The thesis The media image of the Fair Trade concept in the Czech press examines media image of the Fair Trade business system in the most widely read newspapers Aha!, Blesk, Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny, Mladá fronta DNES, Právo and Sport. The aim is to find out whether newspapers report on Fair Trade in broader context and in which frames it is most likely presented. At the same time the thesis examines the extent to which newspapers inform about Fair Trade. There are two hypothesis formulated, one suggesting that the amount of articles referring about Fair trade has an increasing tendency and that articles do not address the issue in broader context. The answers to research questions and the validity of the hypotheses are examined through quantitative and qualitative content analysis based primarily on the framework theory. Deductive procedure using pre-formulated control questions is also used. The finding is that the newspapers most often present Fair Trade in economics frame followed by conflict frame and human impact frame. Hronová, Markéta ; Soukeník, Štěpán (advisor) ; Wolák, Radim (referee)
This Master's thesis examines the sharing of articles of printed newspapers - Hospodářské noviny and Mladá fronta DNES - on their respective websites. Firstly, research of scientific papers presents how foreign newpapers deal with digitalization and which models of sharing and paid content they apply. Using quantitative analysis this thesis examines, which of the two newspapers shares more free articles on-line (Mladá Fronta DNES on the server iDNES.cz and Hospodářské noviny on iHNed.cz and Aktuálně.cz). The quantitative analysis compares the content of the National news section in January 2015 and January 2016, so it also observes the development of the respective article-sharing policies over time. The hypothesis is that Hospodářské noviny share more free articles than Mladá fronta DNES. The reason is that Hospodářské noviny have a single editorial office for their printed and online articles. More details regarding the policies of paid content are provided through semi-structured interviews with representatives of the respective publishing houses. This Master's thesis also presents the advantages and disadvantages of single and separate editorial offices (newsrooms for printed and online articles), describes the processes of article- sharing, illustrates business models that the publishing...
Media presentment of the president Vaclav Klaus`s term on pages of Lidové noviny and Hospodářské noviny
Křapka, David ; Osvaldová, Barbora (advisor) ; Novotný, David Jan (referee)
The main goal of my thesis will be to find, how two significant dailies - Hospodářské noviny and Lidové noviny, reported about Václav Klaus's whole term. The thesis is based on the media theory like theory of gatekeeping or theory of agenda-setting and on the biography of Václav Klaus. There is a system of hypotheses that are asking questions which are needed for the study of stereotypes, for the following of the periodicity of titles with president's name on them, or for the meaning of the specific articles. For that I will be using Newton Media database. On the end of the thesis I should find out whether there is media bias towards Václav Klaus in his term. And I also hope that I would be able to evaluate objectivity of these studied dailies.
