Turek, Jan ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kochnowski, Roman (referee)
The diploma thesis is focused on the Czech and Polish environmental policy. The aim of the thesis is to reflect internal environmental policy from the point of view of the organization Greenpeace which is a non-governmental environmental organization. The thesis analyses how the Czech and Polish branches of the organization reflect the environmental issues of both national policies. The theses also analyses whether the branches consider the topics of environmental issues in the current policy to be sufficient and what activities they do to draw attention to possible shortcomings in environmental policy. In the opening chapters, the thesis is focused on the similarities and differences in the Czech and Polish environmental policy. There is also written whether the policies deal with global or local issues, or whether they reflect the present-day environmental topics. The thesis also mentions the Czech and Polish environmental movement, its establishment and development in the 80s and 90s in the 20th century. The thesis is mainly focused on the current period (since the year 2017) - it's the period of the government of Andrej Babiš and Mateusz Morawiecki. Analysis of the Commitment to Development Index
Syrovátka, Miroslav ; Hák, Tomáš (advisor) ; Nováček, Pavel (referee) ; Šauer, Petr (referee)
Analysis of the Commitment to Development Index Miroslav Syrovátka ABSTRACT The Commitment to Development Index aims to measure the effects of wide range of rich countries' policies that support or limit development prospects of poor countries. These policies are grouped into seven components of the index. The thesis analyzes and assesses the methodology of the index construction with the main focus on its environmental component. It is argued that although the environmental component is a legitimate part of the concept behind the index, the difficulties of its implementation limit its information value. This is due to the specific shortcomings of component indicators and the necessity to combine environmental policy indicators with indicators of exploitation of global environmental resources. The scores of Visegrad countries and correlation analysis show the specificity of the environmental component within the whole index and indirectly support the conclusions about its reduced information value. The thesis discusses the options for modification, both at the level of composite index construction and presentation, and at the level of individual indicators of the environmental component.
Europeanisation of environmental policy in the Netherlands
Cimalová, Kateřina ; Karlas, Jan (advisor) ; Kučerová, Irah (referee)
Integration in the European Union (EU) in terms of the legal as well as economic spheres has grown in depth, scope and speed since its establishment. The EU has significantly affected various fields of policies within its member states, including the environment. This is understood as the 'Europeanisation process'. The Netherlands, considered one of the pioneering countries to establish environmental measures, has approximately 80% of its legislation in the environmental field derived from European legislation. The thesis seeks to answer how Dutch environmental policy has been affected by the EU over the past twenty years. The implementation process of three environmental directives is analysed concerning water, biodiversity and air, to understand this process. The concept of Europeanisation and the related theory of goodness of fit is applied to argue that the implementation process of European environmental directives in the Netherlands is effective if there are no major adjustments necessary in the national setting, i.e. there is no policy or institutional misfit between domestic and European legislation, and no veto players impede the process. On the other hand, the implementation process is significantly more complicated if the directive needs extensive transformations. It is concluded that...

Environmental policy of the European Union and its impact on the environmental policy of the Slovak Republic
Kozáková, Tamara ; Karlas, Jan (advisor) ; Knutelská, Viera (referee)
This diploma thesis entitled "Environmental policy of the European Union and its impact on the environmental policy of the Slovak Republic" targets the environmental policy of these two entities, focusing on a specific area, namely waste management. Despite the fact that environmental policy did not belong to the original agenda of the European Union during its creation, today, due to the gradual development characterized in the first part of the work, the EU is a prominent player in this field. In other parts of the work we describe how Slovakia has gradually undergone a progressive change, ie Europeanization, through its involvement in EU policies. Based on the membership of the Slovak Republic in the European Union since 2004, the Slovak Republic has obligations and commitments, which shows the significant influence of the European Union, and thus the existing environmental policies of the Member States are no longer politically or legally separated from EU environmental policy. In addition to the goal of providing a comprehensive overview of the development of environmental policy of the both European Union and the Slovak Republic since its formation, the main goal is to analyze the implementation of waste management in the form of Framework Directive 2008/98 / EC on waste. This goal is based...
Transposition of environmental directives into the Czech legal order and its problematic aspects
Vinařská, Lucie ; Váška, Jan (advisor) ; Černovská, Eliška (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the transposition of environmental directives into the legal order of the Czech Republic. It describes in detail the process of transferring the law into national legislation and, at the same time, it examines the problems that arise here. The aim of this thesis is to clarify the most fundamental issues that occur when transposing environmental directives based on literature and practice. The causes of inappropriate transposition are selected from relevant literature and subsequently examined in case studies. These case studies concern six directives from two areas of environmental law. Chemical pollution area with worse overall transposition results and waste management with better results. Directives from the European Commission's database, which have gone furthest in infringement procedures, have been selected for the investigation. Using both national and European documents, both legislative and non-legislative, the process of transposing individual directives has been described. Based on the research, it has been found that the waste directives have been unduly transposed because of incorrect or incomplete transposition measures, non-communication, on the other hand, dominated the chemicals directives. The research also confirmed the main reasons for problems...

Environmental topics in nation branding: the case of Slovenia
Havlíčková, Marta ; Tomalová, Eliška (advisor) ; Váška, Jan (referee)
This thesis focuses on the approach of Slovenia to the promotion of the state abroad. It is a small country with two million inhabitants, suffering from poor visibility and being confused with Slovakia. Slovenia has decided to change this by creating a national brand. Positive perception of a country contributes to economic development of the state. It is also an ideal means by which small states can maximise their influence in the international arena. The thesis describes the gradual development of the national brand and its implementation. The thesis also describes the institutional background, the work being coordinated by the Government Office for Communication. Slovenia has succeeded in creating the brand of a green country with a quality of life for all. For a national brand to be successful, it must be based on real national priorities. In the case of Slovenia, ecology is also part of its domestic and foreign policy priorities. The monitored indicators show that Slovenia's environmental performance varies in different areas. In some areas Slovenia is a leader in the EU, in others, for example in transport, its performance is below average. The work concludes that the label is based on real foundations because some part of environmental policy is effective.
Environmental policy instruments in the Czech Republic
Bavšenkov, Sabina ; Stejskal, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Franková, Martina (referee)
Environmental policy instruments in the Czech Republic This thesis deals with environmental policy instruments and related issues. In the introduction I analyze in general what the environment is and what role it plays in our life and its importance for life, then also by short historical excursion and also by the very definition of what is the environment and also the environmental policy itself. A large part is occupied by environmental policy actors that are an integral part of this area, as it would not be possible to carry out environmental policy without them. I divide them into state and non-state, among which the main difference is especially in volunteering. I describe their activities and examples of using individual tools in their performance. An important part is also an insight into the international area in the field of international environmental conferences as well as the European Union action plans. This section presents a brief overview of the development of international conferences on environment and sustainable development. Then, in the European Union, I am analyzing the last seventh action program in detail. Last but not least, it is also the State Environmental Policy of the Czech Republic as an important strategic document defining the further direction of the development of...
