Children's Library in kindergartens: possibilities, limits and challenges

My dissertation comes out of claim that the exploitation of library for children in kindergarten isn't systematically processed. But, it is apparent, acording international research (PIRLS, PISA), that the existence of library for children has positive influence to the development of reading literacy. The objective of my dissertation was the charting of the role of libraries for children in kindergarten. The dissertation were finding out how the library for children are used in kindergartens. What we need to build up to the functional library was the next topic of my dissertation. Both main topics were examinated in qualitative research. I used the design of case studying. I closely charted three cases of kindergarten where the library for children is used. It is needed to add relevant literature, interactive books and attractive books (inside and ouside). This way brings perfect and full using of library. Apart of this, it is the same with the appearence of the library. It is essential to captivate with attractive and nice appearence by children and adults too. Working with Jiří Stránský's book Tales for little Clara in the kindergarten

The thesis deals with the possibilities of developing emergent literacy, especially story comprehension, with preschool children using selected methods of critical thinking. The theoretical part is devoted to the ways of developing passion for reading and reading literacy in preschool education, it pursues the possibilities of using some of the methods of the RWCT programme (Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking) in working with books in the educational process of the kindergarten. It further describes the development of chidren of preschool age and reading strategies that can already be cultivated at this age. The practical part describes the project Working with Jiří Stránský's book Tales for little Clara that is based on didactic application of its texts intended for preschoolers. The project makes use of selected methods of the RWCT programme. Research using the method of structured interview finds out how methods of critical thinking can influence story comprehension among five-year-old children. It evaluates and interprets the findings from the beginning and the end of the project implementation, compares the determined levels of story comprehension in a group of girls and in a group of boys. Workshop reading in kindergarten to support the development of pre-literacy

The thesis Reading Workshop in Kindergarten as a support for the development of reading literacy deals in the theoretical part with the characteristics of pre-school children and their capabilities. It further investigates the methods that could be used for and are essential for the development of reading literacy in the pre-school age and the role of the family in this respect. The theoretical part is concluded with the introduction of the scheme Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking mentioning its basic resources. It shows that the reading workshop methods are very efficient for the active learning of children. The practical part describes 7 reading workshops that have been implemented in a typical kindergarten and this is supplemented with detailed comments. The empirical part investigates the family environment of children and, as based on parents' observations, it evaluates the contribution of reading workshops to the development of reading literacy of pre- school children. Reading workshops proved to be beneficial especially in terms of the growing interest of children in reading and also in terms of children's creativity development. The theme of Christmas mediated in kindergarten through the work with a book

This bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of Christmas mediated to children in kindergarten through work with a book. The theoretical part is focused on explaining the terminology, namely the concepts of reading, reading literacy, and reading pre-literacy. The following chapters reflect the areas that need to be developed in children, so that they can read well, with understanding and with joy in the future; the chapters reveal the influence that fairy tales have on preschool children and how emotional intelligence can be developed with reading pre-literacy. As kindergartens must follow the Framework Education Programme for Preschool Education, one of the chapters is also devoted to the analysis of this document in connection with the topic of this thesis. Since the development of the reading pre-literacy is built through reading strategies and RWCT methods, they are discussed in the theoretical part. Also, the lessons presented in the practical part used the reading strategies and the RWCT methods. The theoretical part concludes with a chapter about annotations of selected quality children's books on the Christmas topic. "Home" from the point of view of kindergarten teachers and preschool children and the mediations of this topic to children in kindergarten through books

This diploma thesis deals with the mediation of the topic of home and its forms to children in kindergarten by the method of working with a book. The aim of this work is to select suitable books that offer different forms of home, whether in traditional or alternative form, and to create methodological material for them that would help children understand that each home is different. Based on this methodological material, verify the lessons by three selected teachers and assess according to the reflection whether this material is suitable as a methodology for the topic. The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes the various forms of home and shows the location of this topic in the Framework Educational Program for Preschool Education. Furthermore, the theoretical part deals with the characteristics of preschool children, mainly in terms of social and emotional development, literature for preschool children and methods of working with the book, which are also used in the practical part.
