low-cost daily centre, doss-houses and field services for people without shelter. For research part of the thesis was chosen a qualitative research for its possibilities to examine some specific broadly defined phenomenon and to bring sufficient amount of information about it. Case study method was used. Results of the research part are summarized in the end. The effect of use of social services offer for homeless people in Benešov city on the quality of their lives is exposed. Discovered conclusions point out to importance of help and support which is offered through social services.

The building at 18, rue Bonaparte: The place of memory and its meaning for the Czechs living in Paris

Diploma thesis "The building at 18, rue Bonaparte: The place of memory and its meaning for the Czechs living in Paris" deals with the theme of everyday life of the Czechs in Paris which is connected with a place that presents a piece of Czech country inside of the historical Paris. This work tries to show the perception of this place on the basis of material, functional and symbolic meaning of this building. As well it treats the overhangs to the migration studies, memory studies and problems of identity. Constituent of the text is also theoretical embodiment of the concept of a place not only in the ethnology but also in others social and humanity sciences - mainly with the regard to the Pierre Nora's theory "places of memory" and Marc Augé's theory "anthropological places". Apart from the symbolical capital of the building at 18, rue Bonaparte which is important place of memory there is presented in the text also history of another places in France which is a part of collective memory of the compatriots up to now. The main goal of this work is to present how important role can play one concrete physical place with strong functional and symbolic meaning for the Czechs living outside of their homeland and how this place can contribute to the process of integration to the hosting society.

DOMOV (house/home/homeland) as a Czech concept (Questionnaire survey)

This bachelor's thesis is focused on exploring of home conceptualization by Czech native speakers of different ages (preschool children, students, adults). It aims to supplement information identified in the context of international comparative EUROJOS research - Linguistic and cultural picture of the world of Slavs and their neighbors. It's methodologically based on cognitive linguistics and etnolinguistics. It verifies the conceptualization of home based on my questionnaire which was inspired by ongoing research within the EUROJOS project. This survey will be modified; representatives of different age groups are assigned to it. Preschool children are included to this project too and their conceptualization is verified through drawings. In this bachelor's thesis the current results of my own empirical survey are compared with theoretical solutions.

The Odry region after World War II in life stories of its inhabitants

This Master's diploma thesis elaborates on the history of Odry region, particularly the period after World War II, when it underwent a significant transformation. The goal od the thesis is to do a thorough micro-historical research of the postwar history of the region with respect to the transformation of the formerly German areas into the reclaimed lands of the Czech nation. It is divided into several chapters. In the first chapter I evaluate the source base to the topic; I investigate various literature related to the transfer of the Germans and the frontier settlement (its regional provenance being taken into account), archival sources and narratives - memories of displaced Germans from the presently analyzed region and several examples of the recorded oral-history interviews. In other six chapters I elucidate the situation of the Odry region in particular periods: in 1938, during World War II, and in the era of the liberation, followed by the transfer of the German population and the process of a new habitation. The last chapter then discusses the postwar Odry region as a home both lost and obtained. Representation of the House in British Fiction (1906-2009). (E.M. Forster, John Galsworthy, Simon Mawer)

The diploma thesis focuses on diverse representations of the house in selected British novels since 1906. The novels have been chosen in reference to the importance assigned to houses in terms of plot, characters, and setting, each offering a unique vision of the house. A house is perceived as a home, as a possession or as a work of art. The novels by E.M. Forster, John Galsworthy and Simon Mawer are viewed through the prism of Phenomenology, namely the essays of Martin Heidegger, Jan Patočka and Anna Hogenová. This type of analysis provides an insight into the motivations of the individual characters, but also a deeper understanding of the function and role of the house in fiction as well as in reality.
