Occupational Stress

The thesis deals with load, stress and related questions of the working life. Work-related stress brings numerous difficulties not only to affected individuals, but as a result also to organizations. The thesis follows symptoms, impacts, somatic and mental aspects of stress, its types and also types of stressors, which cause this problem. It is concentrated on workload as a specific area of work-related stress, individual resistance to the load, factors of workload and work-related stress and also on coping with problematic situations. The specific topic related to the stress is burnout syndrome. The thesis describes its formation and development, its causes, symptoms in three main levels - mental, physical and level of social relations and then influence of important factors such as personality and work conditions. It is also focused on professions endangered by burnout syndrome and its prevention. TITLE The Burnout Syndrome in Teachers' Work ABSTRACT The burnout syndrome represents a serious problem affecting the quality of the life of the stricken persons as well as their efficiency. The notion burnout is defined here. This bachelor thesis specifies the main theoretical sources of burnout, the evolution and the formation of its characteristics. It brings the summary of the circumstances which can facilitate or limit the origin and development of burnout. The burnout syndrome affects members of helping professions mainly. The concept of the helping professions is defined here. The teaching profession is one of the helping professions. The teaching profession is one of the demanding professions. There are the various influences disturbing the work of teachers which affect the overall personal performance and professional satisfaction. This bachelor thesis reports physical and psychical load in teacher work. Situations that can be the source of the emotional exhaustion for teachers are mentioned. Methods of the Mental Hygiene for Teachers of Special Schools in the Czech Republic Abstract This Bachelor's Thesis is the theoretical study, including illustrative transcripts of interviews with educators from a selected special school. It contains the description of main terms like mental hygiene, stress and burn-out syndrome in a context of pedagogical profession. It solves the mental strain of educators which is typical for the working environment at a school. There are presented methods of mental hygiene appropriate for special school's teachers. In the thesis there is also presented dividing of these methods and their short descriptions. Further there is a summary of how methods of mental hygiene are integrated for educators in the legislation of the Czech Republic. The last part contains questions and transcripts of interviews. Burnout

This Thesis deals with the issue of the burnout syndrome and with relationship between burnout syndrome and social support. The aim of this work is based on knowledge from the literature and from experience of clinical psychiatrists to assess the significance of social support for individuals suffering from the burnout syndrome. In the Thesis, there are first defined terms burnout syndrome and social support. Consequently, there are presented the most important knowledge of social support, its components, functions and impact on the individual. Then, the Thesis identifies the main cause of burnout - the stress. It defines its main levels as well as stimuli that cause it, discusses the symptoms of stress, follows its development and consequences and analyzes the ways to cope with the burnout syndrome. Furthermore, the Thesis describes the development of burnout, characterizes the symptoms and personal dispositions that facilitate its formation and development. The Thesis focuses on professions that are vulnerable to formation and development of the burnout syndrome and contains a case report of an individual who has recently suffered by the burnout syndrome. Telephone Crisis Intervention (Specific Aspects of working at Helpline)

The thesis explains the concept of crisis, crisis intervention and telephone crisis intervention, its procedures and techniques. It's focused on history of Helplines not only in Czech Republic but also in the world. It looks closely at the format and principles involved in Helpline call management. The thesis identifies requirements that are imposed on trained specialists and presents some of the institutions that organize training in telephone crisis intervention. Not only Czech but also international organizations focusing on telephone crisis interventions are introduced. A telephone counselors might be at risk for so-cold "burnout syndrome", therefore, the thesis includes chapters devoted to supervision practice and mental hygiene. Finally, the specific Helpline calls are listed.
Physical and psychological stress for nurses in intensive care

A profession as a nurse is one of the most responsible and the most hazardous jobs. According to the statistic data a discipline of health care has the great number of "occupational diseases" cases and they are caused by overdone physical load and mental stress. The thesis targets are the assessments of the load related to the type of work, the awareness of nurses about the prevention against the undue physical load and the mental stress, the motivation and the satisfaction for the nurses at their work. The important parts are the options for a prevention and a reduction of the load and the methods of relaxation and rest. I used two types of questionnaires for my research, the first one was non standard which was focused on the individual targets and the other one was the standard Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire focused on finding a degree of burnout in individual cases. The research was carried out in General University Hospital and in Thomayer University Hospital in Prague. There were compared two departments- a department of internal medicine and a department of surgery in intensive care. Burnout syndrome - diagnostic possibilities (comparative study)

The theoretical part deals with key issues of burnout - a definition, phase of syndrome, diagnostic classification, prevention, and mainly deals with the description of the methods by which the level of burnout is detected. Now probably the most common diagnostic tools are the MBI (Maslach Burnout Inventory) and its derivatives (eg. MBI-General Survey), but there are many other methods, such as developed by Israeli and European psychologists (BoTeLis, OLBI, CBI, MBS, etc.). The goal is to assemble a relatively complete overview of these diagnostic tools.In the empirical part, is to verify the psychometric properties of Czech version of the selected methods on a set of population, describe and analyze their characteristics.
