Comparison of selected traits at conspecific plants in disturbed and stressed environments localized within industrial waste deposits and their surroundings in landscape
Glier, Adam ; Kovář, Pavel (advisor) ; Štefánek, Michal (referee)
This study is oriented on the assessment of selected traits at conspecific plant which spontaneously colonize interior space within abandoned industrial area and/or deposits, and those ones occurred in adjacent vicinity. The work continues in previous studies concentrated on abandoned mine tailing containments where some important outputs consist of differences in plant adaptive strategies, growth rate, phenology, body size, ways of dispersal, ecophysiological or genetic parameters (Bryndová et Kovář 2004, Mrázek 2004, Zákravský et al. 2004, Jarolímová 2004, Kovář et al. 2004, Jiráčková et Dostál 2004, Kovář et Herben 2004, Dostál et Kovář 2013, Štefánek 2015, Urbanová et al. 2017). A part of the study includes the significance of small and large genomes at both types of habitats within defined phylogenetic framework. In other words - testing of the hypothesis: There is functional significance of small versus large genomes of plant species by comparing their occurrence in unreclaimed toxic deposits (landscape islands) with their populations from neighbouring habitats (large scale level). Key words unreclaimed industrial deposits in landscape, abandoned mine tailings, genome size, flow cytometry, conspecific taxons, plant traits, colonization, succession, disturbance, stress, restoration ecology,...

Based on this analysis, the thesis describes typical themes and language tools used by Patrick Chamoiseau. The thesis also deals with oral literature and culture of Martinique and the current problems of society are also discussed through a reflection of another work by Patrick Chamoiseuau.
Settlement of the landscape with European beaver (Castor fiber) in relation to anthropogenic influences
Mikulka, O. ; Patočka, Z. ; Drimaj, J. ; Kamler, J. ; Plhal, R. ; Homolka, Miloslav
The European beaver (Castor fiber) is a protected species in the Czech Republic that has spread to the whole of Moravia. Now, it is a common species whose competitor is only human. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of human activity, especially tourism or transport, on the settlement of the landscape by the European Beaver. The area of the protected landscape area Litovelske Pomoravi was chosen to evaluate the settlement of the landscape by the beaver, where the beaver forms a stable population for a long time and the frequented cycling routes, hiking trails and the area are frequently visited by natural floodplain forests. The beaver settlement data were collected by means of the winter monitoring of residential stamps using the GPS system in 2017. Data on the location of cycle routes, hiking trails, human settlements and infrastructure were obtained from available GIS layers. Settlement of European beaver was evaluated in relation to the distance and intensity of interference by tourist activities, traffic or buildings. There were 200 km of watercourses in the monitored area. The inhabited beaver was 39% of the length. The beaver avoided human settlements, preferring the natural environment. The influence of tourism on the beaver settlement has not been proven.
The displacement of the German population from the Šternberk area and its impact on the regional economy
Zajíc, Marek ; Šafařík, Petr (advisor) ; Nigrin, Tomáš (referee)
Abstract/Annotation The theme of this bachelor thesis is the influence of the displacement of German population from Šternberk on the local economy after 1945. The thesis deals with the state of Šternberk's economy before displacement and its development after the above mentioned year. The thesis contains statistical data on the original composition of the population and the number of trades and crafts. Furthermore, the largest employers in the city and the region are introduced. It is also stated in the individual chapters that the transformation of economy was not an exclusive issue in 1945, but was gradually taking place in different sectors. The sources I have worked with when writing the text prove that the character of the Šternberk region has been completely different from the present day for several decades. Through archival materials currently stored in Olomouc, it is possible to create a comprehensive picture of how the displacement of Šternberk Germans took place at the end of World War II. It is also evident from some of the selected sources that Šternberk and the North Moravian region were subsequently settled also by repatriates. The aim of this work is to acquaint the public with the preserved sources that provide insight into what was then happening in the North Moravian region.
Geographical parthenogenesis: evolutionary and ecological significance of apomictic reproduction in vascular plants
Hartmann, Matthias ; Mráz, Patrik (advisor) ; Dobeš, Christoph (referee) ; Krahulec, František (referee)
It has been suggested that polyploidization affects the ecological niche of a species, possibly ultimately leading to a shift in the distribution of the species, such as in geographical parthenogenesis. The phenomenon describes the wider distribution and shift of asexuals towards higher altitudes, northern latitudes and more extreme habitats when compared with their closely related sexual relatives. Several hypotheses have been proposed to explain such patterns with lacking empirical evidence because investigations rather focused on single hypotheses, which were rather tested several times independently on multiple organisms than vice versa. Therefore, the present study aimed to tackle the phenomenon of geographical parthenogenesis from multiple angles, i.e. testing several hypotheses simultaneously using Hieracium alpinum as a model system. In the arcto-alpine Asteraceae H. alpinum sexually reproducing diploid individuals occur in a small isolated area in the Eastern and Southern Carpathians, while apomictically reproducing, i.e. asexual reproduction via seeds, triploid plants occupy the remaining and much larger part of the range from the Balkans to the arctic parts of Europe. This implies that asexual triploids have had some fitness / colonization advantage(s), leading to a replacement of sexual diploids...

Economic and social consequences of the trasnfer of Germans on the area of South Bohemia in years 1945-1955
Jiřík, Jan ; Fabianková, Klára (advisor) ; Chalupecký, Petr (referee)
Transfer of the Germans is the largest, human caused migration process in history of Czech Republic. This bachelor thesis examines economic and social consequences of the transfer, during the years 1945-1955, with the focus on the South Bohemia. The aim of this work is to concretize and evaluate social and economic consequences. Theoretical part of this work describes Czech-German cohabitation from the age of The First Republic, including approval, process and quantification of the transfer that ended it. Analytical part describes the social consequences on the examples of colonizing the chosen villages economic consequences are described by the case study of chosen concerns. Colonization objective was, during years 1945-1955, fulfilled in the district towns and Větřní, not in the smaller villages near the border. The impact on the studied companies was the reduction of the number of employees, but the consequences had different outcomes, because of the different solutions provided.
From monasteries to men. The significance of monastic architecture and its art in the New Spain of 16th century
Brenišínová, Monika ; Křížová, Markéta (advisor) ; Štěpánek, Pavel (referee) ; Marek, Pavel (referee)
In my dissertation, I inquire into the phenomenon of monastic architecture and its plastic decoration in 16th century New Spain. The aim of this work is to present Mexican monasteries and their artistic significance. In my analysis, I build on the interpretation of monastic architecture from the perspective of early colonial society, I also reflect on the individual level, assessing its impact on the conquest and colonization of America. The methodology of this research project combines analysis of historical (e.g. study of historical sources) and art historical processes (iconological analysis of E. Panofsky) with analysis of anthropological concepts (e.g. rituals of transition of A. van Gennep, thick description of Cl. Geertz, concepts of liminality, structure and communitas of V. Turner). During my PhD studies, I conducted a field trip in Central Mexico (2013), supported by a grant from the Government of Mexico. I visited and documented one hundred and sixteen monasteries and the photographic documentation is the main empirical source of my analysis which further draws from the study of historical sources and academic literature. My research primarily focuses on three aspects: 1. the monastic architecture and art; 2. the role of the monastery in the process of European conquest and colonization...
Selected aspects of US foreign policy during period of decolonization
Urbánek, Daniel ; Romancov, Michael (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
This bachelor thesis is focused on position of the United States of America towards the process of decolonization and its purpose is to identify if American steps in this context were guided by idealistic or realistic motives. After a short definition of these two paradigms and description of the mechanism of American foreign policy the thesis introduces traditions affecting that policy, mostly focusing on the tradition of isolationism. Main part of the thesis is divided into two segments - in the first one, four political programs concerning the United States are analyzed, sources being the Monroe Doctrine, the Fourteen Points of President Wilson, the Atlantic Charter and the UN Charter. In this part, contribution of these programs to the process of decolonization is emphasized together with the identification of idealistic or realistic characteristics. The second segment offers a case study focused on the Suez Crisis - the moment, when the United States practically intervened against European colonial powers. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
