Methods and Concepts of Teaching Geology at the Selected Primary Schools at the Ústí nad Labem Region

This MSc. thesis analyzes the attitude of 9th grade students and their teachers to geology, which is taught at lower secondary schools most often in the course of natural history. The thesis examines the connection between the teacher's interest in the subject and teaching forms, difficulty level of the subject and the student's interest in the subject. The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes the pedagogical terminology, concepts of the teaching, discusses special aspects of the teacher personality and specifics of geology as a scientific field of the subject in the education system. The research part is dealt with the description of the questionnaire and its evaluation, further it summarizes and discusses the results of the questionnaire survey among 202 students and 21 teachers from 10 elementary schools in the Ústí nad Labem Region. The questionnaire survey shows that teachers and students consider geology an important subject in terms of general education and possible use in practical life. It has also found that students do not take in geology as an interesting subject, but thanks to the creative teaching approach and using of variable methods by their teachers the geology has become acceptable for them. Migration as a theme of regional elections in 2016

This diploma thesis aims on the migration as one of topics relevant in the regional election in 2016. This topic became resonating in Czech environment and appeared to be a theme for several political subjects across whole political spectrum. The author of this thesis focuses on four regions: South-Moravian and Moravian-Silesian regions, Plzeň region and Ústí region. In respect of these territorial units the author aims on topic of migration as itself, considering not only election 2016 but also the 2012 poll, in order to clarify if the migration topic is entirely new or if it has already shown up in the Czech political environment in previous elections. The author aims on the first and second order election problematics in the thesis and also analysis the role of parties' centers and periphery in the regional election of the years 2016 and 2012 in the territorial units mentioned above respectively. The author supports the research with a survey. The thesis consists of two parts. Analysis of Employment and Unmployment in Ústí nad Labem Region compared to the Czech Republic in 2007 - 2015

The thesis deals with the issue of employment and unemployment, including its socio- economic aspects in the Ústí nad Labem region compared to the Czech Republic between years 2007 and 2015. The theoretical part describes the nature of unemployment (breakdowns, causes, impacts, unemployment solution) including the impact of macroeconomic indicators, fiscal and monetary policies, with particular respect to active employment policy. The practical part includes the analysis of the Ústí nad Labem Region itself and its employment and unemployment, taking into account the benchmark of the Czech Republic with a polemic on the effectiveness of employment policy and its settings. The thesis implements the SWOT analysis of the Ústí nad Labem Region, which describes weaknesses and strengths and identifies individual opportunities and threats. The data were gained from the Czech Statistical Office and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

Regional differentiation in the population development of Ústecký Region: historic-geographic analysis

This master´s thesis is focused on analysis of regional differentiation of population development in Ústecký Region. The analysis is divided into three stages of human society evolution, such as pre-industrial, industrial and post-industrial. Beside these stages, the thesis also deals with a historical context of given period and at the same time, deals with comparison of this phenomena with the rest of the Czech. The population in Ústecký Region was influenced by factors, as natural and socioeconomic determinants. The thesis emphasises phenomena connected to railways, hierarchical arrangements of residences and their administrative functions. Intensity of these three facts had been examined on a sample of 119 villages. After the analysis, the evaluation of dynamics of the population development follows; this time it is viewed from the perspective of microregions. The synthetic part follows the analysis and deals with categorization of those microregions, it generalises population´s trends and it predicates its development. The final part then confirms hypothesis given in the beginning of the thesis.

Archaeology and tourism in Ústí nad Labem region

This thesis deals with archaeological tourism in the Ústí nad Labem region. Based on scientific literature, the general issues of archeology and tourism are analyzed. The result of this analysis points to the fact, that there are a lot of archaeological tourist destinations in this region. The most attractive ones are presented in this thesis in the form of a tour guide intended for the general public. An opinion poll was coducted as part of the thesis. Based on the poll we can assume that the general awareness of archeology and archaeological tourist destinations in the Ústí region is at an average level. It is safe to say that the public attitude towards archeology is generally positive. Czech castles are especially popular among the archaeological tourist destinations. The most convenient public presentation of archaeological sites is by using information boards with brief descriptions and vivid illustrations. The vast majority of interviewees indicated that they would welcome a higher degree of presentation of historical monuments in the Ústí nad Labem region - for example through a dedicated website. Education opportunities for older adults in the region of Ústí

5 Summary This thesis presents education opportunities for older adults. First part of the thesis is focused on an old age characteristic and all changes that this period of life brings, describes position of older adults in the society and elderly education specifics. Final chapter of this part of the thesis is dedicated to the list of institutions, where older adults can be educated. The thesis is written in a sense of comparison of scholarly sources from both Czech and foreign authors. The second part of this thesis presents empirical study, which was created by quantitative questionnaire survey. Main goal of this part is to find out, which institutions in Region of Ústí, that provides education for older adults, are well known for the respondents. First to the eighth grade grammar school and its layout in the education system of Ústecký region

The object of this thesis is a thorough insight into issues of six(eight)- year Grammar schools, its brief history and legislative framework they exist in. The main goal of this dissertation is a particular quantitative expression of a rate of representation of six(eight)-year Grammar schools in educational system of Ustecky region and its comparison with the basic strategic documents of the Czech and regional education. The thesis also compares the situation in the whole Czech Republic with other regions. On the basis of this comparison the author of the thesis attempts to determine if the strategy of Ustecky region education corresponds with conceptual intentions of the government and the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic. The primary method is a collection of data from conceptual documents as well as annual reports of the schools in order to make the quantitative conclusion as precise as possible. The goal of this thesis in its practical part is to find out the opinions of headmasters of particular primary and secondary schools of Ustecky region about the above mentioned problems from both qualitative and quantitative point of view through the means of a questionnaire.
